Confederate Railroad - When You Leave That Way You Can Never Go Back Lyrics
I remember waking in the morning
To the sound of a rooster's crow
Mama cooking in the kitchen
And Arthur Gothrie on the radio
We never did see eye to eye
It came to blows one Sunday morning
So I packed my bags and I said goodbye
And when you leave that way you can never go back
A train won't run on a torn up track
Some times I wish I'd never roamed, oh no
'Cause when you leave that way you can never go home
Then I met a girl in Knoxville
Left her standing at the altar
With a baby on the way...
And when you leave that way you can never go back
A train won't run on a torn up track
Some times I wish I'd never roamed, oh no
'Cause when you leave that way you can never go home
Lord I'd love to see my Mom and Daddy
And what I'd give to hold that boy of mine
I'd get down on my knees and say I'm sorry
If I could only go back one more time
But I killed a man in Houston
When he caught me with his wife
And I told the preacher man to leave me alone
When he came to read my rights
And he said son
When you leave that way you can never come back
A soul won't roll on a torn up track
All through eternity you'll roam alone
'Cause when you leave that way you can never come home
All through eternity you'll roam alone
'Cause when you leave that way you can never come home

When me and dad finally fought he played me this song it hits hard
l Love your country This voice match to USA :) Greetings from Poland
This songs hits home with me DAD I am sorry love you 4 ever RIP 🐊🐾🙏🇺🇸👣 Louisiana
What a mullet..
My dad ruined our relationship with alcohol.. Thank the Good Lord for my Stepdad..
I think of this song half the time. A man disagreeing with his dad and they get into it, standing up his pregnant bride at the altar, killing a man who catches him fucking his wife, and going to prison. That's no way to live a life. There's a price to pay for that shit. Especially murdering someone for no reason. The guy in the song paid the ultimate price. And he deserved it!
I agree.. It sounds like he had good parents..he just wasnt any count.. My dad ruined our relationship with alcohol..thank the Good Lord for my Stepdad..
2:37
That escalated quickly.....
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Threw blows with my old man. Got my ass kicked. He told me I brought into this world I will take you out..

Country music will never be this real again. This song is not a joke, a real classic.

Tremendous Group Great Name!!!
Best song they had
My dad never loved me ! I still regret not talking to him for 6 years! Still regret not going to his death bed to forgive him and to tell him I loved him
You can always go back its your pride , self pity and embarrassment that make one think u cant go back family will always love you.
I think most of us, at least once in their life, has experienced exactly this.
Why are their no comments
This should have way more views who agrees???
👇

Welcome to South Carolina!
This song makes you realize that country music has not existed for that last 20 years
It's a shame that this great group is having a lot of their shows being cancelled because of their name. How stupid can people be these days?
I never hit my father but I can understand how it could happen. My father used to beat me with coiled up garden hose, an electical cord or a lariat. Whatever was available when he was angry. These memories always stay with you. At age 65 I still remember the last time he whipped me. I was laying curled up in a fetal position in the snow in the cow pen. I had my forearms over my face to protect it from the coils of lariat rope. A new approach came to my mind. He was a little heavier than before and I was more athletic than before. Perhaps I could outrun him. In my mind I can still hear the huffing and puffing behind me as he chased me. But I escaped and I remember looking back at him when he stopped running. So I yelled "Go to hell." He came to me a few hours later and verbally rebuked me for cursing him, but he never beat me again that I remember. So we really solved the problem by beating didn't we? Now we had not only an abusive father, but a rebelious son who cursed his own father as well. The thing that puzzled me was that I was a good kid. I studied hard and got good grades. My work on the farm was exemplary. And I went to church and youth group and treated the girls with respect. But I never could earn his respect or his love. I longed for his approval but I could not achieve it. When he told me he was ashamed of me sometimes my mother would step in and tell him to stop, stop. At least I knew she loved me. What saved me from ruin was school. I could acheive success and earn respect. My teachers and my mother likely saved my life. This song brings back those memories.
This is deep...
God Bless this Group Best Ever God Loves Dixie
love love love this song and the group!
I love these guys! Not offended by the name.
DU QUOIN, IL. STATE FAIR. ( YOU CAN 💋 AMERICAS WHITE AZZ ) THIS BAND DOES NOT NEED YOUR RACIST AZZ. 8-17-2019
I always loved this song. Once my life was headed in the same direction but thank god he turned me around...
Very powerful song and video.
I like the Confederate rail and I think they need to keep there name and yes if you don't like it just leave them alone
keep doing it. and thanks.
I’ve heard that the best songs tell a story, this one sure does. If your parents have passed, you know what I’m talking about. If not, call or visit and be sure to say ‘I love you’ because there’s coming a day you’ll be very glad you did.
I can't believe that we as a people are so petty as to judge someone simply by their name, let me tell you something, I was born in the 50's ,that very thing was alive then and through out most of the 60's, it was ridiculous then just as it is now, we are all of us better than that, who are we to judge, I can tell you that we are only different if you try make to make us different
In honor of Confederate Railroad and the useful idiot NeoMarxist types that banned them, I am now buying all their records.
A gem of a song..We the people back you!
Thumbs up for sticking to your guns. Don't cave in to these folks - it never makes things any better. Just do you, and the people that love you will stick around.
Confederate railroad don't ever change the name of your band because it offends others
So much emotion and stuff of life packed in to one great C&W song! These guys are good and I saw them together on the Huckabee show last night....Where did this kind of music go?
Yankee choke on grits
Cx. concert..gone time to make a point... They started it we shall finish it... I'm 60 but I'm willing to gohht got what is right...
I'm gonna sue them for my HBP... WHO IS IN CHARGE?... HANG TEM HIGH!!!!!!
Yankee no nothing about good music unless it is OPERA...
I love and support you 100%.
The fairs that are kicking these guys out it is their lost, they are a great bunch of guys and play some great music, seen them twice once years ago and again not long ago at the Linn County Fair, come back to Iowa you are welcome here.
wish I could find their CD"s
Danny's dad and my dad were friends in soddy daisy he brought a tape to my dad and asked him if he thought Danny could be a singer my dad used to tour with Jimmy Dickens and Loretta Lynn back in the day now hes in a nursing home all the way down in texas wasting away I love you dad all the way from Tennessee
choices have consequences. They chose their name and can easily change it.
Great band
Harriet Tubman gets triggered by the band’s name.
o illinois wont let them play because of there name. at the state fair! but other bands on the venue like shenandoah can say like a rebel flag flys high above it all popping in the wind like a angry cannonballl! this is the dumbest state in the union! dont ever come here if you can help it. its like a vortex for the sphincter of the planet! and i grew up with this band and THERE GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!! and so is shenandoah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If all those people don't like confederate monuments. MONUMENTS! Why don't they just stop letting the military defend them. Most of the military's best moves come from the Confederation. Robert E. Lee.
Great band.
God bless you boys!! Didnt even know yall were still playing until today with this BS about the name of your band. I'm in Detroit. You guys are great. This politically correct sewage has to stop. You may not be a fan of Kid Rock, but he has given many dollars to the great cesspool of Detroit. Had the same reaction because he had a Confererate Flag as a back drop at shows. You boys keep going!! Screw these liberal Democrats who like living for free. This country is ass backwards. Hope I said a little of what yall would like to say. Bless you
Great band and nice song but I want to know, why can't you go back? Just go, and tell them you love them. Please!!
Who's here because the 2019 Southern Illinois Fair cancelled these guys because of their Name?? This lefty PC S--t needs to Stop! https://www.savingcountrymusic.com/confederate-railroad-releases-statement-about-state-fair-cancellation/comment-page-1/#comment-1084600
i love Confederate Railroad and i love the name of the band so who ever is Offended by the name you can just get out of our country and I'll help you pack
Amen Timmy Amen
I’ll love to help any pack to, if you don’t love our country or respect or history than you can shove that dildo back up your ass
Greg Whittington he’s a federal agent trying to sway young Americans opinions he’s one of many brother fuck him
@Ace Degenerate you best get the fuck outta the comments if you dont like them better yet get the fuck out of the country if you get offended by the name
I worship a second chance God.
Great band, what happened at the State Fair in Du Quoin, IL is a bunch of PC BS!
Like the old saying you can't judge a book by its cover I guess that's not true anymore Confederate Railroad is one awesome group most of their songs have true meanings and song from the heart I don't think there's a racial bone in their body and the Confederate flag is are Heritage and a part of History a symbol for the south Not Hate ! A lot of ignorant people have used this ( Flag) symbol for hate but so have a lot of people used The Louisville Slugger ( Baseball Bat ) for hate should we ban it ?
they need to sue and other bands should boycott those fairs.
No its a bunch of whiney ass pansies getting their panties in a bunch.
The Civil war was fought over State Rights, not slave rights.
@Vincent Belfire That is pure BS, 13 states read out a succession speech in congress that clearly stated it was slavery that was the main reason while sighting there own economies because of there reliance on slavery.
Tell you what Confederacy railroad if you guys are so much of a badass why don't you come down to Springfield Illinois and we can work this s*** out and we can fight amongst us it's either Lincoln or the Confederacy flag otherwise peckish it up and get the f*** out of the USA and go to Russia
Guess you hate the Dixie Chicks too? Illiterate moron. No wonder you're single.
John Rodems keyboard tough guy. lol
The Bible says in Exodus that if you strike your mother or Fater you will surely be punished.
this AMERICAN BAND was UN- INVITED AT the ILLONISE STATE FAIR because the name OFFENED ...REALLY !!???
I was thinking what a bad, sorry no good bum. Then I started thinking about the times me and my farther almost came to blows.then I thought about this cute little red head, she had a horse farm, lots of money and the sweetest heart in the world. At the county fair one night she had one of her friends with her to meet me. After we met I ask that sweet red headed angel what was her friends phone number. As she was crying ,writing the number I didn't care one bit. Later in life after I was marred I bet I had 20 wife's that their husband's would have probably shot me,, but to me it was the self gratification. I've lied, cheated and you name it. I have never physically hurt anybody,, but I've broke a lot of hearts. I hope they are happy now and never think of me. Look who's heart is hurting now. I am sorry, very sorry. I was a stupid dumbass kid, if I could do it over I would do it so different.
The one thing my dad n i had in common were motorcycles.....but he wouldn't ride with me while i was drunk....he was 80 when i got sober....got to ride with him twice after that...he has givin up on 2 wheels because of his health....i regret the time i lost with him
This song is about people who are total pieces of shit.
Real Country
Real country music
Good moral to the song
So much truth
Haunted forever that’s me
Imagine if you you were in this predicament with your son. One never knows what can happen. Great song.
Monty kitchen i tried to get help for my wife bentoville police woman sent me away
I am so very sorry for letting my Mom and Dad down
Country has really taken a nose dive to nothing ,makes no sense, ol town road WTF
Tom Russell
The music is very good but the story is too sad, maybe a less dramatic story could be told instead.
Keep the country comin' and the town cryin'. Amen
I read a lot of the comments and I think there is a common misunderstanding. The little boy he is chasing is not him. It is his son. Lyrics say "....left her at the altar with a baby on the way". The kid is even in his gradpa's arms when he is crying about the execution. One could see this as the guy chasing after his kid to warn him.
True. Country song
Gm this song talk about lot things happening
A soul wont roll on a torn up track..
Can not beat Keith wittley
Dad you werent so stupied aftered all cant spell this am for the tears in my eyes. Jim lost in the 60ssssssssssssssssss
Been there done that dad so sorry at age of 68 today found you so stupid after all jim lost in the 60ssssssssssxssssssss
I have no regrets about never going back to my home town, the hurricane blew away what little there was.
What the hell happened to real country music like this
A train won't run on a torn up track... so true!
This song has always reminded me of my brother. He ran away when he was 16 and it’s been a good 30 years since we’ve spoken. He cut us all out of his life, he never married and is one lonely guy. He didn’t even come to our dads funeral who died several months ago. I’ll never understand it.
So so sad and such a horrible ending and the boy he's running after tear your heart out
