Cooper, Alice - The Quiet Room Lyrics

[Alice Cooper / Bernie Taupin / Dick Wagner]

The California air
Your nightgown on the stairs
I remember every night
Scenes from home in the Quiet Room

How long have I been gone
Did winter kill the lawn
And all those polaroids you sent
Are on the wall in the Quiet Room

They've got this place
Where they've been keeping me
Where I can't hurt myself
I can't get my wrists to bleed
Just don't know why
Suicide appeals to me

The Quiet Room
Is sterilized and white
It's like a tomb
With just a moth stained naked night

Plastic forks and spoon
No laces in my shoes
They allknow what I tried to do
Outside the Quiet Room

This quiet place
It ain't so new to me
It's haunted atmosphere
Has heard so many scream
My home from home
My twilight zone
My strangest dream

My confidant
I have confessed my life
The Quiet Room
Knows more about me than my wife

They've got this place
Where they've been keeping me
Where I can't hurt myself
I just can't
I just can't get these damn wrists to bleed

A mattress on the floor
No handles on the door
I really need nothing here
I'm alone

In my job I work with many people who are suicidal. When placing diet orders I have to specify “plastic forks & spoons”. Inevitably I will find myself singing this song the rest of the day

This entire album is Phenomenal.  Alice's best by FAR.  Not a bad song on it.

  13. c.... t....

There is so much of an Elton John sound on this whole album. I guess because Bernie Taupin was a co-writer... Sayin'

  14. D.... T....

This album gets better every time I hear it and this is the classic song on it. Too bad I've never actually seen it live - just on some old youtube videos "live."

  18. A.... P....

I was 16 and in the state hospital when this came out. It didn't take them long to confiscate this cassette.

  19. M.... D....

My brother told me how this made him and my dad cry while driving me to school. Played it in the car speaker and I gave it a listen. Felt sad, but didn't cry. Turned around to see me, a 12 year old, with a straight face but my usually kick ass, strong, brave 21 year old brother sobbing. Couldn't imagine seeing my father doing the same, he never cried.

  20. F.... R....

Alice est un immense chanteur, il le prouve ici même après cette difficile épreuve d'une cure de désintox. Bravo Monsieur Cooper. You'r the Best, forever.

Daniel Moore Mad house rock world tour 1979 April 13 a Friday the 13th Dallas Texas

  38. J.... M....

I leant this album out to a friend and it came back scratched. That's when I made my mind up to never lend anything out again lol

  39. J.... L....

Just like on Iggy Pop albums -- Alice always peppered his wild albums with some intense, wonderfully serious songs.
This is one of his best.

  40. T.... H....

got the comic book of this wonderful humanizing work of musical art

  41. s.... s....

Beautiful and poignant. Deep, pure tears and blood on the page. Alice's most personal song, along with "How will you see me now" . From the Inside, his best album.

  42. J.... ....

    Love this song

  43. J.... M....

absolutely the best album I heard from Alice Cooper I can really relate to this song

  44. V.... R....

Lyrics so personal, so profound, so powerful, so meaningful, u can feel it all

  45. T.... P....

I know his pain god please save us all from life

  46. G.... L....

This song means so much. Got me through horrible depression as a teen in the 80's. I felt connected to someone.

    G.... L....

I am glad I am not the only one who turned to this Album in The 80's!

    G.... L....

Dalene Baxter same here....felt alone in Texas..... still do sometimes..

    G.... L....

I know the quiet room well.

    G.... L....

I alway wear headphones and then when I’m in line up I say I’m sorry I have the earphones in because it’s stops the voices in my head .

    G.... L....

I'm only 22 but I've been through a lot in my short time alive that I can easily relate to this song and honestly pretty much the whole album. I've attempted suicide 3 times a few years back, self harmed (by cutting myself) and have been dealing with severe depression for about 12 years now, I've stayed in a psychiatric hospital, I have Autism which presents its own struggles, and I have a very mild case of Cerebral Palsy that makes me walk different than everyone else that surprisingly, I'm still looked at strangely for, even at 22. I saw Alice live back in November of this year and I loved it. It sucked he played no songs from this album but he usually doesn't. It's a shame because this album clearly helped a lot of people and even in 2019, still helps people such as me that life just really beats up sometimes. Glad to see this album helped more people than just me.

  47. T.... P....
