Costello, Elvis - Monkey To Man Lyrics
A long time ago, our point of view
Was broadcast by Mr. Bartholomew
And now the world is full of sorrow and pain
And it's time for us to speak up again
Such an arrogant brood
The only purpose you serve is to bring us our food
We sit here staring at your pomp and pout
Outside the bars we use for keeping you out
You've taken everything that you wanted
Broke it up and plundered it and hunted
Ever since we said it
You went and took the credit
It's been headed this way since the world began
Monkey to Man
Every time man struggles and fails
He makes up some kind of fairytales
After all of the misery that he has caused
He denies he's descended from the dinosaurs
Points up to heaven with cathedral spires
All the time indulging in his base desires
Ever since we said it
He went and took the credit
It's been headed this way since the world began
When a vicious creature took the jump from Monkey to Man
Monkey to Man
Big and useless as he has become
With his crying statues and his flying bomb
Goes 'round acting like the chosen one
Excuse us if we treat him like our idiot cousin
He hangs up flowers and bells and rhymes
Hoping to hell someone's forgiven his crimes
Fills up the air with his pride and praise
He's a big disgrace to our beastly ways
In the fashionable nightclubs and finer precincts
Man uses words to dress up his vile instincts
Ever since we said it
He went and took the credit
It's been headed this way since the world began
When a vicious creature took the jump from Monkey to Man

ok cool
Sad state of the world when such a legend only has 19k subscribers.
Legend never dies🤘🏼
1. Yes, I'm back.
2. Why are there only 4,186 views of this?!
3. Seven people are tone deaf and probably clap on the 1 and the 3.
Great video!! Lots of fun!! I love it!!
LOVE LOVE LOVE.
This sounds as fresh to me now as 'Radio Radio' sounded to 15 year old me. Always a fan. I can't think of any of Costello's diverse work that I haven't enjoyed.
A really cool song! - That what is called "The good old English school" - both in music composition and performance!!. And a cool video as well! Enjoyed it, and we know and very much appreciate you yet since Chet Baker times, Sir Costello!!. BRAVO!
Classic
My top 5 vocalist of all time. I love Elvis's singing voice, it's completely his own I've never heard a voice like it. Love his music as well have just about everything he's done. Love the Imposters love the Attractions. Elvis Costello is Ace 🤙. I love his music so much that back in the day when I would buy CDs I'd buy two of the same CDs and give them away like "Motel Matches". I wanted everybody to hear Elvis Costello.
Gino Rossellini He has his own accent.
So Cool! thanks for the video! we love you so much in the Nederlands! have a good day xxx
