Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Cast - Nothing Is Ever Anyone's Fault Lyrics

[Nathaniel:]
Before I knew you
I did bad things and didn't know why
But now, I know you
And I've learned to look inside
I understand what makes me
Frightened and sad
So, yes, I still do bad things
But are they actually bad?
No!

Because nothing is ever anyone's fault
We're all just products of childhood trauma
Nothing is ever anyone's fault
Pain causes anger and fear causes drama
We can't control
The things we do
Just like I can't control
That I'm in love with you

[Rebecca:]
Wow, the first part was kind of amoral, but the last thing was really sweet

[Nathaniel:]
Thanks

[Rebecca:]
What else?

[Nathaniel:]
I was raised to believe
That every person's in charge of their fate
But now, I clearly see
That my father's a dick and he filled me with hate
You were the first person who told me that

[Rebecca:]
Maybe you have a point
I was brought up by a fat-shaming mom
Who made me take laxatives
The week before prom (yep!)
Now, I overeat ever since that abuse

[Nathaniel:]
See?
Psychology is a great excuse

[Rebecca:]
Nothing is ever anyone's fault

[Nathaniel:]
Nothing is ever anyone's fault

[Rebecca:]
John Wayne Gacy was hit by his dad

[Nathaniel:]
Exactly!
It wasn't technically Hitler's fault

[Rebecca:]
Wasn't technically Hitler's fault

[Nathaniel:]
Hitler's brother died

[Nathaniel & Rebecca:]
And that made him super sad
It's hard to paint people with evil or glory
When you know that everyone's
Got a tragic backstory
Free will's an illusion
Morality is, too
So, it's not my fault that
My parents messed me up
'Cause their parents messed them up
And Adam and Eve were messed up by god
Who was messed up originally by the big bang
Everything is the big bang's fault!

[Rebecca:]
Good point!
Energy in space was the ultimate bad father

[Nathaniel & Rebecca:]
Nothing is nobody's fault

[Rebecca:]
Nothing is nobody's
Is that a double negative?

[Nathaniel:]
Eh, it sounds good, why bother?
But I'm glad for the trauma

[Rebecca:]
I'm glad for it, too

[Nathaniel & Rebecca:]
'Cause my past is what led me
To fall in love with you

"it wasn't technically hitlers fault" is such a great line

  9. B.... ....

I love when he sings "No!" in the beginning. And "Everything is the big bangs fault!" this song is top 10 for me

  10. A.... A....

I remember seeing the first episode of this show and being disinterested but this song makes me want to binge watch the whole series

    A.... A....

Felt the same at the start but I kept watching anyway.Songs are amazing and creative and plot is interesting and funny while also tackling some darker topics. It painfully underrated and in my opinion totally worth watching

  11. S.... ....

My parents didn't mess me up but I'm still a mess.

  12. k.... ....

THIS IS SO. REAL. this is such a real stage in recovery

  13. D.... A....

See, psychology is a GREAT EXCUSE! 😂😂😂😂😂

  14. C.... G....

He never answers in his social networks and he doesn't have several followers.

  15. M.... A....

Nathaniel reminds me of a shark. Not necessarily in a bad way.

  16. s.... ....

  17. A.... T....

I still do bad things, but are they actually bad? NOOOOOOO
    😂

  18. C.... M....

Um this is just basic determinism. and yes I do watch the Good Place

  19. a.... a....

"but are they really bad? NO!" i love how he doesnt give her a chance to answer the question because he knows she might say yes

  20. d.... p....

As much as I wanted her to end up with Josh, I love Nathans story with her more. I also get that love isn't the end point...but still 😭

  21. K.... L....

If only there was a version of this song they finish in a low tone.

  22. G.... ....

Scott's voice on this song is one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard. I don't know but there are some parts like the way he sings the line "Nothing's ever anyone's fault" at 1:57 his voice makes me cry... If I could choose anyone in the world to sing a duet with, it'd be him

  23. s.... ....

this is probably a stretch but does anyone else sorta get "our love is god" from heathers vibes

  24. M.... m....

    hard determinism

  25. h.... ....

I needed to hear this....I have some thinking to do about making sure I hold myself accountable for my actions and take responsibility for my behavior.

  26. M.... S....

the fact that the song is making fun of having a mindset like this bc the show is completely satirical and there’s still people in the comments taking it seriously and thinking that’s normal is-

    M.... S....

I know its meant to be satirical and I don't take it seriously but I do kinda agree with a few things. Like "Its hard to paint people with evil or glory when everyone's got a tragic backstory." I think that part is true (at least for me.) I'm not going to excuse their bad actions but I can't help feeling sorry for them.

  27. M.... M....

“God was messed up by the Big Bang” new conspiracy theory, I like it.

  28. J.... K....

I hate to say it, but Scott singing "psychology is a great excuse" gives me life 😍

  29. M.... ....

    Team Nathaniel always!!

  30. M.... A....

Does anyone get “Something Good” vibes from Sound of Music? The whole “my bad past is worth it for you”

  31. M.... ....

"I still do bad things, but are they actually BAD? ... NO" cracks me up every time.

  32. n.... n....

    this was so funny

  33. A.... B....

IIIIIIIIIIII shipppppppppp itttttttttttttt sooooooooooo muchhhhhhhhhhhhh ✨💗

  34. B.... G....

this is some heathers “our love is god” shit and i love it, still unhealthy though lmao

  35. J.... L....

As a undergrad psychology student, I can verify this is pretty much exactly what I’ve spent he last 3 years learning

  36. A.... B....

I ship them the most out of every couple (present and past ) in the show !

  37. c.... p....

    i feel cALL OUTTTTTT

  38. .... ....

    デンガンの定理、海外でビッグバネイトされとるww

  39. E.... L....

Half the time I think like this, and half the time I think I might have agency in an interconnected universe. It's very confusing. I do know for sure though - Rachel Bloom, I love your creations and cannot wait until Season 4!!!

  40. A.... ....

The best couple Rebecca and Nathaniel

  41. K.... 2....

Is it weird that this is crazy unhealthy and a step back but I still really like them as a couple and hope they can work past this and be happy together?

  42. A.... ....

Am I the only one who thinks this is a dear Evan Hansen parody

  43. J.... M....

  44. B.... B....

Yeah guys, I get the implied criticism in the song, but just the sound of their harmonies and the music is really beautiful

  45. n.... ....

Hey, what happened to the table?

  46. s.... ....

I'm dead at "everything is the big bang's fault" 😂

  47. E.... T....

Beautiful song, but I was sad while hearing it, cos it's like a farewell song between them.

  48. a.... ....

Out of all the men in her life, Nathaniel seems to be the only one who truly cares about Rebecca.  I kind of hope they do end up together.   Josh doesn't deserve her, Greg was just an idiot. . .and Trent is a nut job. . .of course she could go the route where she decides she doesn't want a relationship at all which is fine too.  Still I think Nathaniel truly loves her. . .which makes her decision at the end of season 3 all that more sad. . .understandable. . .but sad. . .

  49. 0.... ....

I believe this a mastepiece of comedy music theatre and art in general

  50. E.... A....

    But where’s the table?!?

  51. J.... J....

Is this show just on cable? can I watch this online somewhere?

  52. O.... P....

    SHIP IT SO HARD

  53. K.... P....

I mean.. Does anyone else think that Nathaniel looks like the youtuber Gizzy? That's who I see when I see him, heh

  54. R.... B....

    May 2018?

  55. D.... E....

    💚💜♥️💙💛

  56. A.... T....

    I really want a season 4 I used to be team #Grebecca but now I'm team #Nabecca Yas!!! 💙💙💚💚

Also is it just me who actually blamed everything on the Big Bang before.... Yes okay I'll leave

  57. Z.... K....

This is unironically the main theme of Bojack Horseman

  58. H.... C....

    Love it.love it.love it 💕👍🏻

  59. K.... J....

Yes i still bad things, but are they actually bad? NoOooo

  60. N.... P....

Rachel! You should collab on a song with nigahiga

  61. L.... K....

this song is in my head all the time

  62. D.... A....

Loved the show... it is an outstanding project.. wow!!
It takes a great knowledge and cleverness to write such a meaningful show.
Hope to see you in UK for some shows!

  63. b.... ....

when/is season 4 going to come out

  64. J.... ....

... where did the table go? Same place as morality, I guess.

  65. S.... S....

Nathaniel is a narcissist and Rebecca has BPD. Interesting

  66. d.... ....

I assume she learned that information about John Wayne Gacy from the book she read during her sexy French depression.

  67. J.... B....

I pray to all that is holy, that Rachel sees this: Dear amazing Rachel, is it possible to have Kat Dennings guest star, so Rebecca can connect with her character about having enormous boobs? I really reallly want this with a reprise of Heavy Boobs! PLEASE!? You are amazing!

  68. B.... M....

    Is this show cancelled?

  69. B.... D....

OMG, I'm shipping them!! They look so cute together

  70. V.... V....

This wasn't really healthy but its fine. The main point I got from it is that we should have empathy for each other and try to understand other POVs. Still hope they can find a way to have a healthy relationship not based on their toxic pasts.

  71. P.... S....

I can't stop watching this. It's so good. One of the best pieces of musical comedy I've ever seen, easily - it blends heartfelt genuine character moment with total ludicrous amorality so well!

  72. t.... ....

THEIR VOICES BLEND SO BEAUTIFULLY TOGETHER AND GAH THIS SONG JUST MAKES ME FEEL SO MUCH

  73. t.... ....

This is literally every romantic Broadway love song all wrapped up into one and I'm SO HERE FOR IT. (Can't pin my finger on which song exactly, though, and it kills me.)
(The ending is a bit like The Next Ten Minutes? But not quite. Definitely some Jason Robert Brown vibes here.)

  74. W.... S....

Ok, there are so many arguments in this comment section about how this song is either totally sweet or completely amoral, and honestly I feel like both are missing the point. This song takes a true idea (that our present actions are shaped by what happened to us earlier in life), and blows it completely out of proportion to a ridiculously amoral place in a funny way because it is a Comedy Song. It's not meant to be taken at face value, and besides being funny serves as a set up to the choice Rebecca makes later in the episode by showing the unhealthy spiral taking the 'not guilty by reason of insanity' out would create.

    W.... S....

I agree, because the situation is alot more nuanced then that.

  75. s.... a....

Two weeks passed but I'm still crying.

  76. R.... 3....

When will i see another vlog or something😀

  77. K.... ....

    249... pause... wtf?

  78. K.... ....

so... all the school shootings can be blamed on... GOD. or the fact you cannot control yourself . nice parody... for a moron.

    K.... ....

    Yeah its God's fault lol

  79. K.... ....

please... do Bill Nye again... love the fail...

  80. c.... ....

Rebecca probably learnt that fact about John Wayne Gacy during her sexy French depression.

  81. S.... P....

You know this somewhat has a point. People have pain and a past it gives reason for them being them and they do stuff they shouldn't because of it but they can be better then what happened. And yea a cause and effect , you can have control but not all the time.

  82. A.... ....

It took me an embarrassing amount of time to realize why I was so obsessed with this song. (More so than most of my musical obsessions. ) It's a waltz. To quote josh's former song, "duh!" Waltz tempos are so standard and rhythmic they fit perfectly with my ocd.

  83. L.... O....

Notice how he wants responsibility for falling in love with Rebecca but nothing bad he’s ever done so he can’t even commit to this

  84. H.... M....

Who knew Capi could sing wtf

  85. J.... N....

    Love this show so much!!

  86. T.... ....

If there is no season 4 I will seriously jump of my pile of crazy ex girlfriend merch😅

  87. c.... e....

did the season end with that episode?

  88. A.... ....

I seriously can't stop listening to this song !!!

  89. C.... C....

    Great social commentary

  90. Q.... ....

I can't take it anymore!! Rachel! How?? How can you create such a freakingly brilliant show like this. This season's final episode is like the roller-coaster! Paula's gross song, Daryl and white Josh, the confession of Rebecca about her feeling toward Nathaniel and her courage at the end. It's too much! Please, we need to see the fight of Rebecca in season four! (And I really hope Trent will get what he deserve after everything he's done that nobody asked for)

  91. I.... a....

    Fuck you Big Bang!

  92. I.... a....

    Basically my story...

  93. A.... D....

In the beginning the universe was created. This is widely regarded as a bad move.

    A.... D....

    Hitchhicker's guide to the galaxy?

    A.... D....

Damnit, I want to like your comment but it has exactly 42 likes

    A.... D....

@Maria Diniz Costa Exactly 42 likes? The Japanese shini thing or something?

    A.... D....

@Necip Fazıl Ay no bro. In the Hitchiker's guide to the galaxy it says 42 is the answer of the computer earth to the question of the meaning of life.

    A.... D....

    @monazza Fatima Ah, ok

  94. M.... J....

I loved this. They take kind of true things and just run away with them and go way overboard. Kind of like the Without Love song. Perfect and hilarious. I can't wait for season 4!!!!! Also yayyy finally they are together!

  95. K.... H....

    The table disappears.

  96. N.... ....

Ratings are still low, CW will likely cancel this RIP

  97. H.... ....

I was kind of surprised Nathaniel was suggesting an insanity plea; as a lawyer both he and Rebecca should know they are (1) not usually successful, (2) not magical get-out-of-jail-free cards, and (3) if successful, might result in indefinite mandatory commitment (something I'm sure neither wants).

I'm glad they skipped that cliche, because if it had actually been the story arc, not only would Rebecca have no growth, but it would have been lazy writing for a show that usually doesn't shy away from deconstructing tropes to show real-world consequences.

    H.... ....

The show trades material realism in order to explore psychological realism. That’s why an entire room of lawyers in a conference suddenly became more preoccupied with Rebecca’s text than their jobs.

    H.... ....

I was thinking of that too lol. Also that the amount of time she was held after a suicide attempt seemed really short like as soon as she was physically healed she got to go home and she wasn’t held longer. You could attribute both those things to artistic liscense but tbh it seems like there’s a general effort to portray mental health systems accurately so I’m guessing it wasn’t adequately researched (esp the insanity plea thing)

  98. A.... D....

    This Freudian-ass business
