To the Faithful Departed es el tercer disco de la banda irlandesa The Cranberries y fue el primer CD que llegó a mis manos allá por el lejano 1997. Antes de eso, escuchaba música en la radio o en cassettes, pero mi abuela Josefina (quien nos visitaba cada verano) tomó a bien regalarme una flamante radiograbadora Emerson con reproductor de disco compacto. Y para ponerle la cereza al pastel, me regaló este álbum... Fue una joya que escuché sin cansarme nunca. Amaba cada uno de sus tracks, pero por una extraña razón que no comprendí hasta años despues, el único tema que mi abuela disfrutaba de verdad era "Joe". Ella no sabía inglés, [ni yo tampoco], así que sólo disfrutábamos esta canción sin saber su contexto: Dolores O'Riordan la había dedicado a su abuelo Joe, quien falleció durante la grabación de este disco. En un par de horas, Dolores escribió este tema tan lleno de amor, melancolía y anhelo por el ayer y la incluyeron en el álbum. Hoy la escucho de nuevo y mi mente se transporta a esos días cuando no imaginaba que extrañaría tanto a mi amada abuelita. Pensandolo bien, estoy seguro que ella sabía el significado de la letra de Joe...

I know the story of this one. Joe was the name of Dolores' grandpa who passed away while they were recording this album, I believe. She wrote this song for him in an hour or so and then, she recorded it with the band days later.
