You have to go deeply into the philosophical meaning of the lyrics to appreciate the message. The saying: "Behind the back of a great man, there's always a great woman" illustrates the meaning of the song. How many times We have a wife who is exactly that: ""The wind beneath our wings" that helps reach heights of success in life. We honor Mothers once a year with the MOTHER'S DAY HOLIDAY , when We should honor them everyday. Humanity depends on Mothers for the propagation of the SPECIES, how could we ever do without them? THINK ABOUT THAT VERY HARD! BYE
It was fitting that Perry gave tribute to Bing. Early on in his career, you could hardly tell the difference between him and Bing. Of course, he found his own niche later on. You would not confuse him with Bing on this song for example. But singing like Bing was how he got his career going. There were many singers back then who tried to sound like Bing. Perry was special in that he developed his own style as times went on,
Remember when singers treated the song as a friend instead of a foe to go 15 rounds with. Even in R&R era, they did not fight with the song, but today, that is considered the norm for singing.

His recording of this for hi album was taken from this PBS salute to Bing Crosby, this was beautiful the way Perry made this song his own, he was a great performer and close friend, Perry we miss you more everyday !!
