Como, Perry - Bless This House Lyrics

Bless this house, O Lord we pray,
Make it safe by night and day...

Bless these walls so firm and stout,
Keeping want and trouble out...

Bless the roof and chimneys tall,
Let thy peace lie overall...

Bless this door that it may prove,
Ever open,
To joy and love...

Bless these windows shining bright,

Letting in God's Heavenly light,
Bless the hearth, ablazing there,
With smoke ascending like a prayer!

Bless the people here within,
Keep them pure and free from sin...

Bless us all that we may be,
Fit O Lord to dwell with thee...

Bless us all that one day we may dwell,
O Lord! With Thee!

Cavan Paul Mulvihill ~ the body of Christ is the actual church, true, not a building. However, our congregation is without a building since the UMC locked our doors, so we meet in the fire station. Bless the building, we pray we can have it back one day...

We sang this is public school in the '50's when you could mention "God".

    B.... C....

+Beverly Coveleski You can still mention God today. The only people who don't know this are the ones who get their incorrect info from Fox News. Same goes for Christmas.

Down with the PC brigade. They try to change everything in case the non - Christians are offended which they generally are not. It will always be Christmas not Winter Festival !!

BLESS ON US FROM LORD JESUS CHRIST OUR GOD, ALWAYS ALL WAYS US, BUT, TO WE THANKS GOD, NEVER-NEVER DID TO THANKS GOD!THANK-YOU

  39. g.... ....

Mike, I have similar memories and miss then so very much , miss Mom and Dad. I feel so bad what they are doing to us and Christmas. They want us to be like the old Soviet Union and have no Christmas and have long faces . I hate those politicians for that. They stir up trouble among us . Have you noticed everyone is on edge. We've got to change them and get rid of those types . I pray the people wake up and see what is going on. They hand people crums and take away gold from them.

  40. A.... ....

Mike, your thoughts and description of your childhood home makes me feel as inspired as the song itself. I didn't have that kind of childhood, but I still get great joy from hearing about that reality.

  41. C.... M....

This amazing classic brings back warm and wonderful memories of Christmases growing up when all seemed right in the world. The house decked out in decorations, cookies baking, dogs asleep by the crackling fireplace, dad snoozing watching the news, mom watching the cookies and siblings coming in and out from the snow covered countryside and me lying on the den floor between the giant, fragrant Douglas Fir Christmas tree with the classic primary colored lights and the Franklin Stove as traditional Christmas songs like this masterpiece reaffirmed the feeling that indeed, all was well in the world. Treasured memories that remind me that as far as I am concerned, Norman Rockwell and/or "It's a Wonderful Life" were not idealized representations of the American family at all as many jaded leftists suggest. You see, they have a tendency to project/reflect/inject their experiences and upbringing as being "the way" it was for everyone. I feel sorry for them for having missed out and feel grateful that the Austin house was so truly blessed. This video includes the lyrics, pay close attention and be prepared to have your heart warmed.

+VON FRANKNSTEINS MADMUSICLAB PS: Your music sucks. In the world of important music, yours dreams someday of being as cutting edge, important and essential as "The Best of Pia Zadora".

    C.... M....

"The house decked out in decorations" is redundant.

"dad snoozing watching the news" is paradoxical.

"The house decked out in decorations, cookies baking, dogs asleep by the crackling fireplace, dad snoozing watching the news, mom watching the cookies and siblings coming in and out from the snow covered countryside and me lying on the den floor between the giant, fragrant Douglas Fir Christmas tree with the classic primary colored lights and the Franklin Stove as traditional Christmas songs like this masterpiece reaffirmed the feeling that indeed, all was well in the world."

    A run-on sentence.

Perry is totally channeling Bing Crosby. Listen to Crosby's "Faith of our Fathers" and compare!

    w.... ....

Crosby's Faith of Our Fathers is in my all-time top 10 songs ever, sometimes I think it's very near the top. POWERFUL!

  44. f.... ....

what a wonderful prayer in a song, Perry i guess is a Christian believer for no one can sing with heart, soul & mind if Christ is not in him. Yes Lord, bless our house, family & friends and also our pet animals. thank you Margriet for posting this hymn

    f.... ....

Cuomo was the real deal, a true believer and no, you cannot get a recording like this without the presence of The Holy Spirit. Cuomo retired to Jupiter, FL and in spite of his massive wealth, had a lovely but humble home on an inlet where he blended in like townsfolk. Truly, they were The Greatest Generation.

    +Mike Austin YIKES! I can't believe I called him CUOMO! I know it's Como. A slip.

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving.  I can remember so many Thanksgiving Eves listening to Perry sing this song as my Mom was working with Mr. Turkey for the next days feast.

  48. T.... ....

So thrilled to stumble upon this song! My Mom always listened to a radio program that opened with a woman's operatic voice singing a bit of this song. It has stayed with me all these years. I am just now hearing the entire piece. Absolutely gorgeous. Mr. Como puts his heart into this song and you can feel it. Love it. Thank You!

  59. M.... S....

There's nothing in the world that says Thanksgiving more than Perry Como singing this song. It brings back memories of my childhood. I can see him now singing it at the end of his Thanksgiving show. Those were the days......

  60. f.... ....

hey, this is my primary school's song... just the house part changed to school...

  61. S.... R....

This time of year I miss the sound of lovely songs sung by those with lovely voices. I miss sweet songs sung the way they were written without some person's individual funk added to it. These are moving and heart wrenching with memories of holidays gone by where Christmas and Thanks Giving were about Christ the Lord, instead of only Santa and turkey.
