Collins, Judy - Hey, That's No Way To Say Goodbye Lyrics

I loved you in the morning, our kisses deep and warm
Your hair upon the pillow like a sleepy golden storm
Many loved before us, I know that we are not new
In city and in forest they smiled like me and you

Now it's come to distances and both of us must try
Your eyes are soft with sorrow
Hey, that's no way to say goodbye

I'm not looking for another as I wander in my time
Walk me to the corner, our steps will always rhyme
You know my love goes with you as your love stays with me
It's just the way it changes like the shoreline and the sea

But let's not talk of love or chains and things we can't untie
Your eyes are soft with sorrow
Hey, that's no way to say goodbye

I loved you in the morning, our kisses deep and warm
Your hair upon the pillow like a sleepy golden storm
Many loved before us, I know that we are not new
In city and in forest they smiled like me and you

Now it's come to distances and both of us must try
Your eyes are soft with sorrow
Hey, that's no way to say goodbye

  2. S.... B....

    Good journey, Sir.

  3. M.... ....

Beautiful duo. I was wondering if perhaps Leonard and Judy had a relationship back in the 60's? Their first comments kind of reflected that. Leonard will be greatly missed...amazing poet and artist.

  4. P.... B....

Magical, just magical....but now it's come to distances. Thanks for posting

I love Judy. I love this song. I absolutely ADORE Leonard.

... But not this performance. Downloaded it before hearing it, then deleted it from my hard drive just now. This is far from their best. That's just the way it is. They can't all be great.

    P.... A....

Just a note . . . during this year, 1976, Judy was having a lot of trouble with her voice. Things were remedied a couple years later when she had laser surgery on her vocal cords, and also stopped drinking alcohol.

  6. J.... v....

Rest in peace in love Leonard Cohen

  7. W.... S....

I will not miss LC. I have his music and inspiration that will never fade. I cannot miss something that has become such a part of me. I so appreciate anyone who forces me to look deeper, especially when they don't know they are doing it.

  8. M.... ....

Both are rare gentle and talented music lovers.

  9. A.... D....

    we miss u, sir

  10. J.... W....

    A genius!

  11. D.... B....

    music from the heavens...

  12. .... ....

    Прекрасный певец, прекрасная пара.

  13. M.... ....

Beautiful. So grateful to have seen you in concert, Leonard, in 2008 in Vancouver. What a wonderful night, and how gracious you were towards your fans and your band members. A real gentleman, and a real genius with words. Your music will live on, long after you are gone, and I am gone. Love you Leonard ! Judy Collins harmonized well with Leonard, in a different way than one usually hears it done, but superb.

  14. J.... C....

There goes Judy Collins, ruining a good song

  15. N.... ....

oh yes he is marvellous, forever loved and missed....

  16. k.... b....

Wonder if they're singing out of sync deliberately.

    k.... b....

Probably so. Jennifer Warnes's Famous Blue Raincoat album has a lot of this technique on it. I find it so live and beautiful. For this song in particular it's like two people parting from each other and the reason that they are is that they are not in sync. There is always something in a Leonard Cohen song and performance that mean something whether he meant to or not.

  17. s.... f....

Leonard's voice was at its best when he is accompanied by Judy i think.

  18. N.... P....

thank you so much for this, peace

  20. j.... e....

How could two people sing this? What am I missing?

  22. M.... L....

C est beau comme une fin de fête
Quand l ambiance revient lentement au calme
    Mes pulsations sont en baisse
J aurai demain encore de nombreuses défaites
Et je suis bien même si tu me laisses

  23. S.... N....

    Lovely.
    Be at peace, Leonard.

  24. B.... L....

What is it about his voice?....not particularly musical but magical nonetheless

    k.... l....

When it comes to prejudice, you have to separate the wheat from the chaff. Ain't hard to distinguish Chimpy. Glad he's attacking you, hoping that he'll give you a bit of relief and attack me henceforth.

    k.... l....

+kitty lynch Any relation to Kelley? If so, where are Leonard's five million bucks?

    k.... l....

@***** And yet, you took the bait. I'm laughing my ass off at you.

  48. J.... M....

💗💗💗 my first Leonard Cohen song 💗💗💗

    J.... M....

Juliet Martinez -- 'Suzanne' was my first, this one my second. I miss him so much already... :'(

    J.... M....

Anthea Rutherford, Suzanne was my second, but the first one I knew as an LC song. I grew up listening to this one on a Judy Collins record my parents had ☺

  49. a.... ....

It was always comforting to know that, somewhere in the background, you could hear and enjoy voices sweet as those of Judy Collins, and meaningful and awesome of poets like Leonrard Cohen's. Now that hate is among us, dividing us, creating walls instead of roads, it will be very missed the times of your peace and your selfsearching. Cohen: you leave us to deal with hatred, and your words are, now, essental in this earth.

    a.... ....

Dark times are upon us. I knew joy and optimism as a young man, and feel sorry for the young now - they will never know what we assumed was our birthright; they can't feel the loss of what they never had...

    a.... ....

It is SOOOOO comforting to be able to come here, especially now, and be reassured that I am not alone in my feelings of hopelessness. I have to keep reminding myself that we cannot truly appreciate the light until we are coming out of total darkness. Our nation is entering darkness now, but we will emerge into the light again. Thank you all for posting.

    a.... ....

    Beautifully said.

  87. S.... P....

Will miss him, a great poet and musician, left a great legacy, this is one of my favourites, his only drawback was the same as Dylan's ( Can't sing) but then he never claimed he could.
    RIP Lady's man

    S.... P....

Stuart Parkin errrm that is singing

    S.... P....

I've never understood why so many people say Leonard Cohen couldn't sing. Not a conventional voice perhaps, but I find it beautiful and perfectly suited to the words he wrote.

    S.... P....

    +Susan M yes!

  88. H.... D....

Beautiful. I was looking for a song to comfort me these past few days, and I just couldn't. For some reason, I was moved to hear the strings on Famous Blue Raincoat this morning, and it worked. It soothed the beast. I wasn't even aware at that point that you had passed. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your songs.

    H.... D....

You have to be sad, as am I (I've been crying off and on for the last few days) but your sadness has to be measured against the incredible output of this fellow. He lived and he gave and he lived and he gave and kept coming back to give, and he did so up until his last album, which I haven't even heard yet.

Many many people and groups have done his songs, some better than he could have done them. I doubt that he resented that.

My fear though is that it's going to be a long time, probably longer than the time allotted to me, until somebody again comes to tie poetry and music into a reef knot.

  89. D.... S....

    we'll miss you forever...

  90. J.... H....

My brother has died, I shall miss you Leonard.
I have lost a brother in spirit today, his name was Leonard Cohen. Since a child his music has always inspired me, it somehow reflected the way I felt and the message he sent in them was so very touching and he often made me cry. I loved him like a brother, though I never met him I shall regard him deeply. I will miss you Leonard, I cannot relate how much, I am deeply saddened at your death.

  96. S.... F....

    Miss you already, Leonard R.I.P
