Crash Test Dummies - At My Funeral Lyrics

I'm still young, but I know my days are numbered
1234567 and so on
But a time will come when these numbers have all ended
And all I've ever seen will be forgotten

[CHORUS]
Won't you come
To my funeral when my days are done
Life's not long
And so I hope when I am finally dead and gone
That you'll gather round when I am lowered into the ground

When my coffin is sealed and I'm safely 6 feet under
Perhaps my friends will see fit then to judge me
Oh when they pause to consider all my blunders
I hope they won't be too quick to begrudge me

If I should die before I wake up
I pray that the Lord my soul will take but
My body, my body - that's your job

I can't be sure where I'm headed after death
To heaven, hell, or beyond to that Great Vast
But if I can I would like to meet my Maker
There's one or two things I'd sure like to ask

    Fuck... depressing

  2. D.... H....

    These guys are amazing.

  3. E.... P....

Is there somewhere I can find this song without the words just instrumental

    E.... P....

Easton Price, I have no information about that.

  4. O.... G....

    👍👍👍👍👍 still love this

  5. G.... G....

I bought a 2005 Chevy pickup and found that the 5 disc player didn't work, but the cassette deck does. I have "The Ghost that Haunts Me" in the slot and I listen to it every time I drive the truck.

    G.... G....

George: Cheers to your truck, its cassette deck, and the cassette tape. May they serve you well for a long time!
My first copy of "The Ghosts That Haunt Me" was a cassette tape. I still have it, plus the CD, and the MP3s in my iTunes library.

Crash Test Dummies, what exceeds them, what is better then them???? Nothing...absolutely original, heart wrenching, lovely...lovely...lovely

  7. a.... s....

    Just great stuff

  8. d.... w....

This is a song of pain and redemption in my humble opinion. It is one of the better songs they have.

  9. T.... B....

After hearing this gem of an album and looking at my collection of over five thousand c.d.'s, I realize that there is a HUGE hole in my collection that will now be filled with The Ghosts That Haunt Me! Absolutely stellar tunes from top to bottom on this album-thanks David, for superb upload!

    T.... B....

    THANK YOU Treff Bennett!

    T.... B....

Everyone knows God Shuffled His Feet but not this album as much. Too bad. It's equally as brilliant. And btw, if you get to see them on tour this year, do it. They sound amazing. And they are really good to fans. Class act.

    T.... B....

Yes Jason, I believe the band would just kill it live! I have checked out some live vids here on youtube and thoroughly enjoyed them. I dig the humor in the lyrics, always have loved the sound of a mandolin, and I think Ellen is the "not so secret" weapon! For far too many years I thought they were just a one-hit wonder....this was one of the very few times I liked being completely wrong! Take care and hope the both of us catch Crash Test Dummies live!

  10. J.... ....

I was at Mexico city with a welder crew from Bufalo, NY on 1990 the first time I knew this band.

  11. L.... A....

Recently saw them in Pontiac MI. Sounded great. Was hoping to hear this, but what we heard was great. (this is my bf posting, btw)

  12. S.... G....

    I love u Crash test Dummies Forever!!!!!!❤❤❤❤

  13. M.... ....

This has always been one of the songs on my Funeral PlayList; This & Air's: Surfin' on a Rocket. Hmm, now that I think of it, at my funeral would be too late for this song. I think this could be a way to invite people to a private wake. If you get this song, you are invited, if you get Nirvana's Stay Away, ...then, well...

  14. N.... y....

Can’t get enough of the crash test dummy‘s. Brilliant

  15. S.... P....

Wow. Ok. Make us cry more? :(

  16. J.... B....

Always nice finding this in the bargain section of Half Price Books.

  17. N.... N....

I love his voice. Miss the band.

    N.... N....

    Norman Nortledorf
They just got back together with this lineup (except the mandolin player) and are gonna tour.

    N.... N....

Listen to I'll be peaceful then

    N.... N....

On tour now. Saw them last Saturday. They were absolutely amazing.

  18. S.... S....

John 3:16- "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life" Whosever is you.

  20. A.... J....

    I like this band.

  21. j.... ....

Perhaps maybe when my will my see fit when to my judge me

    j.... ....

@jdaviespa: I assume English is not your native language. What you wrote is unclear. Please try again.

    j.... ....

I think he means that people will withhold their criticism of him until after they know where or not he has left them any money.

  22. M.... L....

  23. R.... K....

very touching thank you ever so much

  24. L.... M....

    Einfach wundervoll.

  25. S.... ....

I haven't heard this song since my dad's funeral. I'm still not ready for it.

    S.... ....

Your Dad must have been a Cool Dude to have wanted this played at his funeral.
    Fitting choice.
(My Dad passed in '03 ... I was only 20 at the time)
    So...I know how ya feel.

    S.... ....

Sorry for your loss and I agree he must have been a Cool Man

    S.... ....

This was played at my dad's funeral too. It's sad to listen to after something like that happens, but it's still nice to listen to for the memories and nostalgia. A sort of sad joy to it. I hope you're doing well.

  26. M.... ....

90s seem like they just left,, 😥😥

  27. w.... ....

Decidingly morbid song, with a strong message, "won't you come to my funeral?"

    w.... ....

wilpol1964 "perhaps my friends will see fit to judge me".

    w.... ....

Read his bio. You'll see why he sang some of the songs he sings.

  28. J.... P....

Won't you come to my funeral, all you who are my REAL friends and gather around to make comments.
Life is not long but can be a bitch..., just love to deal with it !
BTW, "At my Funeral", at MY funeral... :-)

  29. H.... K....

I listened the heck out of this album back in the 90's. :)

    H.... K....

I feel slighted that they didn't do more

    H.... K....

9 albums they did plenty @Kyle Voltti

    H.... K....

    F*** yeah!!!!

    H.... K....

@Runnen Hyde They did, but... they didn't want to get pigeonholed into one particular style, so every album they've released is different in style from every other. I loved their first two albums, and then they lost me...

  30. o.... u....

I'm rapidly approaching the "7 and so on "stage.

  33. D.... R....

+M Joseph Sharp (Mr.Sharp): I am surprised you chose this public video to express such a painful personal situation. I was going to remove your comment. But . . . if this video, "At My Funeral," moves you to write what you've written, I'll let let your comment stand. I wish you well. More than that, I wish you insight, reconciliation and love.

UPDATE (12 Jan 2019): It appears that M Joseph Sharp, somewhere along the way, chose to delete his comment.

  34. C.... C....

They tell me I get two songs at my funeral, this song and Hank Williams Sr "Lost Highway" Will be my fade out tunes.

    C.... C....

first heard this song years ago. its on a grain elevator demolition video here on youtube as a tribute to dissapearing prairie giants. its now a very emotional song for me.

    B.... R....

@David R. Purnell i am doing the demolition on the last wooden grain elevator here in my home town in sperling MB. 4 generations of family farmers have hauled their grain in there. its a pretty emotional thing. i knocked the "annex" down last week and shed a tear after. doing the main house on friday night so everyone can come watch after work and such. i think of my poor old grandpa every minute i am there busting the old girl apart.

    B.... R....

@Brent Russell Brent, thanks for the link to the video, "The Disappearing grain elevator - Part one." I see there is a series of videos on this.
Seeing the demolition, along with the music track of "At My Funeral," makes it most poignant.
I live in a small rural town in southern Minnesota. We have one remaining grain elevator like the one shown in the video.

    B.... R....

@Brent Russell Brent, I can appreciate (as best I can) what an emotional milestone this is for you, given that this has been an integral part of your family's life for four generations! I can see why "At My Funeral" is a very emotional song for you. It can be so heart-wrenching to have to say goodbye . . . to friends, loved ones, and remnants of one's family roots.
The march of time, and technology, is merciless.
Best wishes to you. Be well.

    B.... R....

+David R. Purnell Somehow, I can't help but reflect on the young  soldiers, men & women who have died in wars, some barely out of their teens.

  37. G.... A....

    I love
     your work on this album!

  38. M.... Z....

Thanks for sharing All the album  :)

  39. B.... B....

This band is way to under rated. god this song is so powerful.

  40. D.... R....

Bridget, thank you for your comment to this video.

I've watched the videos you've uploaded about Byron (“Marty”). He was beautiful and so full of life.

For those of us "left behind" by a loved one, the heartbreak is often unbearable. “Good-bye" comes from the expression, "God be with you. I like that. Even so, “good-bye's" can be so painful. Instead of saying "good-bye," I like to think, "Until we meet again."

    With kindest regards,
    David

In memory of BYRON GUY MARTIN " Marty " 1967 09 24 -2007 01 23..miss you with all my Heart Daughter is six ..one day I will play her this!

  42. D.... R....

Xaviergorre: Yes. However, "death" is the demise of what, exactly? There are contrasting views on that subject, yes? :–)
Some would say, "Life doesn't begin with birth, nor end with death."
It’s the age-old question: Do I exist independently of my body?

    D.... R....

Remove your body, and find out.

  43. F.... M....

    amazing song !!!
