Cooder, Ry - Get Rhythm Lyrics
Get rhythm when you get the blues
Hey, get rhythm when you get the blues
Get a rock 'n' roll feelin' in your bones
Get taps on your toes and just get gone
Get rhythm when you get the blues
Little shoeshine boy never gets low down
But he's got the dirtiest job in town
Bendin' low at the peoples' feet
On the windy corner of the dirty street
Well, I asked him while he shined my shoes
How'd he keep from gettin' the blues
He grinned as he shook his little head
Popped a shoeshine rag and then he said
Get rhythm when you get the blues
It only costs a dime, just a nickel a shoe
Does a million dollars worth of good for you
Get rhythm when you get the blues
Well, I started to listen to the shoeshine boy
And I thought I was gonna jump for joy
Slapped on the shoe polish left and right
He took a shoeshine rag and he held it tight
He stopped once to wipe the sweat away
I said you're a mighty little boy to be a-workin' that way
He said "I like it", with a big wide grin
And he kept on poppin' and he said again
Hey, get rhythm when you get the blues
Hey, get rhythm when you get the blues
Yes a jumpy rhythm makes you feel so fine
It shakes all the trouble from your worried mind
Get rhythm when you get the blues
Get rhythm when you get the blues
Get rhythm when you get the blues
Get a rock 'n' roll feelin' in your bones
Get taps on your toes and get gone
Get rhythm when you get the blues

Cooder, Ry Get Rhythm Comments
I had the good luck to see Ry several times. Some of the best were with just Ry and the other master guitar slinger Mr. Dave, David Lindley. Now I've played guitar for half my life. Pretty good too. But even with all the times, I've seen this guy, I don't have the faintest idea how the hell he does these things! That's why he is my absolute favorite., only he can do this stuff!!! I've watched him with field glasses and it is so far above me, I feel like an ant compared to this man. The guitar solo on this is so unbelievably fabulous it is transcendent. We may think we're cool, but we will NEVER be this cool!
Vibrato on the guitar playing sounds more like David Lindleys style.
I always thought Ry Cooder was a euphemism for a yeast infection.

All the people on the stage are world class including Harry Dean Stanton
3.57 of sheer genius.
Raise the dead Cooder at his finest. Wow. A million wows.
Gotta love it Always Ry !
..love this music......
God, when music was good!
master musicians and a super set of back up singers, utterly brilliant live too. Ry on a slide is a wonderful thing, his Film Soundtracks are haunting as well. and thanks Harry Dean Stanton
Ry's playing at his finest – but it's really Harry Dean Stanton who steals the show here. How he can get so much emotion and expression into such a small part... just proves what a fine actor he was.
One of my all time favorite music videos. This is so great on so many levels, Ry you da man! He is a musical genius, every strange alley he turns down has gold at the end of it. Check out his new album it is tremendous.
There is also the backing vocal by Larry Blackmon of Cameo, who i could almost swear i saw in a glimpse on the video...
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ry Cooder is a genius and just to make it completely unfair he gets an all world band together
I heard the original with Johnny Cash once. That's why I always play this with Ry Cooder!
I can't stop watching this. Ry smoking, Harry Dean Stanton ultimate cool. It sure does not get any better than this anywhere, anyway.
Perfect in every way. I heard it was directed by Wim Wenders
Best Music-video ever.

this is MUSIC not the crap on the radio ..
When we were living in the Netherlands in 1978, it got a lot of airplay and the video was shown frequently . I don't know that the Dutch or the Brits got all the ironies of the video, or even that it was a Johnny Cash song.
@Sally Claire Wentworth 1987 ? :)
@Sally Claire Wentworth Sally, yes the Dutch, Brits, Irish and Danes, etc. definitely "get all of the ironies" of the video. It's just us brain-dead yanks that don't cop-on!
(so says one of HDS's fellow Kentuckians!)
still magic after all the time & space
This video produced by Michelle Manning, directed by David Fincher, cinematography by Jack Wallner, not sure who edited it.
Happy birthday Ry and many more :)
luv this version, Ry's guitaring is just brilliant.
Just brilliant!
Love this vid. Ry and the boys at their best !
