Collins, Judy - Pack Up Your Sorrows Lyrics

No use cryin', talking to a stranger
Namin' the sorrow you've seen
Too many sad times, too many bad times
Nobody knows what you mean

But if somehow you could pack up your sorrows
And give them all to me
You would lose them, I know how to use them
Give them all to me

No use ramblin', walkin' in the shadows
Trailin' a wanderin' star
No one beside you, no one to hide you
Nobody knows where you are

But if somehow you could pack up your sorrows
And give them all to me
You would lose them, I know how to use them
Give them all to me

No use gamblin' runnin' in the darkness
Looking for spirit that's free
Too many wrong times, too many long times
Nobody knows what you see

But if somehow you could pack up your sorrows
And give them all to me
You would lose them, I know how to use them
Give them all to me

No use roamin', lying by the roadside
Seekin' a satisfied mind
Too many highways, too many byways
And nobody's walkin' behind

But if somehow you could pack up your sorrows
And give them all to me
You would lose them, I know how to use them
Give them all to me

He was so fine... listen to the dulcimer. What a true blue song.  Ms. Collins just sang it beautifully. Ah... just watched  he and wife Mimi with Pete Seeger , and this song. Whew. Glad to remember.

It has been so long that I forgot about this song and how much I loved it.   I love it again.    Thank you, Scout, for putting great things out into the Universe.

  6. S.... T....

Nice cover of a Richard Farina song. That's him on Appalachian dulcimer.

    S.... T....

Richard died in 1966. When was this recorded?

Both Joan & Judy are great and much different !
First I did not make difference then I became an enormous french Judy Collins' fan for life ...
    Great thanks !

  8. f.... ....

From her " Fifth Album ", maybe the best of all the Folk Revival Era.

Judy is also a very, very fine songwriter: Song for Duke, Albatross, Since you asked, etc.

THANK YOU, AND SHE ALSO WAS/IS SUCH A STIRRING SONGSTREST, CHANGING MY LIFE, BROADENING MY MUSIC FROM JUST ROCK/ROLL TO FOLKMUSIC AND BLUES. SHE PUT OUT A SONG BOOK AROUND THE TIME OF THIS SONG. NOT ONLY DID IT HAVE ALL THE GREAT WRITER/SINGERS, WHICH I NEVER HEARD OF BEFORE BUT SHE ALSO, ON THE LINER NOTES, TOLD HER STORY. FROM WOODY TO RICHARD & MIMI TO JOAN TO DYLAN TO LIGHTFOOT AND HER DIVORCE AND LOSS OF CUSTODY OF HER CHILD AND SO MANY ACHES AND TRIUMPHS. I WOULD SAY, SHE CHANGED MY LIFE

I disagree with the above comment- she was BIG and great but I consider Ms Collins the all time QUEEN and the absolute Icon of this genre,To me SHE is the Big One.

Judy in her prime. Fabulous. Where have all the good times gone?

Thanks again for all your wonderful postings from Bobby (Darin) to Baez!
"Judy Collins/ 5" is my absolute favorite of her many great albums.
This is the best version this song for me as well, even though I love those of PP&M, Baez,. Johnny Cash and of course Mimi n Richard .

man, I love Ms. Judy - even when others write good songs she has a way of singing them that makes them great

Judy had the incredible knack of producing covers that seemed for all the world that they must be the original.... because they are always so different from the original that it gives both versions room to breathe. Typical examples are Dylans "Tomorrow is a long Time" and "Dream".

  17. N.... B....

Just discovered this song through the book "Momma and the Meaning of Life" by Irvin Yalom. Nice song and glad I could find it here.

    N.... B....

Yalom has led me here too.
    Existential high five! :)

  18. C.... ....

Judy has for me the best version & interpretation with Richard Farina. It's in "The Judy Collins songbbook" (1969/70) with a beautiful picture of the recording . Great thanks !

I love Judy, especially the early Judy. I got her finest albums on vinyl. This song was a big "hit" for insiders back then, but Judy never made the breakthrough in my country i guess.
