I LOVE Sam Cooke's voice, but I'm afraid I find Freddie Mercury's version better.

I heard people say that this wasn't Sam's song because the Planters did it first but all I have to say to them is to just listen and once you finish tell me you weren't touched by his rendition of the song and once again I say thank you for this moment and the journey back in time to a place that no one else can take me and make me feel like this but this was just one of the many talents he was blessed with and so are we and for that I say thank you.

Here's a little music history sam was offered a song called traveling man but through it in the trash a young man buy the name of ricky nelson was in the studio when he heard sam listening to the demo he asked if he can record the song and Sam's manager gave rick the demo and the rest is history.

Cannot believe at 68yo, this year is the first time I recall hearing this rendition tears. Was He singing about himself? RIP Great Man!

When I hear Sam Cooke, I remember a cousin of mine who had the same voice as Sam.
He once had a group in Cleveland Ohio called the WIGS" Right!!! back in the 60's. Check it out, google it! RIP James

There's only one "the best" and in my opinion it is Sam Cooke. I don't go a single day without listening to him and or The Soul Stirrers. Heaven on earth.

The most comfortable version I have ever listened; very soft, makes me want to pretend a little more.

Sam's version is beautiful and so heartfelt.  I love the man!  I sometimes wished he had stayed with the Soul Stirrers. bit he had to follow his dreams.
