This song touches me personally as i am a kidney disease survivor who almost didnt make it. In 2008 i had a kidney transplant at sick kids hospital in Toronto and i am eternally greatful to the doctors and nurses who helped me become a survivor of Kidney disease.

If you're pushing forward doing your best your a survivor

This song reminds me so much of my grandpa, when he was ill and lost him in April 1995, I miss him so much, I wish he could come back and let me be his baby again

This reminds me of when I was a baby and had lung problems, when it became hard for me to breathe in the middle of the night, my mom used to take me outside on the porch to ease my breaths. It felt like I was gonna die for a while, but I'm glad I survived.

both sides of story is his best album, he ever made, he wrote the songs without medial pressure. every song has so much feeling,sensitivity, amazing,wonderful.

I love this album. I had this on tape as I kid. I started listening to Genesis on my mom's records when I was four. Now I'm 30 and have all their music on mp3s/CDs. Songs like this truly sing the stories of our lives.

Both Sides though magical did not get as much attention as its predecessor because R&B/Hip hop started to take over mainstream pop at that time. And nowadays, quality songs like this one will never get attention on pop radio anymore. It will be relegated to adult contemporary stations. You now need to look and sound trashy to get into mainstream radio. Just a shame that mediocrity is what is being celebrated by today's generation instead of geniuses like Phil.

I agree. I think he was going for the darker, deeper feelings and emotions of real life. I actually like his style in this album. In fact, it's my favorite album from him.

i read he released both sides vhs, but no one bought it. so he pulled it.

it is sad that phil released such a deep album but never released the tour on dvd and never played its songs on any other tour after the both sides tour. except for the one of "we wait and we wonder" on the farewell tour, both sides fell out of phils graces pretty fast after 1995. sad for such a deep and amazing album. hell the only reason this album didnt get as high as his older albums is because phil didnt go for the radio style for this album but just focused on the feelings and emotions.

Both sides of the story and can't turn back the years were played in 1997 on the trip into the light tour but unfortunetaly they were taken out from the DVD live and loose in Paris. Noone knows why... Nine songs are missing from this wonderful show !

@ForzaAjax While I'm a HUGE FAN OF PHIL from 1970's until 1993. This CD. That is why you didn't hear much of it. BOTH SIDES cd marked the end of a brilliant and super amazing career for Phil Collins/Genesis. I should know, I bought every CD the day it was released since early 1980's (lp back then). When Both Sides CD was released, it was so dark for "it's time" that few radio stations played the songs. CD is very dark and today, I think it's classic ! But few have heard it. PHIL ROCKS !

I listen to Collins since i was 11 i knw all his songs, albums , and i possess all genesis albums...
This song has something going extremely deep inside of me
