Thursday never got momentum. He sang it at their last concert at Northwestern after recording it few weeks before he died. I truly believe it would've been a number 1. Still is in my book.
He was on the verge of becoming America's most important singer-songwriter, when he died, so much so that he had the managers of other acts such as James Taylor, worried.
Jim was just a hardworking guy, who had finally worked hard enough.
So glad I learned to play this tune. love the progression.It's country /bluegrass and folk all in one . But that guitar of Maury's makes it GREAT just like Jim's voice.

WHO could ever give a Thumbs Down to Jim Croce? The guy wrote some of the greatest music and lyrics...EVER!! Any one who grew up at that time can easily pick half a dozen songs (or more) they can relate to!
I grew up in early 90's.. Even i can pick lot of his songs that i can relate to!
They only gave it a Thumbs Down because it is on offer, without any effort on their part!

Grew up in my teens in the early 70,s with jims music. Some memories he revives hurt real bad but my life has been a thousand time richer for hearing his music.

You have to ask: How the hell could Jim write with such understanding of life (looking backwards - song's perspective) at age 28/29 when the song was written?! Amazing ability to have absorbed life experiences he had heard through other people and then translate that into meaningful lyrics. He would of gone on to be one of the best artists of the 1970's and perhaps beyond.

the way i understand, it was the last song he recorded, then he died on a thursday so they changed the name of the song to thusday.

Count Basie recorded the song "Thursday" way back in 1939. Songwriters: DOROTHY SACHS, IRVIN GRAHAM, LOUIS HABER. "Thursday" was the original title. Have no idea why the title but I am sure the answer is somewhere in cyberspace. Doubt if any of the songwriters are still alive, but ya never know.
@Rick Nehls jim did not write this song and it was not recorded before jim did it.His good friend Joe saulvioulo wrote it and jim surprised him by recording it.
This is actually an amazing poem - the lyrical quality is just another amazing layer.
