I'm a big fan of Santino's Greg, but I think Skylar's Greg is better at this song. His voice and mood perfectly fits this song. Awesome

I miss Santino Fontana so much. Because we saw all of these episodes and we fell in love with Greg with Santino Fontana playing. He has a witty smile, look and everything. He looks and acts complex and more like Greg we know. As the character develops he can change, of course. But even though Skylar is a good actor and I am so surprised that he can give toning while he sings and talks exactly like old Greg. However, I think he is not the right face for Greg, Santino Fontana was.

I cannot express via words alone how furious i am to have Astin as a replacement for Greg. Nothing wrong with the guy, fantastic singer and all... it's just... he ain't no Greg.

You can hear Greg finally finding peace when Skylar holds that last note. Still gives me chills.

I honestly, really, really miss old Greg. I truly do. Santino Fontana
was a perfect cynical, idiot who happened to fall madly in love with our hapless heroine. And at the same time... I like Skylar Astin as Greg. I've read from interviews that Santino and Skylar are friends and Santino gave him full permission to take the part, and Skylar clearly tries to incorporate the mannerisms of Santino. It's not perfect, but it's really good and Skylar is amazing in his own way.

I got the nostalgia feels when this song first came on during the show and it was neat. But...

The character development in this song is completely unearned. It all happened offscreen so it comes off as cheap and inauthentic.

This isn't helped by the fact that (and this isn't Astin's fault) Santino Greg is the best realized character on the show. Only Rebecca comes close; he's far beyond anyone else. He plays Greg so raw, authentically, and fully exposed that it's just unreal how likeable he is when you consider his flaws and how out in the open they are.

Skylar Astin couldn't hope to even come close to Fontana's performance. And the writing in this reprise isn't doing him any favors. They really needed to tell more of a story with this song. It just wasn't enough.

Again. It's not Astin's fault. But in hindsight this reprise is almost insulting to Original Greg.

I’m sorry but I miss Santino Fontana, he was such an interesting Greg and I can’t get used to Astin playing the same character. Astin is adorable but I keep thinking Astin will turn around and it’ll be Fontana again 😭 maybe they needed someone who didn’t have as good of chemistry since they probably wanted to write Nathaniel as the final love interest. Or maybe there were problems behind the scenes idk I need to go to bed

I love how they handled the recasting of Greg. I find it perfect how they introduced him “that’s a Greg from another parallel universe...he looks nothing like greg.” It was the funniest shit. And I love it. And skylar is great even tho I miss Santino to death

I feel like this season is a little more "subdued" because we're dealing with a healthier Rebecca...the show is not about her doing crazy things anymore, and I've seen some people say it got "boring". If they were only watching it for wacky Rebecca, maybe the show was never for them in the first place. Like Rachel and Aline said before, they never wanted the show to become a bad copy of itself...they could've made the show longer if they kept Rebecca in a bad mental state, doing her crazy, "funny" stuff, hitting rock bottom again and again and again...but that was never what the story was about. Sometimes I see some comments on videos and articles about CXG and I feel that they kinda missed the point of the show.


Anyway, can't wait to see how Rebecca's journey is going to wrap up!

Hermititis WOW that was well said. It brought to light things that I had thought about the show but never fully realized or actively thought about until now. Yes I did like Fontana as Greg but Astin as Greg grew on me. I liked their approach to the recast and as far as I’m concerned they’re both Greg. He had me at I Hate Everything But You (which is a fantastic Springsteen like song) and when he tells Rebecca that she’s the love of his life. Really tugs at the heartstrings. He delivered that beautifully.

Astin and Fontana have very different vocal styles and it becomes very apparent here. (Even though Astin matches Fontana's vocal inflections scarily well.) I feel like that difference was deliberately sought after in casting Greg again. To show the character development.

His voice sounds airier than Fontana's, which adds to the whole getting a bunch of stuff off his chest and becoming a happier person.

Good grief. Astin is a totally generic, rather colorless singer compared to the Broadway powerhouse that is Fontana. I have no idea why they cast him, unless it's because he's no competition to the rest of the cast. Callow; a disservice to the series and the character.
