Cowboy Junkies - Ooh Las Vegas Lyrics
Ooh, Las Vegas
Ain't no place for a poor girl like me
Ooh, Las Vegas
Ain't no place for a poor girl like me
Every time I hit your crystal city you know
Well, the first time I lose I drink whiskey
Second time I lose I drink gin
Third time I lose I drink anything
'cause I think I'm gonna win
Ooh, Las Vegas
Ain't no place for a poor girl like me, no
Ooh, Las Vegas
Ain't no place for a poor girl like me
You're gonna make a wreck outta me
Well, the Queen of Spades is a friend of mine
The Queen of Hearts, she's a bitch
Someday when I clean up my mind
I'll find out which is which
Ooh, Las Vegas
Ain't no place for a poor girl like me
Ooh, Las Vegas
Ain't no place for a poor girl like me
Every time I hit your Crystal City you know
You're gonna make a wreck outta me
Well, I spend all night with the dealer
Tryin' to get ahead
Spend all day at the Holiday Inn
Tryin' to get out of bed
Ooh, Las Vegas
Ain't no place for a poor girl like me
Ooh, Las Vegas
Ain't no place for a poor girl like me
Every time I hit your Crystal City you know
You're gonna make a wreck outta me
[Margo obviously changes the original "boy" for "girl"]

Cool so cool
It is so GP! LOVE the Junkies and this psychedelic is so compelling it shouldbe mood music in every detention and airliner period.
Different yes, but it lost everything that made the song great. 1 Star
Somebody with the guts to call it: this is crap, breathy trendy nothingness.
ooooooooooh las vegas
I LOVE this CD. Showcases what a great songwriter Gram Parsons was. This is my favorite track from it, but the entire CD is great.
They totally 90'ed the song. Yuck!
totally agree; this is just a lot of trendy 99 breathiness. Margo Timmins cannot sing unless she has a lot of created mechanical sound behind her; compare this to Emmy Lou Harris's astonishingly pure voice.
Looks like I've got more research (i.e. into the CJ's earlier music) to do. Thanks for posting.
They destroyed a great song.
They did, all this trendy breathiness ... Gram Parsons' original version far superior in every way. This screams '80s, even if it was recorded in the '90s. Sounds very dated.

Great rendition of GP's song. Margo's amazing voice backed by the sonic guitar sounds of her band create sweet ear candy. Gram would love this!
This version of Gram Parsons classic song is gorgeous. I am totally mesmerized by this band and Margo's ethereal voice!
I bought this CD when it was firs released and it is a great primer for all the idiots that think "The Eagles" invented the whole genre of Country and Rock fused...and do not know the first thing about Gram Parsons, but like the Stones, "Wild Horses", The Eagles and the stuff played on CMT. Love GP and this song is total greatness.
Wonderful album, for always a favorite!
Great cover- wasn't sure who was doing it so checked and it led me here. Such a cool sound.
no human has bested this version-unless you have been there in a bit of a mess, than do not comment
I almost commented on my own-time for vegas
oh i think gram parsons did a decent job on his own song.
margot timmins 's voice is so sexy! great sound
THE best cover version EVER.
Love this song.
this is good......whiskeytown cover of "song for you" is good too
Love this.
the best GP cover...ever
Yes, the Grevious Angel CD has great covers from beginning to end.
Two other great covers by others:
Lyle Lovett's cover of the Robert Hunter-Jerry Garcia song 'Friend Of The Devil'. And I just discovered the live version by Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers of the same Grateful Dead song. Picture Perfect!
I was going to say exactly the same. This is up there with Hendrix's cover of All Along The Watchtower as one of the best covers of all time. There are so many good covers on the Grevious Angel covers album, this is amongst the very best on there. The Mavericks' take on Hot Burrito is brilliant too...
Not only is this the best cover version of a timeless song by Gram Parsons it's one of the best cover songs i've ever heard.
I highly recommend this CD to anyone that loves great Americana Roots Music.

Fantastic tribute album, I have bought this twice and had it stolen twice. Thanks for the upload!
I dug this CD out again recently and have been listening to it pretty much nonstop since.
