Collins, Judy - Holly Ann Lyrics

She is a weaver
Through her hands the bright thread travels
Blue green water, willows weeping, silver stars

She sings and sighs as the shuttle flies
Through the yarn like a Kerry dancer
Pink and purple velvet red for a lover's bed

Living north of San Francisco
With a man who built his house alone
Living peaceful in the country
The lights of the golden gate will lead her home

She is a spinner
In her hands the wooden wheel turns the wool around
Then around again

A gypsy from Bolinas
Sits and plays the mandolin
Faces smile in the firelight of a foggy night

Living north of San Francisco
Sometimes it's nice to be alone
She says, it's peaceful where she is living
The lights of the golden gate will lead her home

You can see the bridges of the city
Hanging in the air by steel and stone
She says, it's peaceful where she's living
The lights of the golden gate will lead her home

She is a weaver
Through her hand the bright thread travels
Blue green water, willows weeping, silver stars

She is my sister
The baby born when I was older
Her hands are light, her hair is bright as the summer sun

Living north of San Francisco
Sometimes it's nice to be alone
She says, it's peaceful in the country
The lights of the golden gate will lead her home

The lights of the golden gate will lead her home

“She is my sister; the baby born when I was older”
    Tears every time

This is a truly beautiful song. I always liked Judy Collins' music, but the reason I actually know this one is that a friend of mine has performed it in New York City.

From my very tiny salary as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Florida, this is one of the few albums I purchased in 1975. A favorite still.

I remember hearing this in a booth in a record shop, 'one stop' in london in 1973, and as good as it is, my memory is of how things had changed for the worse since the late 60s, and that records like this were getting rarer to find.

I think I must have heard this when I was young - sounds very, very familiar. Thanks for uploading AND for that beautiful morning shot of the Golden Gate Bridge. I'm from the wine country...the sight of the bridge is always wonderfully, beautifully heart-wrenching when I return to visit. No place like home!

Well I have been a member of her fan Club for years. Good idea. I had rather write her at " Wildflowers " in New-York.
    Great thanks &
    Best wishes
