Cooper, Alice - Generation Landslide Lyrics

Please clean your plate, dear, The lord above can see ya
Don't you know people are starving in Korea?
Alcohol and razorblades and poison and needles
Kindergarten people, they used 'em they need 'em
The over- indulgent machines were their children
There wasn't a way down on earth here to cool 'em
'Cause they looked just like humans at Kresges and Woolworth
But decadent brains were at work to destroy
Brats in battalions were ruling the streets saying
"Generation Landslide close the gap between 'em"
And I laugh to myself every man and the ladies dies
Who never conceived of those billions dollar babies

Militant mothers, hiding in the basement
Using pots and pans as their shields and their helmets
Molotov milk bottles heaved from pink high-chairs
While mothers limp burned, birth certificate papers
Dad gets allowance from his sonny the dealer
Who's pubic to the world, but involved in high finance
Sister's out 'til five doing banker's son's hours
But she owns a Maserati, that's a gift from his father
Stop at full speed at one hundred miles per hour
The Colgate invisible shield finally got 'em
And I laugh to myself every man and the ladies
Who never could see those billion dollar babies

Cooper, Alice Generation Landslide Comments
  1. K.... M....

This song is highly pertinent today as much as ever. Wished he'd dip into his haversack of songs and play this suckah live! Really rip it up!!

  2. U.... E....

Again, this record is brilliant and the Alice Cooper Band can thank Bob Ezrin for that as he did an amazing job putting this record together. Great great great work by Bob Ezrin who produced the album Billion Dollar Babies.

  3. J.... B....

The over-indulgent machines were there children! There wasn't a way down on Earth to cool them! Wow that's heavy!

  4. J.... B....

This is one of the greatest Alice Cooper songs of all time it really does tell a story like human beings made machines that they couldn't cool off! Nuclear? It's really about 2019! To me! Listen to the lyrics what do you think?

  5. A.... L....

Not one of the albums better tracks (imo), but still pretty damn good. Definitely trying to sound like The Who on this one. It even has the "won't get fooled again" riff. They were going for an anthemic Who vibe. I do like this song though.

  6. t.... ....

Possibly my favorite Alice Cooper song. And what just hit me now, the acoustic guitars, harmonica and the nasal, half spoken vocal and social commentary lyrics, he's doing a sort of deranged, early 1970s take on Bob Dylan.

  7. H.... F....

Great song. The note at 3:35 to kick off the guitar break …. awesome.

  8. R.... Y....

GREAT . One of the best albums EVER!!

  9. J.... B....

Stop At Fullspeed! At One Hundred miles per!!! Wow! (Ok America !! Its the CIA BABY!!!!!

On October 28 2019 past 10 am I heard a cool song with ass kicking harmonica..I heard it on KWPT 100.3 FM Humboldt county.. I emailed the station and the response was but not sure....this song was different.. the next song was " Black Betty"...No Carol....this doesn't sound like the song... Sounded like Alvin Lee singing... the playlist on KWPT .. something's wrong with the playlist..it changes in 2 seconds to another playlist.....can anyone help here????

  13. f.... ....

    This one never gets old.

  14. M.... B....

Trust Fund babies in So Cal getting wiped out every weekend. Been going on for decades now.

  15. J.... B....

I once did some college radio I played this song a lot? It's one of Alice's best! What do you think? It's 2019!

  16. k.... s....

    Generation landslide was very cool
Generation outrage that we have today sucks

  17. J.... B....

Everybody listen! Doesn't this describe the state of the world in 2019 2020?they made machines on Earth but they couldn't cool them! Wow that's prolific!

  26. M.... M....

  27. j.... n....

alice coopers best tune of all time. CLOSE THE GAP BETWEEN EM

  28. b.... r....

1969-1973 WERE THE BEST YEARS FOR MUSIC. ALICE COOPER CAME ALONG JUST IN TIME TO MAKE SICK ROCK POPULAR. HE OPEN THE DOORS FOR A LOT OF PERFORMERS.THIS IS ONE OF HIS VERY BEST. THANKS FOR PLAYING.

  29. R.... N....

    Alice Coopers Sgt Peppers album.

  30. N.... B....

Check out the song “Unfinished Sweet” from the same album. Alice was deranged before deranged was a “thing”. Lol.

  31. S.... S....

Colgate Invisible Shield and Certs with Retsyn great 70's commercial memories. To the metrosexuals who voted thumbs down , Go Back to the JUSTIN BEIBER CHANNEL. You don;t deserve to listen to Alice!

  32. j.... s....

.....AWWW, Detroit, ..the Liverpool of America, only a hellava lot more grittier....a Great place to grow up in the 60's, to get a well balanced rock n roll influence from Blues, Motown, Mississippi Delta, Gut Driven Rock, ..it ALL came at you at once in one big Meteor Driven Blast! ..what a GREAT TIME it was!!!

  33. s.... ....

I remind him as good music.

  34. p.... d....

after alice fired the babbies i fadded from him.he fired the best for profit. and never was as good.

    p.... d....

To be fair, the last LP with the original band isn't very good.

    p.... d....

Not comparing the two but david bowie did same trick.Musta been the acid.

  35. d.... p....

    great album

  36. J.... H....

My friends at the time of this album had a contest to see who could memorize the lyrics of this album first. Needless to say, I won.

  37. P.... Y....

Dog Town and Z-Boys gave me this song. Out of all the tunes in the documentary, this was firmly stuck in my head. I went out and bought this album the next day.

    P.... Y....

Been listening to Rock and Roll since the late 60s. I never heard of this song until I watched Dog Town and the Z-Boys myself. I always wondered why it wasn't a big hit when it came out.

  38. B.... M....

This is probably my favorite song he did. I don't care for this album as much as others, but man this song is just wow.

  39. B.... 7....

    L.... W....

    Shut the fuck up clown

  58. m.... s....

a few generations of women showing us who really wears the pants. that's what last night's election was. and it's about fucking time. i don't think Alice had that in mind on Billion Dollar Babies! or those lyrics, but it is the first thing i thought of: la, dot, da, da, daah...! 😜

    m.... s....

The lyrics are about elitist white rich Antifa cucks like you hiding under ladies skirts eating soy.

    m.... s....

@WorstVikingEver lmao get a load of this guy

  59. r.... ....

The good old days, pot was cheap, beer was cheaper, acid had 1200 mics+. Pre-ghetto blasters when this song came out. So me and my friends would hoop it up down at the beach and yodel this song at full volume. I guess now it would be called cappella.....

  60. d.... t....

ThankYou, Alice C at Culture Commentary Protest Best. We Still got a Long way to go.

  61. T.... E....

Just saw em last night killer show!!

  62. A.... J....

Probably one of the best produced albums ever!!
Those guys were talented and slick.

    A.... J....

Very true, 100 % honest, still LEAST as good today.
I consider this band up til -76 as maybe the best ever.
Heck there is 5-6 albums in a row, and not one song is a let down - quality.

    A.... J....

    Talented and sick!

  63. R.... S....

    Kresge's and Woolworth's?

Wow, that brings back the memories.

    R.... S....

Now the line in the song would mention "Walmart and Target."

  64. j.... ....

turned up in a 70 GTX cid 383, with Craegers

    j.... ....

Listened to this myself in a 70 Superbee 440 4 speed with centerlines.

    j.... ....

Had it cranked in my '69 Roadrunner 383 4 speed, with speakers in the door panels and Jenson tri-axles out back. And ran the cragars on mine too.

  65. j.... ....

a picture of the USA in 1973

    j.... ....

    I was 14 it wasn't so bad

  66. j.... ....

    the lead kicks ass..Buxton, Bruce...strats

    j.... ....

No, Gibson SGs actually. Neither Glen or Michael used Strats at any known point in their careers, although Glen did use a Fender Mustang a for a little while after leaving Alice Cooper.

The two guitars you're hearing is Glen's 1968 Cream White 3 pickup Gibson SG Custom with a Bigsby B5 Tremelo and Michael's Heritage Cherry 1969 Gibson SG Standard.

On tour for this album however, Glen often switched over to a Gretsch Duo Jet and a 1960 Gibson Les Paul SG Custom with a Maestro tremelo and Michael stuck with the same guitar he recorded on, the Heritage Cherry 1969 Gibson SG Standard

    j.... ....

It's neither of them, I think it's Dick Wagner playing lead.

    j.... ....

@NuclearHendrix You are absolutely correct. When you listen to the outro it's definitely not Glen's style. And, Wagner played live with them (he was kinda hidden behind the drum riser) on this tour.

    j.... ....

Wonder what Alice thinks about the billion dollar baby in the white house?

    b.... b....

He's loaded your not he's sober he's the nuts making all you look sick

    b.... b....

Understand the man and you will understand the music

    b.... b....

There's always that one snowflake that has to make it political. Dick.

    b.... b....

@phoenixstl1 The whole song is political and heavily coded. Who were the "decadent brains"? ;)

    b.... b....

A rough paraphrase of Alice's politics. (If you look hard enough for the actual quote, you will find it).

Musician's, actor's and artists should keep their political views to themselves.

  68. J.... K....

what is this? degeneracy and cultural decline brought in by the under-parented kids of wealthy people? (Boomers XDD) still trying to figure it out.....

    J.... K....

    Lighten up

    J.... K....

@suesan629 - and you though I was over thinking this song! Check out Blakenstenia1 explanation of it!! XDDDDDDD

    J.... K....

No not over thinking at all as a matter of fact .... the opposite....... I mean like that is just instant .... and to add to it,, well its kind of complicated ,,, and yet simple.....ill not say more ,, unless you question the obvious ,, and I see that nobody has questioned a fact that should be the first stated .....   oh, by the way,,,,, billion dollar babies is only one of the issues in the song ,  in other words   "" and oh yes there is also the billion dollar babies  ""

    J.... K....

    Suck a dick

    J.... K....

    Keep trying junior

  71. K.... ....

Best song he ever did, wish it would stay up on the t00b

    K.... ....

Agreed, their best song of all their greats. The guitar solo at the end still gets me 40 years after I bought the lp as a kid. You talking about the fan vid with the old toy commercials and Cold War propaganda footage? Greatest vid ever, fits the song to a tee.

  72. D.... N....

The song that defines the album Billion dollar babies in my opinion

    D.... N....

Definitely one of AC's "heavies." I wish the ending had been longer.

    D.... N....

this song should've been called Billion Dollar Babies, and BDB's should've been called, ..well,..MUZAK

    D.... N....

    It is ok

    D.... N....

@joe szymanski I love Billion Dollar Babies. Probably my favorite Alice track of the 70s.

    D.... N....

@Rene Jansen my sentiments exactly... It's just ok. Not one of the better tracks on BDB. it sure as hell ain't even half as good as the title track
