Concrete Blonde - The Ship Song Lyrics
Come sail your ships around me
And burn your bridges down
We make a little history, baby
Every time you come around
And let your hair hang down
You are a little mystery to me
Every time you call around
We talk about it all night long
We define our moral ground
But when I crawl into your arms
Everything comes tumbling down
Come sail your ships around me
We make a little history, baby
Every time you come around
Your face has fallen sad now
For you know the time is nigh
When I must remove your wings
And you, you must try to fly
Come sail your ships around me
And let your hair hang down
You are a little mystery to me
Every time you come around
Come loose your thoughts upon me
And let your hair hang down
You are a little mystery, baby
Every time you call around

Concrete Blonde The Ship Song Comments
Johnette rules
Johnette has a fabulous voice but it's wasted on this technically proficient but soul-less cover. The drumming is mind-boggling awful; little more than a metronome
Thank's👍
awesome version!!! love Nick and Johnette peace all :)
This guy's voice is horrible.
I only ever heard Johnette sing this once, live at a show at the Commodore in the early 90s. I instantly fell in love with the song, discovered Nick Cave that day and never knew there was a recording. Love both artist’s versions, pretty much love everything CB did back in the day and still really miss that band.
I discovered Concrete Blonde long ago in my early teens, long before I'd ever heard of Nick Cave. While now I'm a fan of both artists, this version of The Ship Song will always be the definitive one for me. Very powerful, very passionate.
And if it features Nick Cave, why not include that in your description? Thanks
EVERYBODY doesn't KNOW...
This version is from 'Still In Hollywood' which are rare cuts and 'B' sides. Steve Wynn is the singer, not Nick Cave.
I had this record, I don't recall this song on it whatsoever... What's up?

04:10 the voices mixxing is such beautiful and peaceful. This song reminds me the best moments of my life.
Yes , I would say so !! Try and find Still in Hollywood !! uhh .. Ship song is on my wall painted , Suronding all my painting's
Another good cover of the ship song is Puddles Pity Party cover.
I'm usually pretty open to covers...but this is dogshit. Pure dogshit.
1:40 just blows my friggin' MIND! What an incredibly powerful, gritty, soaked in velvety honey! No one else sings like this women! Just love her!
sencillamente maravillosa cancion
Jonhette Napolitano : a melhor vocalista do rock'n roll, grande compositora, interprete e baixista..... e linda
Essa música do Concrete me faz delirar e curtir muito até hoje... quase todos os dias escuto.. Obrigado Concrete Blond..
This song gives me chills. A true classic.
I always loved this song.
can a version be better than the original I think so but oh what a song what a great song list
Thanks V :)
The song my wife and I danced to at our wedding.
+7wt :))))
Beautiful !!! Wow !! So Lucky !!
Excellent choice I must say
one of the best duets...I love when her voice comes in
ditto. makes it complete.
This guy's voice is horrible.
Thanks bro. Great song.
Good on you mate. Thumbs up
I lost my virginity to this song, to a woman named Karen who is long out of my life. I love this song. Hell, I'll always have a special place in my heart for her. Good memories.
awesome version!!! love Nick and Johnette peace all :)
Este som só não.., modificoua minha vida, como me mostrou meu amor proibido!
Eternamente grato.....
Is this Nick singing with Johnette, or Jim Mankey?
It is Concrete Blonde with Steve Wynn of Dream Syndicate performing a Nick Cave song.
@killbabykill35 Thanks for clarifying that, I was totally confused by the comments but it seems the description is correct then.
nick is a Johnette "fan" mate and I'm pretty sure he loves the way she sings it and they play it :) . Call it rock poetry if you will but this messes with my feelings just as much as Nick's original.
Evernumb, I totally agree, this is a great cover
Nick Cave's version is the standard by which all versions of this song should be judged, however that doesn't mean this version is shit as you suggest.
Remove the blinders from your eyes brah
Nice cover. Concrete Blonde was a real gem from an era of generally forgettable music.
Nick Cave's version a million times better
Martha Wainright's version is by far the best...
Camille O' Sullivan does a lovely cover of this. I prefer Nicks version of this also though.
Ruiboy23..... I'm not. I've heard the original, and although it's a good song, it's flat and almost emotionless. There's more to having soul than just the singing. The guitar work alone has more emotion than the original. And what "wailing" are you speaking of? Johnette has one of the most powerful and beautiful singing voices in the past 30 years.
@kafunkalear have you checked out Martha Wainrights version?
@grandvisier don't confuse wailing and backbeat with depth and soul, dude
I like this version much better than Nick Cave's original. This one has more depth and soul.
@kiimmattee are you allowed to be so wrong? lucky for Nicks real fans HE knows Johnette.
only nick does this song better thanks.
i could listion to this over & over
I <3 this song
Agree Ruined....this is a Poem not a rock song...Anyone who knows Nick Cave would understand..Awful.
Johnette is amazing
easily the best female vocalist in the last 30 yrs
what a powerhouse voice
sexy lady also :o)
NEVER EVER let me go.....history comes around,,and around,,and around
best version i ever heard
quality stuff
This is AWESOME =) *love*
Johnette rules!Sex goddess-poet-warrioress!!!
Takes me back. Its so sad what happened to her.She was great.
Still is* is what you ment. Listen to crib girl
i really like nick cave version, but must admit this is the best,,fkin tits
THANK YOU!
so mant attempt this lovely song,
the original by nick cave is by far the best !
buttttttt , Johnette Napolitano and her amazing voice could make anything sound fantastic !!!!!!!!!!!
I dont think these two could duet with anyone else. They both have such strong voices... they would overpower a lesser voice.
Exactly! her voice is like a nuclear reactor! She controls it like a maestro!
