Concrete Blonde - True Lyrics

Well when I've had enough,
I'll get a pick-up truck and I'll drive away.
I'll take my last ten bucks just as far as it will go.

Ahh sometimes I'm easily fooled,
I take a painful step and I get knocked back two.
I do all I can and it's all I can do, but I'm true.

And if I had the choice I'd take the voice I got
Cause it was hard to find.
You know I've come too far to wind up right back where I started.
Ahh they tell me who I should be,
I'll never let the monkeys make a mess of me.
I give all I can and it's all I can do,
But I'm true.

One more sunset
Lay my head down - true
One more sunrise
Open my eyes up - true

And then they talk you up and then they talk you down
And you begin to doubt.
Sometimes the reasons seem so very far away.
Ahh but I'd stop breathing today,
but if I can't walk proud, I'd rather walk away.
I do all I am and it's all I can do,
Oh I'm true.

I'd give all I am and I'd give it to you.
So true.

Concrete Blonde True Comments

1986 release for those who still respect time and history. You Tube "fans" of artists are incredibly slack people. And Concrete Blonde were not "under-rated".

  2. F.... I....

IMHO, if they had kept their sound closer to this, and Johnette had stuck with this image, instead of veering all over the place with one scary outfit and haircut after another, Concret Blonde just might have done better. I enjoy "Joey" too, but it only took a million years and YouTube to realize, it was hidden away on "Bloodletting". An overly mannered and produced album, I found revolting after the sweet lightness of "True".

If this song was never used in a commercial for blue jeans, some heads need to roll

  5. c.... ....

This album was ahead of its time. Released in '87 but feels like '92.

I became a Concrete Blonde addict back when i was a pizza delivery driver in the early 90's.
I don't recall seein any of their music videos back then for some reason.

I'm not sure why I haven't looked up CB music on here before now! Lol!!

  12. K.... o....

Johnette Napolitano played in Portland, Or. years ago & I mean, that woman is incredibly talented!!! Always been a favorite.

  13. M.... ....

Absolute favorite song of the late 80s. I'd discovered it once I moved to California in 1989. The song really reflected my life at that time. Concrete Blonde became a staple in my music rotations for years after.

  14. D.... A....

Johnette Napolitano. God, she was just beautiful. That voice, and she played bass, to boot.

    O.... M....

Oxnard Montalvo she always will be

    O.... M....

Why are we speaking in the past tense about J~ Napolitano?

Enjoyed your reply/comment. You seriously captured the essence of it all. Joshua Tree (btw) is still one of my top ten albums ever. The lyrics have been able to bend & blend with my life over the past twenty years. Timeless recording.

I made a move like that in '88 from small-town N.B. to Ottawa, ONT. Scary too, for a wide-eyed kid with a head full of dreams. I have no idea who I'd be today if I'd stayed home. I had The Joshua Tree and this album with me and Johnette still sounds like a warm, wise friend.

  22. x.... S....

in 1991 this song inspired me to make a gigantic move and that was to move to California from Florida at the age of 20. I'm still here in California and so grateful that I made that step. It was super scary at the time. I knew one person out here then. It changed my life forever.

  23. D.... M....

I've always liked this more than Joey

  24. B.... M....

@goochieguy So you don't remember Tiffany, Debbie Gibson, Milli Vanilli, Men Without Hats, A-ha, New Kids or Michael Damian. I can go on and on, and there's always tons o' dreck for every decade. There's also plenty of good and great music, but you won't hear it on the radio anymore. That basically ended in the 80's too.

  25. x.... ....

    Have u heard propagandhi's cover?

  26. d.... c....

  30. 2.... ....

This is my all time favorite song.
I only listen to it once and awhile...I don't know if anybody understands. This song speaks to me sooo pointently that a dose of this song once a week is more than enough. :)))

  31. s.... ....

3 people will never understand good rock,
    what a true shame

  32. G.... S....

@steelearch Awesome that you caught that - I used to drive by that spot all the time wondering what was buried under the sand....

  33. M.... B....

    A song for my life.

  34. e.... w....

@malkeh2008 Absolutely brother! I was so fortunate to see them play live in my home town in Australia back in the early 90's and they have been my absolute favorite band ever since.

  35. s.... ....

she reminds me of Siouxsie with this short hair.

  36. 2.... ....

This woman and I are going ALL The WaY
    !

  37. L.... D....

this is a real "good-feeling" music!!!!!!

  38. s.... ....

Hey, that opening shot is the corner of Tipton Road and Highway 111, where the old Palm Springs train station once existed!!! The foundation is still there. And last I heard, Johnette is just over the hills to the north in Joshua Tree!

  39. r.... ....

damn nice to listen to a song that sounds just as great today as it did 25 years ago. how many artists out there can put such timeless music?

  40. t.... ....

    propagandhi

  41. N.... ....

If I had the choice I'd take the voice I've got, because it was hard to find....

  44. p.... ....

great music grat lyrics great band

  45. B.... N....

This song became a favorite of mine when Jack McCoy used it in a classic Billabong surf movie showing a FEW guys ripping a secluded, glassy left break. Since then, this is required listening when I go off on surfing or snowboarding trips...

  46. k.... ....

can someone put up Beware of Darkness from the same release? Thx

  47. C.... L....

yea thats a great song the lyrics are classic!a great record as well. cl

  48. s.... ....

i first heard Concrete Blonde in a sci- fi movie, I think it was "the Hidden". The next day I wnt out, bought the tape. Pretty much wore it out. My point is I love Concrete Blonde and I am as shallow and superfiscial as they get.

  49. Z.... S....

By far my favorite CB song ever (insert lighter held aloft here).

  50. 1.... ....

    This song rocks!:)

  51. C.... ....

Heard this song when it came out in the UK (1987 I think) on the recommendation of Maria McKee. Great lyric set to a nice tune. 80's production cant spoil it.

  52. A.... ....

Wow...so awesome to find this tune

  53. m.... ....

Heard a few Concrete Blonde songs in the soundtrack of the sci-fi movie The Hidden. One stuck in my head, "Your Haunted Head". Had to buy the CD, their first. CD's just hit in '86, and it was one of my first. Love "True", the video is great! "Beware of Darkness" on their first album was written by George Harrison. I think the drummer and Jhonette Napolitano had a thing going then. She has such a sexy low voice. Saw the band live in the early 90's at Milwaukee Summerfest. Thanks for posting!

  54. E.... B....

concrete blonde & jhonette napolitano was so much better
