Costello, Elvis - Tear Off Your Own Head (It's A Doll Revolution) Lyrics

Who dries your eyes when you cry real tears?
Who know or cares what an imitation is?
Only you do
You can paint his nails
Make him wear high heels
Why waste time altering the hemline?
Or do you?

Tear off your own head
Tear off your own head
It's a doll revolution

You can bat your lashes
You can cut your strings
You can pull his hair with your moveable fingers
It looks so real
If one won't do it, so collect the set
Dress him in pink ribbons
Put him in a kitchenette
How does this feel?

Tear off your own head
Tear off your own head
It's a doll revolution

What's that sound?
It will turn you around
It's a doll revolution

They're taking over
And they're tearing it down
It's a doll revolution

You can pull and pinch him
'Til he cries and squeals
You can twist his body 'til it faces backwards
Those plastic features
You could make somebody a pretty little wife
But don't let anybody tell you how to live you life
Broken pieces

Tear off your own head
Tear off your own head
It's a doll revolution
Tear off your own head
Revolution

Great song from The Shape of Things. That movie is excellent. Free on demand Starz. Try to watch it!

  2. B.... ....

The Shape of Things brought me here.....oh the memories😊

    B.... ....

The Films (Neil LaBute's brilliant Stage Play brought to the Screen, same Actors also brilliantly) and the great Music they incorporate!!!!!

    B.... ....

That is Such a great movie! That brought me here too. It's free on demand Stars til 1-2-20

Sorry but Bangles version is superior!

    a.... m....

No way. This is one of EC's best songs hands down

    a.... m....

TheBangles wouldn’t have been able to record it if EC hadn’t written it.

Theirs does not thrash and this song thrashes, literally and figuratively. They're just singing. Elvis is givin it to us. Elvis is more in touch with his feminine side than the Bangles are. And there it is.

  4. D.... k....

Easily, matches the brilliance of ," Armed Forces," "Goon Squad," or " Busy Bodies," Elvis truly regained stature here.

  5. J.... R....

VERY POORLY UPLOADED .... too much "level" ... it distorts like CRAZY.... :(

    J.... R....

This is exactly how the CD sounds. It was meant to sound like this.

    J.... R....

    This was a joke, right?

  6. L.... R....

    Costello's version is way better!

    L.... R....

    respectfully disagree!

    L.... R....

    SO much better!

  7. p.... ....

I'll never know what Bruce Thomas might have brought to this. Davy does a fair job of going toy weird though behind the rock

  8. k.... ....

    The lyrics are crazy good

  9. S.... ....

Sorry but the Bangles version is vastly superior.

    S.... ....

Check out Herman's Hermits' 'My Reservation's Been Confirmed.' Exact same riff! Elvis ripped them off.

    S.... ....

    it was written for them

One of the few times I like a remake better - the Bangles did a nice job on this one. Costello still rocks, however.

  11. p.... ....

    one of elvis's best albums

I agree! I used to hate him in the late 70's-80's when I was a punk. Thought he was a poseur. Lolol. My palate has expanded....

  12. C.... M....
