Contortionist, The - Oscillator Lyrics
This is passion personified into a rage
That is ripping and tearing at my body and soul,
Thus leaving me weak.
I've had just about all I can take; this is driving me mad.
Watching the blood drop from your chest and into my hands.
This feels so incomplete without holding your still-beating heart in my hands.
The game has changed, from which we cannot return.
I'll watch you suffer and enjoy every moment of it.

first part doesnt fit with second at all but the second sounds so extremely beautiful
2:19 is when i start to cry my eyes out 😂😂😭
I've always loved this band but the progression from 1:33 and on gets me everytime<3
Best song to listen to while on psychedelics. The whole time I thought they literally captured what the empty void of space sounded like. So fucking good.
I didn't new that they played at download 2017, so catched them at this song ending. Sad, but it made my day.
most underrated djent period
Gives me chills everytime
Other than any pink Floyd or misery signals song... this the only other to bring me to an emotional breakdown. Kudos gents!
Those pinch harmonics in the beginning are so dope
Is nobody going to mention 4:21? Fucking *beautiful*.
I dunno why, but 4:21 onwards brings a tear to my eyes, something about that melody, its just perfect
I much prefer the softer Contortionist in Language, i feel like the death core parts lack in comparison here (coming from a some what newer Contortionist fan)
TundraL5Z "coming from a somewhat newer contortionist fan"
That explains it. You probably don't listen to a lot of death metal or progressive metal.
Saw them live a couple of days ago. Michael Lessard OWNED this song. Reaaallly impressive.
This entire song is just a profound masterpiece
Anyone know some bands or songs that sound like 2 minutes and after?
Giraffeasaur N. northlane - Quantum Flux
nothing speaks to my soul more than that 2:20 mark and on.
Fueling my insomnia with a brilliant song...
0:17 chocolate rain, of a candy bar!!!
dammit... can never unhear now
ahahahahha fuckkkk me
History quickly passing through your veins
Chocolate raaaaaaaaiiiiiinnnna
The ending to this song is out of this world. It takes me to a whole new place.
Exactly so much Ambience
lol literally the entire album is about “going to a new place”
The emotional release of 3:50 is overwhelming.
I'm the only one who likes the beginning of the song?
+OnImpulse nah, i do too fam. I think it's the contrast between parts that makes it such a good song, and a great band.
The beginning is great too, but just the build throughout and then the climax are just so amazing. Such good songwriting
if this comment can get 4 likes ill put my cat to sleep
+Bruce Johnson what if i give u 4 dislikes ?
+Ratul Mehra 2 months late bud
+Bruce Johnson but u had only 3 likes when i replied
Did he sleep?
wicked breakdowns and transitions
The whole song (hell the whole album) is a piece of art, but that part between 1:30-2:20...its just some of the best music ever written.
I wish the part at 1:57-2:04 lasted longer
the 2nd half of this song is an absolute masterpiece
+Bruce Johnson I did! =D
+The Saturn Life The first part make you enjoy the second one even more.
+The Saturn Life if you play 7 string guitar I recommend you learn it, it's quite a simple little riff which is awesome considering how beautiful it sounds
Goosebumps all over dude, that outro sends chills up my spine
It almost brought me to tears man. Unreal
this song just rattles my sphincter to the core. beautiful blend of deathcore and proggy undertones its sad they've moved away from this sound I love this band so fucking much
@cody mason
I agree man, they still kick ass but i love this proggy deathdjent ambient-core haha
But Language is still amazing!
+GetScaredGaming Oh for sure man I love the stuff they have made since this but this song in particular just the sonic and aural display laid before us is breath taking
The second half ambient part in combination with the album artwork is perfect
+luke bailey Word!
I just saw these guys here in boise last week with animals as leaders and between the buried and me. This was the only older song they played (New vocalist) but I actually got teared up it was so incredible. It's amazing to see a song written about the facts of life around the universe
Duuuude I saw them in Atlanta with Skyharbor,ERRA and Tesseract(left before Tesseract played don't care too much for them but the other 3 killed it)and they played Flourish live I almost cried bro.
+Rusty Shackleford
woops, I lied. it was flourish that they played, not oscillator. and I did get choked up and almost cried. Erra actually replaced the contortionist's place as my favorite band, I will go all the way and cry ,I think, when I finally get to see them. what a line-up tho, aside from tesseract.
when they played flourish here, the vocalist was one count behind the timing on every word, so every line he screamed was a little late. it made it even more suspensful somehow. did u know there are three versions of this song? I found an old ep version recently (im guessing its just an older version anyway). completely different lyrics, same song.
the last half reminds of something from maybeshewill or another post-rock band
Same. It actually reminds me of This Will Destroy You a lot
Pure epic, saw them live and when they finished with this the place went nuts
One of my favorite Metal songs
the 2nd half part of the song is the sound that my ears were longing for..very appealing.
that ending is godly
One of the most beautiful songs ever written
Cut out the first 1:40 and its a great song, one the of best things I have ever heard but theres just too much of a contrast between the two parts! I love brutality just as much as the next guy but pick a side!
Have you ever heard of DeathCore before ?
Welcome to progressive music, sir.
@MrMastablasta117 You realize it's the contrast that makes it so beautiful, right?
The contrast you mentioned is where the true talent is displayed. I do agree though, I wish they had devoted a whole album to the epicness of the second half of the song
+MrMastablasta117 The contrast is why they are called "The Contortionist", which is one of those performers with extreme flexibility. Personally thats why I find them so appealing in the first place
lol "screaming requires no talent at all" you obviously have never screamed in your life
pretty much one the most amazing songs ever period
The Contortionist really knows how to play. My favorite Deathcore band. They are nothing like any other ill tell you that.
Once you start getting into the more "progressive" stuff it's a little more common (Last Chance to Reason comes to mind), but these guys are still in a league of their own.
I just discovered this band... Just love the blending of multiple genres... It's like they take the best of every style they try and blend it into something great.
Was just going to write on this comment and saw yours. Hahah. They are still better then ever!
The metal is essentially gone. They're completely soft now.
end bringer they're definitely still amazing though.
Yeah I love it! Best fucking sleep!
Yes you are :)
I love this sound of "science metal" coming from The Contortionist and Scar Symmetry. Really amazing music.
yes.... yes you are
I'm so happy they don't make music like this anymore and have joined the prog metal club :]
Same here still....
Sleeping like a little baby.
This is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.
So good
Lol. On youtube @480p :D
joke :)
aw, hater! unfortunately, i have seen some evidence to back up your claim, but real longboarders are far from that. Check out Liam Morgan, Carl Knight, Kyle Reynolds or Patrick Switzer and let me know if you still think it's gay. At least you have awesome taste in music!
i'd like to give you a thumbs up but longboarding is gay
why have I never heard of these guys before? This is amazing stuff. Very refreshing to find something this fucking awesome.
new grado headphones with a hifiman ef2a amp. perfection
man, that ending was amazing, so epic, good album
Yeah I listen to this, The Red Chord or Between the Buried and Me to sleep a lot. I mean I'll be entranced in it for a good hour but eventually I'll fall asleep and it's always like super peaceful, restful sleep. Plus the hour or so I spend with my eyes closed just being absorbed in it... fucking boss.
There is also the chance that they think this is as heavy/hardcore/br00tal (however you want to say it) that music gets and they think that they are super tough for listening to this while falling asleep. I can't listen to this when i'm falling asleep because it makes me think too much. I listen to it when i go longboarding. This and Cloudkicker give me inspiration
shoulda strapped specimen jars to my head.. headphones = ruined.
Amazing band, amazing vocals, sik transitions. 3 this fucking song \m/
In Michigan tonight Andromeda is showing off and Venus is bright as day. I'm staring at the Andromeda cloud through a toilet paper tube, with this song so fucking loud that my earphones are about to explode.
If you think Earth is beautiful, look up.
juuicy JJJJJJJ
I know that feel, bro. It truly is great music.
its the second one. and i still listen to this stuff often and when going to bed
The way I see it, there are two possible explanations for that statement:
1. You find music like this boring, so when you have an insomnia attack, you fall asleep to this.
2. The music is so atmospheric and proggy that it drones out everything and puts you in a trance
I sure hope it's the latter
hell yeah, i was there too. when they came back for summer slaughter, shit went crazy. seemed like metalfest got them the exposure in this area to truly build a solid fan base for shows.
@Adam Kenney It was such a fabulous show. The lights were perfect for this song. What do you think of the new album ?
Yodeling!
I was there!
You are gonna burn in hell for this, saying this song is all about screaming is the highest state of hypocrisy. This song is one of the most awesome masterpieces of modern music, you just dont get it cause youre so ignorant apparently. I hope you wont ever find happiness in your life, and all the people around you will hate you for what a bad person you are ;)
say it ti spit it out and wait and bleed!
Or he has his own opinion.
You can't even aspire to sing better than this guy, give it a try one day, it's not just scream
Yeah i feel the same way, although the contortionist is honestly my favorite band i can still say that screaming is not a talent at all. But listen to this song starting from 2:40 if you listen from that point on and still don't like it, you're a bias bigot. Oh and with the instruments, what other vocal style would sound good with it?
anyone knows bands that only play songs like the 2:40 till the end? :)
kragothkra post-rock (tides from nebula)
It actually takes talent and practice to make a scream sound appealing.
fuck that guy who said this isnt good music. he is obviously retarded and adopted as well
metal Focuses more on the instruments and time signatures then singing. vocals are not the only thing in a song and if this song had nothing but clean singing it probably wouldn't sound as good
lol tell me about it!
these guys kicked ass at summer slaughter!
Haha we missed Abiotic :( lol
Awesome we got Abiotic but I wanted The Contortionist, I went to the Summer Slaughter in Florida. Periphery kicked ass!
What did they play? They are one of my favorite bands but I still havent seen them live :(
Not when you listen to The Contortionist, check out their new album is you haven't already, more of their material to fap to (for me at least)!
I LOVE THIS BAND FUCK!
IF YOU LIKE THIS JAM, THIS JAM IS ALSO A JAM /watch?v=Jt4YKZxe9ZI
I go to sleep to music like this..
this is a message to all metal bands like this. music is awesome so stop singing like idiots please. its not hardcore or metal or whatever its just stupid.
my grandma lost her tits to cancer so i cant hear how low it is :(
i see nothing wrong.
I've never once in my life experienced getting hard through musical stimulation. Is this unusual?
every time i listen to this album i get a chill down my spine and my cock starts to throb. anyone else feel these symptoms
Fucking amazing. Was fortunate enough to share the stage with these dudes and they destroyed us lol. The atmosphere was just incredible.
dat outro mang
If this is one of your favorite songs then why change anything about it? I am a drummer and I can tell you that even if the drum beat is simplistic, it can add more of an effect combined with the right melody than if it was more technical. When I first heard this song I also was thinking of a different drum beat, but after I listened a few more times I realized it works amazing just the way it is. Cheers man.
Everytime i listen to the song, i redo the drum part. because its so boriing and my version is way better xD
anyways, dont be a flamer and hate me, this is one of my favorite songs ever.
A lot of Contortionist songs have mediocre deathcore-style intros. If they wanna capture more people's attention, they should keep the Deathcore In the middle of the song and start with a cooler part. Still an amazing band!
if you get the chance to then deff do it
they are unlike any other band live. their cd's dont do them any justice, and their cd's are amazing haha
