Conway Twitty - Long Black Train Lyrics

Look a-yonder coming, coming down that railroad track.
I said, Look a-yonder coming
Coming down that long railroad track
Well, it's that long black train
Gonna bring my baby back.

Well, she loved me in the winter
Lord, I almost froze to death
She didn't even warm me
She's a fact of frozen lips.

My baby hit the road a-running
Looking for that long black train
(That long black train)
Lord, and I began to wonder
Will I see that girl again
(If I see my girl again).

Well, I don't know why she left me
But I do know that she's gone
But look a-yonder coming Lord
My baby's coming home.

I said, now look a-yonder coming
Coming down that long railroad track
(That long railroad track)
Well, it's that long black train
Gonna bring my baby back
(Gonna bring my baby back).

Well, ain't asking her no questions
'Cause I don't care where she's been
And when I get that woman back
She'll never leave again.

I said, now look a-yonder coming
Coming down that long railroad track
(That long railroad track)
Well, it's that long black train
Gonna bring my baby back
(Gonna bring my baby back).

Well, I can see her black smoke rollin'
I can hear her whistle whine
She's just around the curve
She's moving fast that line on down.

I said, now look a-yonder coming
Coming down that long railroad track
(That long railroad track)
Yes, it's that long black train
Gonna bring my baby back
(Gonna bring my baby back)
(Gonna bring my baby back)
(That long black train, Lord)
(That long black train, Lord)
(That long black train, Lord)
(That long black train, Lord)...

Conway Twitty Long Black Train Comments
  1. I.... ....

Now you know where Elvis stole his sound !

  2. C.... B....

    Jesus saves

  3. D.... K....

Mystery train by Elvis combined with orange blossom special by Johnny very similar lyric and tone, the sound and rhythm in this is killer.

  4. s.... ....

Não foi desta música que Josh Turner se inspirou para escrever sua canção do mesmo título, embora fosse baseada em uma visão, dada a ele por Deus?

  5. D.... M....

Yeah, hello modern country music? Can you just not? Cause this. Yeah thanks.

I often wonder due to strong censorship during the 1950's if we actually heard the best of the music from the artists of that time. The Rock era was sanitised by the establishment which took a good few years but they eventually cleaned up Rock'n'roll. If the sensors of that time had been more lenient toward rock'n'roll music of the 50's, I wonder if we would have seen the same impact from the music explosion of the 1960's. We'll never know for certain, but I bet there's still some real gems out there waiting to be discovered from that era which was sadly shelved due to narrow mindedness.

It wasn't the censorship, it was the New York music establishment and...it's eternal payola machine...backed by organized crime (who do you think was Alan Freed's partner?) It was also a long held and deeply engrained view in major parts of music which either looked down on or were directly hostile to Southerners. A lot of the recording industry leaders and publishing execs came up in the Jazzage and we're at best dismissive of again we're directly hostile to any blues based music

When I first heard this track I was totally blown away, I always liked Conway
Twitty 's music but this song is special. Wish I'd lived during the 50's it must have been something.

  8. G.... M....

Although derivative of Elvis's Mystery Train, Conway proves his feel for Rockabilly on this track and many others. He later switched to Country later in his career. Brilliant guitar work on this !

  9. T.... N....

Where are you finding solid evidence that he was in adult films? I can't find anything about that.

  10. M.... K....

This sounds more like Elvis than the Elvis impersonator.

  11. R.... M....

He never received the entertainer of the year because of the type of songs he recorded , but the public was crazy about him . One of his older rock songs , Is The Blue Bird Blue .

  12. R.... M....

Until George Strait , Conway hag more no. 1 hits than anyone .

  13. T.... ....

great song awesome just to good love this song

  14. P.... W....

Is that Conway on the lead guitar work?

    P.... W....

@Paul White Wayne RUSSELL said it was a guy named Al BRUNO on lead guitar.......

    P.... W....

+Dominique FARAUT Conway was right up there with Elvis is no doubt about it

  15. G.... v....

    Fantastic !

  16. M.... G....

Just because he starred in two pornographic films doesn't make him any less than what he was. If he even did. I'm 17 and I love Conway and his music. I do think he was better than Elvis. I'm not really fond of Elvis. But it was because of him that Conway came to Nashville after the Army. So we can thank him for that much.

    M.... G....

    Wait what?! conway did porn?!?

  17. A.... E....

Anyone know where to find the tabs for this?

  18. k.... ....

Lucas...if you find them movies...I WANT THEM! We all have skeletons now don't we?

  19. L.... S....

I don't know about that.. Elvis was The King. (Random Fact: Did you know that Conway Twitty starred in two pornographic movies?)

    L.... S....

Lucas Shepherd DID YOU KNOW JERRY LEE LEWIS WAS THE FIRST INDUCTEE INTO THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME? THE KING OF ROCK AND ROLL. NEVER DID PORN AND KNOWS THE BIBLE CHAPTER AND VERSE. JUST THOUGHT YOU SHOULD KNOW.

  20. S.... ....

Conway was great. Elvis was great. Get your head out of your butt. Both were great.

  21. s.... ....

    Yeah Baby!

  22. m.... ....

    Grady Martin on lead guitar.

  23. e.... ....

These adverts give me the shits!!!!

  24. J.... S....

@justinge999 well, besides strait. i still see conway as #1 tho.

  25. J.... S....

COOL MAN COOL VERY GOOD INDEED

  26. j.... ....

@ez7778 Twitty had more #1 hits than anyone ever in country music... So fuck off if you think Conway had no impact.

  27. D.... B....

Sam Phillips released Elvis' Mystery Train in 1955 on the Sun Records Label. Conway borrowed alot from Elvis' Mystery Train when he recorded Long Black Train 5 years after Mystery Train. Elvis was the true innovator when you compare both artist.

    D.... B....

Duane Beard ELVIS WAS NOT AN INNOVATER, NOR A MUSICIAN. HE WAS A PACKAGED PRODUCT. DID HE EVER GET INDUCTED INTO THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME? JERRY LEE LEWIS WAS THE VERY FIRST, AND I NEVER CHECKED THE LIST AFTER THE KING GOT HIS DUE.

  28. K.... B....

Twitty was stumpy looking and had virtually no stage charisma, especially compared to Presley. Presley had more of a raw edge (in his early music) while Twitty was adequate but pedestrian. They ended up just where they should have: Presley, The Legend; Twitty, Who?

  29. C.... ....

He had more talent in his little finger than Elvis did in his whole body. And was a true gentleman in every aspect of his life. RIP Harold Lloyd Jenkins, your music lives on....:-)

    C.... ....

    No he didn't

  30. N.... ....

    excellent x

  31. R.... S....

hate to tell ya this but Conway had more number one hits than ANYONE in any style of music till a few years ago... and it was taken by George Strait ... even more than ELVIS..

  32. C.... G....

No dissrespect, But see no reason why this couldnt have made him the king , and not Elvis. Just as rockin as anything else during this time. Awsome tune

  33. k.... ....

i dont know why but this reminds me of Togas-Bar The Door (Fuzz Mover) (+4) lol

  34. r.... ....

@VilquinProductions it's such a great riff though, why wouldn't you want to use it? kudos to scotty moore for coming up with such a classic sound, and god bless elvis and conway... two of the coolest cats to ever sing rockabilly!

  35. V.... B....

Wow! Almost the King! I had this one in the early 60s!

    V.... B....

    VICTOR BALIT okyes

  36. V.... ....

Trains and rockabilly are a natural combination! Nice beat! Even though the guitar riffs are being ripped from Elvis's "Mystery Train". Thsnx fur sharin'! 5 thumbs up!

  37. b.... ....

WOW! I have this on some compilation but it was loooong time since I heard it. Just great! Tnx markowee.
