I'm in the minority here... it sounds rushed and so little girlish to me, so I like other versions better. But I’m glad for her success now.

np.. I recently saw her in concert with Lyle Lovett and was so disappointed because there was more chatter between them than singing... in the 2 hr concert she sang less than 10 songs and I only recognized one song,,

Shawn Colvin's music got me through so many deep depression's. Originals, covers anything. She is a huge part of my life's soundtrack.

I was just thinking same thing. She is an amazing artist, and I can't think of times happy and sad her voice hasn't been a part of the soundtrack of my life. Hope you have more happy than sad places on your soundtrack.

Takes me back to 1981 when Shawn was playing open mikes in Berkeley. We were all in love with her--and with good reason.

I love this cover but her voice is so soft. I like Miley's better because it's steadier and stronger sounding.

It's amazing she's doing this all alone on a stage in front of people and it's absolutely perfect.

This is the best cover of Bob Dylan's original and Myley Cyrus got most of her cover version from Ms. Shawn Colvin... Very pretty version of the song and better than the original.

Bob Thwarts oh so very due!

Shawn's rendition of this Dylan masterpiece breaks the mold.  If you know me, you know that I only occasionally praise covers and often think some artists shouldn't even try...but this is different.  Shawn's clear and transcendentally beautiful voice and amazing guitar work make this piece one of a very rare set of covers I believe to be better than the original.  This is the song I use to bring unwary friends into the Church of Dylan with her voice and his poetry.

This is an absolutely superlative interpretation of Bob's song. I really dislike the term "cover" and its implications. (The original meaning of the term was to co-opt an original writer's or performer's version for monetary gain on the charts.) That is not what is happening here. Shawn is also a great writer. But, let's face it, regarding "covers", there are are far fewer good writers than good singers and guitarists. And, as someone who has heard 100s of original writers live over the years, only a handful have had songs and performances that compete with the best. I would rather hear a great non-original interpreted well and creatively, than an inferior original any day.

ever hear Shawn cover Gnarls Barkley's 'Crazy' ... she does it some justice...although that's one song, only Cee-Lo can sing like he does, and the Music is brilliant, as is the Video...

For my money, Shawn Colvin's version of this is the best-ever cover of a Bob Dylan tune, bar none. Absolute, utter perfection.

It makes me crazy that some people think that the Miley Cyrus' version of this even compares. First off this was recorded live in the 90's before auto-tune was around. If you think Miley's vocal wasn't "touched up" on a computer somewhere you are disillusion. Another fact that should be pointed out is that Shawn Colvin is playing this while singing, quite well I might add. That being said, I do appreciate Miley doing a song like this over Party in the USA.

Shawn's voice elevates the song into a sublime atmosphere; her guitar playing and her tempo is tribute to the song's author. Go back and listen to Bob's original and I'd like to think he would say 'Yes, she got it right" Who knows. maybe he did-or will. They're both still around for Pete's sake.....
