Cray, Robert - Poor Johnny Lyrics

Have a seat and I'll tell you a tale
It wasn't that long ago..
About a guy who turned out to be a cheater got the heater
So the story goes:

He tried the playboy-thing on two friends
Thinking that they'd never know.
They say he got caught in a trap and it snapped
He's not around anymore...

Poor Johnny,

He came home looking cool one day,
Just wasn't lucky to come out that way
Once from the left... then from the right
They took him down, late that night.

Now everyone in town knew he always played around
But not a word was said.
All the money and the clothes,
And the cars that he drove just kept his ego fed.

To his friends he was king,
Cause he thought of everything
Except his number one.

She had the kids and the house,
While he was always out
Leaving his homework undone.

Poor Johnny,
He came home looking cool one day,
Just wasn't lucky to come out that way
Once from the left... then from the right
They took him down, late that night.

Then one day his luck ran out.
When number two found a number and called his house.
Word on the street is that they talked all night
They had to teach him a lesson,
They had to make things right.

Poor Johnny,
He came home looking cool one day,
Just wasn't lucky to come out that way
Once from the left... then from the right
They took him down, late that night.

Poor Johnny,
He came home looking cool one day,
Just wasn't lucky to come out that way
Once from the left... then from the right
They took him down, late that night.

Poor Johnny
Poor Johnny
Poor Johnny
Poor Johnny
Poor Johnny

Great rendition of a great song - but JS - why did you cut off the wonderful introduction by Willie Dixon's widow, cute as a Blues Button! Shame on ya, buddy...

  7. G.... ....

Just don't get why this guy hasn't been more successful than he has. His voice is great enough on its own. Then you add to this his lead guitar playing? Compare this to winners of X Factor? Funny old world?

  8. E.... G....

I love this song. I especially like this version because the effect on the vocals give it depth. The echo on the guitar solo is too much however. To much delay makes it sound like 2 guys playing over top one another

  9. E.... G....

He’s one of those singers that sounds just as good live as on record. And that’s because he is good enough that he doesn’t need studio wizardry to sound good on record. The vocals are usually straight forward on record. Thus, he can reproduce it live like it’s nothing. Plus he doesn’t run around on stage out of breath. It’s always about the music and never the show.

  10. p.... k....

well disciplined song. Jimmy was genius in his own way but this man is humble got a better voice and his guitar is excellent. This man is much respected by Clapton and hence he is a genius not less than jimmy or any other singer with guitar.

  45. A.... ....

Not many guitarists/musicians really grab me. first was Hendrix. Then Chet Atkins. And most recent is this amazing singer/guitarist. such a cool vibe from Robert. and makes that guitar sound great pretty much plugged straight in the amp. I think I've only ever heard him really use delay and tremolo.
