Corey Smith - Twenty-One Lyrics
When I was only seventeen, couldn't wait for twenty one
I'd hang around on Clayton Street in the bars there gettin' drunk
A baseball cap and a fake ID would get me in the clubs
Then I would dance with the college girls and lie about who I was
I'd say "I'm pre-Med. here at UGA, live on Milledge Avenue.
I was breakin' hearts and takin' names and numbers just for fun.
Stealin' kisses wishin' I was twenty one.
When Thursdays came and pocket change would quickly disappear
Upstairs at Lowry's Tavern, we'd pay a nickel for every beer
Shootin' pool, smokin' cigarettes with a dizzy head and a grin
Four A.M. on a school night, still hangin' out with my friends
One hour's sleep on a dirty couch, no shower, off to school
Smellin' just like a brewery with a bad hangover too
The teachers all would hassle me: "Stay awake, pay attention"
I was catchin' hell, wishin' I was twenty one.
The youngest one of all my friends, I didn't act my age
Too cool for the football games and the homecoming parades
Now I look back and I have to smile, cause boy it was fun
Bein' seventeen, wishin' I was twenty one
Now I'm only twenty six, feelin' more like fourty three
My hairline's disappearing, and I never get ID'd
My clothes are out of fashion, no I'm not cool anymore
In the bed by ten o'clock each night, and up at half-past four
Still I go down to that college town when the Bulldogs play at home
I drink keg beer from a trash can til the whole damn thing is gone
Then I look at all those college girls so innocent and young
And I just check 'em out, and say "Damn... I wish I was twenty one"

Malak see you
Finally turned 21 and now this song hits different
Like I was once told by my dad when I was 16-17 “ enjoy and live it up while you can, one day all of this will be just another memory”
Man this song has changed a lot. But it has changed with me so I’m right there with you.
Probably the worst song of the past 3 decades
Been jamming this song for over 10 years and still gets to me
Brings back lots of memories of the ole high school days. Every Friday night after our game wed go ride back roads and drink and go to bonfires/parties and in the summer we did that just about every night. Especially the summer going into my senior year we only had a handful of sober nights and we’d be wishing we were 21. And now that we are ain’t much to it except you can buy beer.
“My favorite conversations start with I remember when” I felt that
My friend interduced me to this song
I love his music. This song, fuck the po po, and maybe next year my top 3. #ContryMusicIsLife
21 WideHardo 21 WideHardo 21 WideHardo 21 WideHardo 21 WideHardo 21 WideHardo 21 WideHardo
This song has always given me goosebumps. Crazy this guy isn't mlre famous than he is. Beats the garbage they call music today.. that's for sure.
This sounds like me now😬

Man! Why didn’t I come across this video at 21, I was that age for the longest. Now I’m 22 and miss it ever so much even though it’s only been a year.
My wife and I where lucky enough to see Corey play in Nashville whilst on holiday what a great live performance, this song sums up growing up and how life is going so fast, enjoy your youth while you can ....
envious of those who can relate to this song
This is really good. I’m only 15 but I can still somehow relate.
I remember seeing this show up on CMT when Corey first made this video and thinking he was finally getting his time to become huge. But never did... which sucks. I was 14 at the time, and I'm 22 now and just now gonna see him live in Green Bay in a couple weeks. Still love his music.
Found this when I turned 21 I will be 22 at the end of March preparing for Taylor Swift. 😂
For God sakes don't murder your ears 😂
31 wishing i was 21
Got denied from UGA 😂
44 and still wish I was damn 21
Oh sweet ATHENS!@ :) We went every Thursday night to Nickel night with our fAKE ID's and stumbling to freinds cars hoping that the police on their bicycles wouldn't harass as we would throw up formally the cheap liquor at Lowery's
Nowhere Bar!
I remember playin this song at party's in my truck when I was 19. I'm 30 now n I'd give anything to go back to them days
Creepy....pop cuntry
this song puts a smile on my face every time i listen to it bc i remeber when me an my dad would ride around drinking beer an it would come on miss those days
Nowhere bar
Man this song just gets me down. Love it but it hits home so hard!
Go Dawgs
I was 25 when this came out and I was still relating to the 21 year olds. I’ll let you do the math, but I’m relating more and more to the middle class and middle aged and have nothing in common with a 21 year old anymore. It’s sad to look back and realize how much fun it was when I didn’t think anything of it at the time. Oh well. I suppose when I’m 50 I’ll be saying, damn. I wish I was 31.
Cory smith a strip tip
I can say this was me all the way back in the day. Still miss them days
Spotify just removed this and im pissed. Time to get rid of spotify
Was a teenager when I first heard this song now I'm 29 still a great song
Wer my hair
I’m 21 now (2018) I will be back in a few years
I wish I was 21
I remember listening to this as a teenager now married with 2 kids and working shift work at 26 it means a lot more
I don't understand why this song was remade. This sounds terrible.

You have got to come to Murphy Arts District in El Dorado Arkansas. .. save me a trip to Ruston. ..

this song brings back so many memories with my dad. god i miss him, he's still here just different.
I first heard this song when I turn 21
I can't wait till he comes to Hiawassee GA and plays
He forgot to sing about the crackhead bums that chase you all over Clayton St. And the murders on Washington St. Oh, also the abductions on Washington St. Athens is a great place y'all come visit ya here!?
Mitch G You definitely have the crackhead part right, can't go down any street without them on the corner asking for money.
I love this song it reminds me of myself and my life I have lived if to the fullest and this song makes me want to do it all again. love all your music. love ya Cory
Man this song brings back some memories haha. I turn 29 in a couple of months, and I will admit this song hits home.
great song
This song speaks the truth. I remember hearing this for the first time in 2007ish wishing I was 21. Now years past 21 it would be nice to go back before all the responsibility of life haha.
Sidenote: why'd you change the lyrics. "Still I go down to that college town when the bulls dawgs play at home" "I drink keg beer from a trash can til the whole damn thing is gone"
Corey you're great man!
oglethorpe county in this bitch
HELL, I love Heather!!!
love these song the song it goes that to Randy Taylor and Gore
Staring at the losing side of 25... man I truly do wish I was still 21. Song hits me right in the feels every time.
johnny banana just turned 26, sobering isn't it :(
I'm 17 wishing I'm 21
Brianna Wheeler well you shouldn't saver it.. i listen to this when i was 17.. 28 now it just hella sad now.. lol i feel like him at the end now.. years fly by after 21. you got nothing to look forward to.
About to turn 24; I feel like I was 21 just yesterday.
Well it looks like you’re 18 now so what’s up, I’m Taylor.
Brianna Wheeler
Brianna Wheeler no you don't.. Trust me. Stay 17 forever in your mind.
God I'm 18 and this depresses me because I'm now living in the best time of my life and I don't want to be 21. I want to stay this age forever because I can last for days and I hate to think about how it's all going to end in a couple of years and it's all going to fly by so damn quick.
Trey Tuck Well, now you’re 20, how is it?
haha his tour bus is riding next to me xD coming outta San Diego
I dont understand why Corey Smith isnt a huge star. I usually cant stand this type of music, but Smith is phenomenal.
Kyle Donovan no his older music is really great its just he doesnt want to be a sell out thats why he does small venues and fairgrounds and produces all his stuff himself but his older stuff is just as good as this if you didnt know but this song is not the orginal he changed the last verse becuase people were getting mad at him so he remastered it and put it on his album the broken record
I just didn’t try hard enough, that’s why I’m not a superstar. John Mayer wishes he had half the talent I have, but he’s got twice the motivation. 🤷🏻♂️
Probably because he refuses to be someone he’s not
he wont conform to "country" standards and sell out
Corey Smith is my cousin
I live in Dahlonega georgia. everyone loves you here.
Heather Chandler True I live here to
Heather Chandler i been there once the day before I headed north bound on the AT :) cool little town
I was down there for a bit....at Hidden Lake Academy just off of Camp Wahsega Road. Beautiful country town...horrible school.
I owned a brick house at one time on Black Mountain Road
Mindcrft
makes me think of the good times im 21 wishing I was 17
thank you for this song #Coreysmith I'm 17 right now I can relate to this song.
In my 30 years of life I have never had an artist bring me to such a happy place in my mind that it brings me to tears. I have been following you for a long time now and I had the pleasure of seeing you in concert a long time ago at AU in Alabama. Hope to hear more from you brother!!
I got to see him perform in Sky Bar, many years ago. It was a fantastic night. So many good memories!
Mike Pritch amen brother
Exactly bro, takes me back to those great times and brings tears to my eyes as well lol I’m 30 wishing I was 21 lol
Got drunk in the 80s bar when my brother had his wedding at UGA Chapel..good times. GO DAWGS!! SIC EM! WOOF WOOF!
I wish I was twenty-one
Mamas drinking liquor again

Here’s to UGA. I might not like your fans, but Athens is the greatest college town in America.

For You Lil East ❤
Here are the lyrics...

I was breakin' hearts and takin' names and numbers just for fun.
Stealin' kisses wishin' I was twenty one.

seen u last night at blind horse saloon!
I remember the first time I heard this song I was 8 my oldest brother showed it to me when he was 16 now I'm 15 and he's 21 wow how time flys by
i remember listening to this before i was 21(16) and now im 24 and this song is... well its sadd af lol
Stfu. I’m 30 and it hits like a fucking freight train. Fucking A. Guy 25 and younger here’s a tip...be 21.
Guys don't feel bad, I graduated HS in 98 and my stepdaughter is in her final quarter at UGA friends with all the fball and bball friends. My oldest girl just began driving so it wont be long but the problem is the mother of my 2 kids moved 10 minutes over the state line into Florida so all of the xtra classes they took and college classes they began in junior high mean nothing because those specific activities do nothing for Florida college.
I wish I had a song like this when I was 20-21 😂
Time moves slowly, but quickly
His son goes to my school
We ALWAYS listen to this while camping or near the river. Love it <3
How time flys, who wouldn't like to go back
Awesome Song Thank you autoplay
Came across this one when looking for Hunter Hayes song but this is also great!
this song is so touching telling you how u wish u were 21 while ur a child but nobody realizes what little time we have on this earth before Jesus takes us up .to heaven too be with him
Missing the 80's Bar...
Wow this song has spoken to me since I was 21 till today at 32. Crazy how time flies by.
+Jeremy Jenkins Do you realize that this song is only 4 years old or are you THAT high right now? Be honest...
+TheMightyMrPlow This song has been out since 2003, this one was just uploaded in 2011.
this song is so damn
"Nickel Night" and "Penny Night"...What memories (surprisingly, I have a few...) Who knew one person could drink so many amaretto sours...Probably why I have to stick to the Bud Light these days...
I absolutely love this song but I prefer the original lyrics much more than the ones in this video.
