Collins, Phil - Tomorrow Never Knows Lyrics

Turn off your mind, relax and float downstream
It is not dying, It is not dying.
Lay down all thoughts, surrender to the void
It is shining, oh it is shining.
That you may see the meaning of within
It is beginning, oh it is beginning.

That love is all and love is ev'ryone
It is knowing, oh it is knowing.
And ignorance and hate may mourn the dead
It is believing, oh it is believing.
So play the game, existence to the end
Of the beginning, of the beginning.

Of the beginning, of the beginning...

Collins, Phil Tomorrow Never Knows Comments
  1. M.... M....

good job, Phil!! apreciate it, cool brah

  2. m.... l....

    Masterpiece.

  3. S.... ....

20 years prior, Collins got to see the Beatles perform at the end of A Hard Day's Night.

    🥺 OK, not gonna cry...

  4. m.... I....

Really dig this cover. Obviously , credit is due to The Beatles , not just for the song but the sonic template. Still, i think if John had made TNK in the late 70s , it would sound something like this

  5. J.... P....

The only thing really wrong with this version of the song is that it would have fit in better on Abacab

  6. T.... T....

Phil Collins is trash. I’m the light, next time, I find me. I am near, I hear it all.

  7. K.... F....

I don't know how I'm just discovering this cover, but it's wonderful. Phil gets the spirit of the song exactly right without trying to duplicate it. It's generally said in musician circles that one should not try to cover The Beatles, and usually I agree because it typically turns out poorly. But I'd be down for more Beatles covers of this caliber.

    K.... F....

Collins doesn't get nearly enough credit for his arrangements. He sets a mood and stretches it. Masterful and yes, who tries to cover this tune? So good.

  8. t.... ....

on par with the OG. Got Face Value as a ten year old in ‘86 from my grandmother. this song was always my favorite from this album, always made me feel and think exquisitely psychedelic things, all naturally and inspired by music. Man, I love this song.

  9. d.... ....

I heard this version first. Never had any idea it was a cover, let alone a cover of a Beatles song. So, I must say I prefer this version. It got in my brain first.

  10. R.... J....

Gosh, he really messed up a masterpiece

  11. J.... R....

Is there a part of somewhere over the rainbow at the end???

  12. R.... C....

A proud effort. I think John would give it a thumbs up! At least Phil got the drums right, most don't.

  13. M.... ....

Some critics apparently hated this cover, but I'm feeling it

  14. T.... ....

Cool, I can't believe he covered this Beatles song in particular. But I always loved the drums on this one. I wonder if that was what attracted Phil to it originally.

  15. n.... ....

Recorded short after John was shot...

  16. M.... B....

Phil one of US psychedelic lovers <3

  17. J.... K....

It's common fodder to crap on Collins for his pop success, but the body of work by the man is truly great. Great singer, outstanding drummer. Mad respect.

  18. B.... T....

I'm embarrassed to admit that I heard this version first. Since then I'm flabbergasted that Phil had the nerve to do it. Or that it came out as good as it did.

  19. J.... R....

Phil Collins nailed it on this one ! Great cover song if I say so myself! Great drumming!

  20. r.... b....

    ~L Shankar{10 string violin viola,cello,bass electro instrument},is present~~xx

  21. D.... T....

I like original song by original artists because of fast beat (tempo), such as Light My Fire by The Door, I've Heard It Through The Grapevine by Gladys Knight & The Pips, I Say A Little Prayer by Dionne Warwick, The Loco-Motion by Little Eva, See You In September by The Happenings, and Without You by Harry Nilsson.

  22. D.... T....

I like the Beatles version better then Phil Collins, because I don't hear the cover tune by Phil Collins too much as the Beatles version, since I heard, Tomorrow Never Knows by the Beatles more then 1,000 times on the radio and on the Beatles' Revolver LP.

  23. C.... M....

    why is half song missing?

  24. M.... y....

I listen to this, then the version by 801, like bookends, so awesome!

  25. A.... C....

Sounds even better cranked up on headphones. And that's Yoko wailing at the end of the song too........no just kidding.

  26. D.... H....

voice excellent, far as instrumentation goes, can't recreate that genius!!

  27. p.... b....

Phil plays on George Harrison’s classic album “All Things Must Pass”, no lie

    p.... b....

He was 'second tambourine', if I remember correctly. :-)

    p.... b....

He played bongos (not very well by his own admission.) And they got left out of the (original) mix.

  28. h.... k....

i think im gonna be said i think its the day yeahhh the girl is driving me mad.....

  29. L.... ....

For maximum effect, play at 1.25 speed.

  30. S.... D....

    PC made this his own...

  31. K.... S....

It's like Phil took gated Reverb 2 psychedelic music. Audacious to combine his sound and the Beatles but it works. Plus he makes sure that all the ethnic sounds are used Plus furthermore is using a lot of that eras technology like the drum machine on top of those pounding drums and the sound of a shehnai which undoubtedly was a synthesizer

  32. M.... D....

Great cover , check out Los Lobos do it justice. Lennon would have liked both.

  33. M.... S....

One of his most under rated songs even though it was a Beatles song still was a great cover

  34. T.... R....

It's just John Giblin on fretless bass guitar and Phil Collins on everything else (drums, vocals, percussion, synthesizers) with samples of Daryl Stuermer's guitar, The EWF horns, Shankar's violin and the kids choir from "Hand in Hand" backwards and slowed down.

  35. .... ....

    Amazing!
At least better than that Oasis cover

  36. M.... D....

Great version of Lennon tune , check out Los Lobos version, killer!

  37. D.... O....

John would have been impressed. In fact, he probably would have loved to have participated in it!

  38. R.... J....

I swear you could extract lsd from this music alone.

  39. C.... A....

    Phil is the man

  40. B.... l....

Damn this is a great cover

  41. R.... A....

    No está mal...

  42. O.... f....

ah fuck the Beatles, fuck them...Lennon the atheist, Harrison the heretic, Ringo the untalented and the worst of the worst Mcca the egomaniac. Les derniers seront les premiers et les derniers les premiers.

    O.... f....

Better cut that booze before your liver explodes, drunkard

    O.... f....

You do realize you’re going to Hell now, right?

  43. S.... H....

    Phil is a musical genius.

  44. T.... ....

Someone mentioned authenticity of this cover, but actually if you watch the first Beatles movie, "A Hard Day's Night", they are shown giving a concert, and one of the kids in the concert audience is child actor Phil Collins. Later, he played percussion on George Harrison's All Thing Must Pass.

  45. N.... M....

Man, this version is terrible with bad vocals and fake drumming. The Beatles’ version sounds way way way much better.

  46. B.... S....

Phil Collins solo not being full of himself? Count me in! It is really good interpretation, goes smooth and sweet. In fact - it is much less disjointed than original. Mostly because the original was more about throwing stuff against the wall. Collins' version is more focused and he managed to keep the aesthetic and update it to Fairlight framework. Which is a tough thing to do with an interface like Fairlight.

  47. J.... N....

"Turn off your mind, relax and float down stream..."
It's the real way to find yourself

    J.... N....

It's a quote from the Tibetan Book of the Dead.

  48. b.... p....

After listening to phil version I love him so much more than previous, the best cover and tribute I've ever heard.

    b.... p....

Just found out how good phil feels psychedelic

  49. S.... H....

listen at 1.25 for a better time

  50. T.... ....

This worthy cover by Phil Collins is excellent & memorable... Great sounds!

  51. K.... ....

Collins is a square meanstream guy.
    It's a bloody good version.
    All i'm saying.

  52. J.... H....

Like anything else he's ever done, pretentious and derivative. And never cover a Beatles song. Ever.
Stick to yacht rock, Phil, the money's better.

  53. D.... ....

How did I never hear this?

    This is an awesome cover!

  54. P.... C....

Phil Collins is the best version, it's even better than the Beatles version.

  55. J.... G....

Oh no mocking. he’s genius. Great interpretation of that song.

  56. I.... ....

    Best version EVER!!!!!

  57. I.... ....

    Phi is awesome!!

  58. E.... M....

How awesome to revisit this. I forgot how excellent is this tribute. Well done.

  59. C.... ....

Sounds 'metalic' and horrible. Absolutely no funkiness / head spinninesss

  60. S.... K....

    Phil is the man

  61. L.... C....

Class cover the best cover of this song but still doesn't beat the Beatles version

  62. n.... ....

    Best Beatles cover ever....

  63. B.... ....

"Face Value" was released February 1981...only weeks after 12/8/80, and it never dawned on me that Phil's "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" was a lullaby for Lennon. Still as amazing to me now as it was 37 years ago. How time flies.

  64. T.... W....

I think it’s a great cover, simply because Phil and John have similar voices. That kind of higher pitched wail that defined so many of Lennon’s songs...Phil has it too.

  65. I.... I....

One of my fav artist with my fav song!

  66. d.... ....

    *BRING OUT PHIL COLLINS*

  67. a.... f....

Phil collins .. in one of the darkest Periods of his life perfectly portrayed by those atmospheric gated drums and prophet synth

  68. R.... M....

This Beatles track is mind-blowing fifty years after it was released!  It is a song about the unconscious portion of our mind, destiny, and death..."It is not dying."

  69. D.... S....

Love Phil & everything he's done.

  70. j.... g....

Well that was fucking wank. Thank god john never heard this

  71. 5.... 5....

    what a shitty version

  72. A.... B....

Damn... never heard this one before. Phil🌞

  73. P.... a....

Not a great Phil Collins fan. However you have to give the man the respect as a great artist and musician. He knows His stuff people. Respect for that.

  74. D.... C....

"Once" Pearl Jam is a certain continuation of this song. Just a ten year gap between the two

  75. T.... ....

I never knew the Beatles did this!! I kind of "recognized" it hearing snippets of the Revolver-Album from the British guys. Collins did a fine job, though.

  76. C.... D....

Non ho dubbi su Phil, è bravo ed unico...però questa cover la trovo un tantino poco originale e oltretutto il drumming è più lento rispetto a quello di Ringo e non ha il groove irripetibile.

  77. s.... m....

this is the perfect song to be in the Bahamas beach or pool on a sunny day listening to this song. trust me I know. I felt soo relaxed

  78. B.... H....

    Great version!

  79. R.... ....

possibly the most challenging cover song anyone could ever hope to tackle.
    Collins definitely nailed it.

  80. g.... ....

    Excellent Phil, atb Terry

  81. D.... R....

Search on Los Lobos's version. It kicks ass.

  82. T.... T....

this song is "once Pearl Jam "

  83. t.... a....

Cmon on feel thee emotion fell in love in 93 with this . beauty

  84. V.... ....

I only like Beatles songs when someone else does them because they fix them up and improve the parts that couldn't be done by the Beatles.

  85. R.... A....

you learn something new every day, never knew this was a cover.. one of my fave tracks.

  86. E.... B....

I think his version is pretty much as great as the Beatles, just made in a different era.

  87. S.... M....

    I hear yoko in there

  88. D.... C....

One of the best albums of the 80s

  89. R.... M....

This song fits perfectly with his style, but I'd love to hear him perform it with a lot more energy

  90. J.... ....

I like how even though he tries to make it his own sound, he also tries to be faithful to the original.

    J.... ....

Musicians ALWAYS Make a song "There Own" It's what's in there minds that produce the music in the 1st place unlike the Ripoffs that Rappers do called "Sampling" that's total BULLSHIT. Was never intended to be used that way by whomever wrote the song in the 1st place. I AM a Musician and there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with NOT playing each and every note as written on the LP in the 1st place. Even The Artist can't reproduce it in that manner or maybe don't want to either way Musicians Play there emotion AT THAT MOMENT and when someone "Covers" Your song(s) Such as Phil Collins, That alone is a huge Compliment! And when it comes out as NICE as this Cover did well what's left to say but THANK YOU PHIL!

    J.... ....

Boots Randolf Ironically , one of the only times id disagree is another of Phils covers (Cant Hurry Love). Arrangement wise, its a remake meant to sound the same as the original.

  91. T.... W....

If I could give six hundred thumbs up to this playlist I would. If the thumbs are blurry, it's because I am moving.
Dancing to this song is a full body experience and to repeat it in variations is an incredible workout. Thanks!

  92. n.... ....

    Lennon-McCartney strike again!!

  93. J.... C....

It's a good cover version, but Tangerine Dream does a nicer cover of this song.

  94. C.... D....

Are you doing what the Beatles say to do? Are you turning off your mind, relaxing, and floating downstream? You should, because it is shining!!! *Google truth contest* and read "The Present" to see the truth about life, which will set you free from the mind, especially the 1st 3 pages.

    C.... D....

it is true, the truth will set you free

    C.... D....

    smashing

    C.... D....

Zeus Le Deus X Deuce No Douche as

  95. M.... D....

Great cover. Face Value was a great Phil Collins album, very similar to some of his work with Brand X, a very underrated rock jazz group who had the funniest liner notes by the Monty Python gang. But "Susidio" is what brought him down to plain ol' top 40 pop fluff. So below such a great drummer.

  96. D.... C....

I keep waiting for Eddie Vedder to cut in with "once" haha

  97. G.... W....

A courageous cover that surpasses the original by a long distance.

  98. b.... ....

    this is fucking... TERRIBLE

  99. G.... ....

I've not heard this cover till now :-)
