Cooper, Alice - Pain Lyrics

I'm hidden in the scream
When the virgin dies
I'm the ache in the belly
When your baby cries
And I'm the burnin' sensation
When the convict fries

I'm pain
I'm your pain
Unspeakable pain
I'm your private pain

And I'm the compound fracture
In the twisted car
And I'm the lines on the face
Of the tramp at the bar
And I'm the reds by the bed
Of the suicide star

You know me- I'm pain
I'm your pain
Your own private pain
Unfathomable pain

And it's a compliment to me
To hear you screamin' through the night
All night
Tonight

I'm the holes in your arm
When you're feeling the shakes
I'm the lump on your head
When you step on the rake

And I'm the loudest one laughing
At the saddest wake

Yes I'm pain
I'm just pain
Dear old pain
You need your pain

And I'm the loudest one laughing
At the saddest wake

I'm the salt in the sweat
On the cuts of the slaves
I was the wound in the side
While Jesus prayed
I was the filthiest word
At the vandalized grave

Yes, pain
Do you love me pain
I love my pain
I'm your pain

It's a compliment to me
To hear you screamin' through the night
All night
Tonight

Cooper, Alice Pain Comments
  1. Y.... 0....

I remmeber being crazy for this song at age 12, 2020 now, nearing 18 in 7 months, I LOVE ALICE AND THIS SONG!!! It sounds so romantic, so .... blood boiling <3

  2. e.... ....

'From The Inside' and 'Flush The Fashion' are my two favorite Alice Cooper albums. 'Pain' and 'Clones (we're all)' are two great tracks from 'Flush The Fashion'. I think the OST for the movie 'Roadie' (1980) has an alternate version of 'Pain'?

  3. d.... t....

The version on the soundtrack rodies was a little different

  4. R.... G....

One of the greatest alice cooper songs.

  5. A.... O....

    Advert for not touching cocaine

  6. W.... ....

For a long time I avoided these albums purely because in the 90s nobody talked about them and Alice didn’t play any of the songs live. Flush the Fashion is actually a very solid album and I like it a lot.

  7. B.... K....

Was he listening to BOC Hot Rails To Hell when he made this song?

  8. s.... o....

Although it's in color, this video has a silent movie era quality to it. Brilliant.

  9. C.... ....

It's a real miracle that he lived through this period of his life. Vince looks deathly ill here. Glad that he is a true survivor.

  10. m.... ....

Anyone know why, on this video, cars are french immatriculation ?
Quelqu'un peut expliquer pourquoi les voitures ont une immatriculation française sur cette vidéo ?

  11. T.... S....

    He become shit after this

  12. P.... M....

I saw him performing this song two years ago. Believe me, he sang it with more power or and performed with more intense percussion. It was one of the best Songs this evening. You can find his Concert in Dresden 2017 as well on YouTube.

  13. R.... S....

    I love New Wave Alice.

  14. C.... S....

You can tell that he was fighting his demons around this time.

  15. L.... S....

Alice describes this period of his career as "Acapolyps Alice"...!

  16. E.... D....

Flush The Fashion is an absolute masterpiece of work.

  17. M.... ....

He must have done any number of videos we've rarely seen, if ever. This song was the most "Ezrin-like" of the RTB productions on "Flush The Fashion". There's another recording of this song on the "Roadie" soundtrack (along with a newer version of "Road Rats"), that was produced by Todd Rundgren, and has most of Utopia on the track. It's great in its' own way, and Alice changes the "all night...tonight" line around at the end of that version. Alice and the group make an appearance in that film as well. As seen with "Clones", it's good that Alice could still make great music, even if he was jeopardizing his health at the time. It's ok to look back on this period of his life now, since we know he got healthier after that.

  18. S.... ....

One of his best songs ever

  19. m.... c....

    Fabulous

  20. F.... L....

He looks ill on this . Happy he recovered since that time.

  21. J.... P....

BEST song he did in years when this came out

De los mejores temas que he tenido la oportunidad de disfrutar una obra maestra

  25. M.... L....

THRILLS!!! just THRILLS!!! love that album & "Flush the Fashion"

  26. A.... R....

Very underrated song! i can't believe i never seen video! shame on me.

  27. D.... D....

"...And i'm the loudest one laughing at the saddest wake"
That line was me in childhood and teen years. I love the lyrics in this song.

  28. D.... D....

yes in so many ways. i love alice.

  29. S.... C....

I still can't believe that I saw pain live 2 times
I was so excited when it started I was loosing my mind. 😍😍😍
I love this song soo much

  30. L.... P....

Excellent song more of rock sound then new wave sound off of Flush for Fashion

    L.... P....

It was from flush the fashion he was in pain himself. He had fallen off the wagon and finally said enough is enough,he came close to being divorced.

  31. R.... S....

Awesome, he did an interlude to this song for like 5 lines when I saw him w/DP

    R.... S....

Reaper Syn really , he did the whole song when I saw him here in germany

  32. D.... P....

    FANTASTIC, Best Alice Cooper Album.

  33. N.... E....

This is a true masterpiece. It's so beautiful in its own way, it made me teary...

  36. o.... ....

When he had the crack habit.

  37. a.... ....

thankgod i missed this period of alice cooper, saw him in 71 when i was 15 then lost track to later years,,,,,,,i really don't like this look at all

    a.... ....

If you're seeking Cooper for a "Look", then you'll never get "The Coop".

    a.... ....

alwayssme I’m so many way as heartbreaking as it is to see him so broken, it’s such a testimony to how far God has brought him! So in that way, I love these videos. What a testimony! He is doing so well now!

  38. S.... ....

    Man he looks terrible. Wow.

  39. R.... R....

One of the most underrated and lost albums of his or anyone's career. A great album.

  40. P.... U....

Not one of his better known songs but a damn good one and one of my AC favourites. Yes, it deserved to be a hit, like so many of his other songs. There are not enough people in the world with good taste.

    P.... U....

Patrick UK I was soo happy when he brought it back last year for the spend the night with alice cooper tour . I saw it twice it was epic. Both times front row .

  41. a.... ....

Thank you for posting this incredible video. The intensity of his performance, his expressions are unsurpassed.Only a human with true knowledge of pain could deliver it's horror with such grace.
Also check " pain" performed in the Capitol in 1981. Unrivalled clarity and power in all aspects, lyrics, melody, and rhythm. I was so chuffed to see him perform this song in Dublin, this autumn.
    Thank you Master Cooper!

  42. M.... T....

One of the best of his '80s albums. Weird, low-production video, but great song.

  43. B.... T....

Yep I get it I kno it to well

  44. C.... H....

They played this live as well as the world needs guts when I saw them recently. Best surprise ever ❤ This deserved to be a huge hit.

    C.... H....

Courtney Harrison same here , I couldn't believe it . Two of my favorite alice songs and I got to see them live twice 😍

  45. J.... G....

    I love this song !

  46. R.... S....

Play it on the concert in Vienna
Absolutely amazing what a ..... great song
    Love Alice since im 14
    Thanks for this great song

  47. J.... H....

Under rated song and now playing it live recently Good to change it around!

  48. A.... M....

I'm gonna have to explore this chapter of his life for myself. It is a disturbing statement of how far down the rabbit hole he had gone.

    A.... M....

Those were his Black out years as he said him self ,But I think they were his BEST.

  49. A.... C....

Alice is in my opinion the best thing to ever walk on this earth. God father of shock rock

  50. J.... A....

    im pain!!!! im your pain!!!!

  51. d.... ....

best Alice Cooper song EVER. Love it. Thanks for the video

  52. R.... ....

Sometimes Alice is the Alice that I like. His gestures in this are priceless. If pain had a face, and that attitude of indignant grace. Is what it is and then some. All night -tonight. That's a pretty creepy line. I like when he goes full on into character, no restraint. The only Alice I want to see.

    R.... ....

He has said that now he takes an hour to get totally into the Alice charactor ,performs and then goes back into his Vincent personality after he performs. As opposed to the days that he stayed in Alice charactor all the time, which led him to his alcoho(sp?)l and cocane problems.

  53. M.... ....

Great song! Thanks for sharing the video.

  55. C.... E....

Should of been a huge hit. I love the lyrics they're among his best

    C.... E....

A good line which he didn't use though would've been "I'm the grinding anguish in the codgers bones".

    C.... E....

    @Glen Callahan dude, really?

    C.... E....

Amen, Mr. Eastwood. Couldn't agree more.

Grew up on this album, 1/2 of it should have been all over the radio then and STILL getting played on classic rock stations in between AC DC and Tom Petty the past 4 decades. lol

Brother, you keep bringin that truth in watever wordz you wanna. Mr. callahan and his keyboard nazis might learn a few things. Like

1 Good folks who don't talk 'n type perfekt all the tiime are more fun and way more saferer and healthy to be around than those who think they should correct someone when they ain't even been asked and should be mindin their own bidness

2 People doin stuff like that are the point of some of coop's lyrics in this very song! lol

    and

3 Mr callahan needs to go re-partake in the vids he posted on his channel about peace, harmony, enjoyment and freewill.

It's hilarious, ironic AND seriously misguided that someone with a bunch of religious and spirituality videos on their channel felt the need to come to song A GODFATHER OF POLITICAL INCORRECTNESS wrote about PAIN just to correct a HAPPY fan expressing three whole count 'em POSITIVE thoughts in about TWELVE plain inglish WORDZ!! lol

This is probably exactly why coop penned in Clones right before Pain:

    "I'm through doctor.
    We don't need your kind.
    The other ones.
    Ugly ones.
    Stupid boys.
    Wrong ones."

"We're all clones. All are one and one are all."

"Six is having trouble adjusting to his clone status,
Have to put him on a shelf.
All day long, hear him crying so loud...I just wanna be myself, I just wanna be myself, be myself, be myself, be myself."

Hmmm... all these years later maybe there's a pattern... Maybe folks who feel the need to disrupt someone's happiness to correct that person's grammar for their own self-aggrandizement is EXACTLY why coop followed a song about trying make humans Clones immediately with a song about Pain. lol

What a great album. Rock on brother! ;)

  56. t.... ....

Manson borrowed(stole) from this period of Alice.

    t.... ....

He borrowed(stole) from any period of Alice.

  57. b.... ....

This guy is an amazing songwriter. Like, he really is good. Not just the world's most influential gore glam rocker and creator of punk rock itself. He really is a fucking amazing songwriter.

    b.... ....

Heresy jonny rotten from the sex pistols hailed alice as his hero and said that his music and lyrics inspired the sex pistols his attitude and fashion or lack of.. in the early 70's inspired him.

    b.... ....

Toecutter 666 yeah, so he was the inspiration to some punk artists doesn't mean he is the creator of it though...

    b.... ....

Heresy i never said he was.. i just know he inspired johnny rotten before he was in the sex pistols

    b.... ....

    bartlettandbosc hi alice

    b.... ....

@Heresy Maybe not THE creator, but the Sex Pistols were big fans.

  62. S.... F....

    Too kool!!!

  63. T.... M....

I think I saw this once in the US!

    T.... M....

The Monkees Archives I don't think it ever aired in the US, it's taken from a French TV special

    T.... M....

Exactement ! c'est extrait d'un show télé de 1982. Une époque ou l'on écoutait autre chose que de la merde à la télé française.
Alice Cooper pendant plus d'une heure à la télé en seconde partie de soirée, c'était un vrai bonheur !!!
Exactly! It is extracted from a TV show of 1982. A time(period) when we looked at something else than some shit at the French TV.
Alice Cooper during more than one hour on the TV in evening second part, it was a real happiness!!!
