Counterparts - Thank God Lyrics

I want to thank you for never being there. Your absence has
forced me to find my own way. While others are led through life with a
blindfold, I can see clearly, the rain will wash me away. I reject the thought
of a god when all we see is the work of an ill-fated world. I reject a liar’s
cross. Who am I to say what I believe is right for the masses? I just know it’s
right for me. For this I have secured my place in hell, but every day I face is
my own heaven in the making. What do you believe in? What do you think is
right? Centuries have passed, the voice of reason is still being suppressed.
Salvation dances in front of their faces, but they’re too blind to see. I
reject the thought of a God, when all we see is the work of an ill-fated world.
I reject a liar’s cross. Thank you for never being there. Thank God for never
being there.

Counterparts Thank God Comments
  1. Psycho Flicks Productions

If there is any band whom's lyrics I would get tattooed on my body, it would be Counterparts. Poetry in musical form.

    Jacob Butler

I feel that, the way he worded 'i swear ide never fucking feel like this' in "the disconnect" is what made me realize that. Theres a few different ways to say it, but he made it sound so good with his phrasing.

  2. Jack B

@bce5150 Yeah, lyrically it's a flaw in the song.

God always leads us and some of us aren´t able to understand and to feel that. But that´s ok, because of this atheism, ppl are able to get stronger and wiser than these foolish ppl with their perfect lives, blinded by money, fame, and mainstream culture. And even if u decline God, God has reached his aims/objectives in that way.

  6. Reptar Rawr

i feel bad about the words, I love this band though :(

  7. Bror

w-- what are you saying? .-.

  8. joshua rodin

    they are not christian

  9. mikejoneslenni

I just like bands that believe in what they sing about. It doesn't matter who it is.
I saw Gideon and Counterparts at the same concert. It was glorious!

  10. Jesus Sanchez

I wish people wouldnt preach their beliefs on the comments section all the time. No one wins in the end. Just enjoy the music, or go to another video. Go listen to what you like if you dont like this, and if youre atheist thats cool too but stop preaching your belief like you know its 100% true, youre just as irritating as Christians for me.

  11. SchwegSchwegly44

I'm personally a christian and i dig this band, Don't hate on Christian bands.

  12. Jake Dangerfield

The feels. A feely feel that feels.

  13. Duvet Cape-Man

Should listen to Departures, More Than Life and Lanscapes, they're all fucking amazing.

  14. Noah Brierley

i think a lot of hardcore fans would agree that counterparts have some of the most awesome heart felt lyrics in the hardcore scene. Personally Counterparts is one of my favourite bands and a large reason behind that is the lyrics

  15. Geggy P

This is such a sick band, but Im getting sick of these new wave hardcore scene's lyrics! Too lame.. Im not speaking from a theists or atheists viewpoint, it's just that these lyrics are poorly written.

  16. Soil Bound

I might at well put my two cents in as well. I don't know if there is a God but I certainly don't talk negatively or bad about him. I don't know how this world was made. All I know for a fact is i'm here and I'm alive. As of now I consider Earth to be my religion so to speak. I believe Nature is the the purest and Is serenity in my eyes. It's indescribable to me.

  17. Marshall Bliss

i respect this band for standing up in what they believe in just as much as a christian band standing up to what they believe in. like seriously. people need to stop being so butthurt. im a christian, but i respect atheists as brothers. there's no need for hate in this world. maybe if we took a moment to look at what we have in common vs. what differentiates us, well... who knows?

  18. georgedrumz93

The ignorance is rollin off your body like steam from a pond in the dead of winter

  19. D Collar

You really should understand the language of science and quit thinking all Christians are unintelligent. You stop the persecution, we win. You keep it up, we win. Suprised you haven't caught on to that. Do not worry, I used to be an atheist and do the same thing. Smile, Yahshua loves you. Have a good life buddy.

  20. bce5150

I reject the thought the thought of a God... but I haven't secured my place in a Hell that doesn't exist.

  21. ohalistair

What makes a Christian band petty? The fact they sing what they believe? That's no different to what Counterparts is doing here.

Truth of the matter is, no matter what they sing about, majority of the Christian bands "littering" the hardcore scene are just generally better bands.
    Counterparts being an obvious exception.

  22. Dávid Szalma

    Mine too ^_^

  23. Chris Hansen

In no way am i trying to start a comment war or argument, but i just think i'd rather believe in something and have a greater purpose in life :P i love this band and i love Jesus. i know its a tuff pill to swallow man so i am not gunna try and persuade you to my religion. but whats wrong with christian lyrics? i mean even when i was an agnostic i loved christian lyrics.

  24. bce5150

    Amen...

  25. goodleshoes

The band being Christian or not doesn't affect how good the music is. Stop kidding yourself.

  26. Mark Leukhardt

    @Adanster12 xD
Thank you man, similar to this? You can try Hand of Mercy, Beheading of a King, Breakdown of Sanity, Bleed From Within, Blind Witness, Exits, The World We Knew.
Not sure how many of those you'll like, but you can give them a shot!

  27. Adan Franco

@MarkTheDead Dude. you just gave me two fuckin awesome bands to ponder on for years. Any more recommendations? You have great taste.
