Costello, Elvis - King Horse Lyrics

Cheap cut satin and bad perfume
Showtime is almost here
Teased up by a strip cartoon
Laughing up your sleeve
Sniggering in your beer
He'd seen the bottom of a lot of glasses
But he'd never seen love so near
He'd seen love get so expensive
But he'd never seen love get so dear

[Chorus:]
Now I know that you're all King Horse
Between tenderness and brute force [Repeat]

She can turn upon a sixpence in the mouth and trousers set
Hit the bill, ring the bell, never spill a sip
And still she knows the kind of tip that she is gonna get
A lot of loose exchanges, precious little respect
When it's someone else's weekend
That's the best you can expect

[Chorus]

So fond of the fabric
So fond of fabrication
From comic books to tragic
Through the heart of complications

Meanwhile back in some secluded spot
He says 'will you please?' and she says 'stop'
If I ever lose this good thing that I've got
I never want to hear the song you dedicated tonight
Cause I knew that song so long before we met
That it means much more than it might

[Chorus]

Ok. Is the song really about Heroin addiction?

    B.... ....

Well, I was wondering what King Horse is...

    B.... ....

@Erwin Woodedge It's a small joke: he is euphemistically saying
"Now I know that you're fucking whores..."
The rest of the song makes sense when you know that. Nothing to do with heroin.

    B.... ....

Spot on! Thank you for that! Now I can enjoy this song even more.

  10. b.... j....

I saw an EC solo show around the time this video was uploaded. When he started off with this song, I knew we were in for a fantastic show.

  13. P.... L....

Awesome. Elvis at the peak of his lyrical and melodic powers. This album is impressive for the number and exquisite quality of all the songs but this is the icing on the cake.

  14. D.... W....

Great song from my favourite Elvis album. A triumph by the Thomas Twins.

  15. s.... ....

fantastic album driven by Bruce on the bass - what a brilliant player he is.

    s.... ....

that is 110 percent correct. one can learn the ins and outs of the four string.

    s.... ....

    Criminally unrecognized bassist.

    s.... ....

Seriously! Bruce Thomas is definitely one of the top bassists in the history of rock music, and without a doubt the most underrated.

  16. C.... A....

Fabulous song, great chords, wonderful Steve Nieve keys, great harmonies and gorgeous melody. the lyric aint bad either ...

    THANK YOU for uploading this!

  18. S.... ....

    I love this song!

But I don't get it. The other songs have a strong 60s R&B sound, as suggested, but this one still has that early new wave sound he tried to avoid.
