Croce, Jim - Thursday Lyrics

Well it started out just like a dream
And like a dream I knew that what we had,
Would have to end
Cuz I was lookin' for a,
Lifetime lover and,
You were lookin' for a friend
Someone to be there
After all your night time lovers had gone,
The way they came
Someone who knew the way
And helped to play your daytime game
It's not the same

Well I started out pretending that I'd,
Come to mean enough to you to make,
You want to change
Then I came to realize that
There was just too much of you you'd have,
To rearrange
And I couldn't bear to wait around
For all your night time lovers to go,
The way they came
And it came to hurt too much for me
To have to play your daytime games
No one's to blame

Well it started out just like a dream
And like a dream I knew that what we had,
Would have to end
Cuz I was lookin' for a,
Lifetime lover and,
You were lookin' for a friend
I was lookin' for a,
Lifetime lover and,
You were lookin' for a friend

  4. M.... A....

    The best ever.

  5. J.... R....

Thursday never got momentum. He sang it at their last concert at Northwestern after recording it few weeks before he died. I truly believe it would've been a number 1. Still is in my book.

  6. R.... M....

He was on the verge of becoming America's most important singer-songwriter, when he died, so much so that he had the managers of other acts such as James Taylor, worried.

  7. B.... ....

Jim was just a hardworking guy, who had finally worked hard enough.

  8. K.... C....

So glad I learned to play this tune. love the progression. It's country /bluegrass and folk all in one . But that guitar of Maury's makes it GREAT just like Jim's voice.

    K.... C....

I can find anything on how to play it.

  9. T.... N....

good thing he didnt named this friday

    T.... N....

WHO could ever give a Thumbs Down to Jim Croce? The guy wrote some of the greatest music and lyrics...EVER!! Any one who grew up at that time can easily pick half a dozen songs (or more) they can relate to!

    T.... C....

I grew up in early 90's.. Even i can pick lot of his songs that i can relate to!

    T.... C....

They only gave it a Thumbs Down because it is on offer, without any effort on their part!

    T.... C....

    T Clodfelter Absolutely right!

    T.... C....

    More is right!0

    T.... C....

Grew up in my teens in the early 70,s with jims music. Some memories he revives hurt real bad but my life has been a thousand time richer for hearing his music.

  14. P.... n....

Great songwriter. He and Maury Muelheisen made some great music! Does anyone know where to find the guitar tab for this Jim Croce song, "Thursday"?

    P.... n....

    It's G , F , G7

  15. L.... L....

Worst birthday ever -- the day he died. I love him and miss him.

    L.... L....

Lisa L my dad was born the day he died that’s why he always listens to him and that love for Croce trickled down to me and it sucks cause none of my friends can appreciate this music

    L.... L....

HI Brian, Sept. 20/73 was my 16th birthday. I had been listening to an album of Jim's for weeks before. I felt I lost a friend when I heard the news.

    L.... L....

@Scott Mcdowell Sept. 20 is President Funny Valentine's birthday (gasp)
Is JoJo Part 7 a Jim Croce reference

  16. d.... B....

    It had to end

  17. T.... E....

Maybe my favorite Jim Croce song it's hard to choose but he was wonderful

  18. f.... d....

His songs his lyrics r so well composed. I just adore his Lover Cross , New york not my home Thursday .these songs r my favourite.

  19. d.... B....

That was deep.. I really love this guy.. am I alone..

  20. J.... M....

Is there an artist that lived who wrote better love songs? Nope. Don't bother looking. You found him.

    J.... M....

You are spot on there brother!

    J.... M....

Apparently there was since Jim didn't write this one.

  21. R.... V....

A Talent His Family Never Wanted For Him

  22. J.... D....

I couldn't agree with you more James but, in this case, he didn't write this song.

    J.... D....

True , Sal Joseph wrote for Jim to sing and play. How do you think Jim did on it?

  23. B.... G....

    jughead's revenge!!!

    B.... G....

    blairzy8888 Lotto 6/49

  24. S.... W....

I remember where I was when I heard in the radio that he died!!! We all have our Forrest Gump moments!!!(;-(

  25. J.... P....

You have to ask: How the hell could Jim write with such understanding of life (looking backwards - song's perspective) at age 28/29 when the song was written?! Amazing ability to have absorbed life experiences he had heard through other people and then translate that into meaningful lyrics. He would of gone on to be one of the best artists of the 1970's and perhaps beyond.
It's one of my Top 3 fav Croce songs!

    J.... P....

brilliant mind lots of experiences with women.

    J.... P....

I believe there are three writers, non being Croce. But a great song.

    J.... P....

Exactly James---been saying that for years!! The depth and breadth as well as the sheer number of songs is astounding!!! A true talent lost far too soon!!!

    J.... P....

Jim didn't write Thursday. But he did write AGE - my most fave Jim song.

    J.... P....

Jim didn't write this one actually.

  26. t.... b....

the way i understand, it was the last song he recorded, then he died on a thursday  so they changed the name of the song to thusday.

    t.... b....

    thomas bock favourite Jimmy sonf

    t.... b....

thomas bock I believe the last song he recorded was Salon and Saloon that was penned by Maury.

    t.... b....

Count Basie recorded the song "Thursday" way back in 1939. Songwriters: DOROTHY SACHS, IRVIN GRAHAM, LOUIS HABER. "Thursday" was the original title. Have no idea why the title but I am sure the answer is somewhere in cyberspace. Doubt if any of the songwriters are still alive, but ya never know.

    t.... b....

@Rick Nehls jim did not write this song and it was not recorded before jim did it.His good friend Joe saulvioulo wrote it and jim surprised him by recording it.

  27. R.... ....

This is actually an amazing poem - the lyrical quality is just another amazing layer.

  28. M.... ....

Along with AGE I think this is one of Jim's best songs

    M.... ....

Box #10 is a gem as well

    M.... ....

Couldn't agree more. Age and Thursday are his 2 best songs.

    M.... ....

Jim didn't write it. His buddy Joe did.

    M.... ....

@C. A. G. Fuck you he didn't ... Jim wrote nearly everything that he recorded. Stop spreading lies...loser.

    M.... ....

My thoughts exactly. I've been a fan for many years---how did I miss these two songs? Oh well, have them now!

  29. j.... ....
