Collins, Judy - Hello, Hooray Lyrics

Hello! Hooray!
Let the show begin
I'm ready
Hello! Hooray!
Let the lights grow dim
We've been ready

Ready as the rain to fall, just to fall again
Ready as a man to be born, only to be born again,
and again and again and again
Hello! Hooray! Let the show begin
I'm ready
Hello! Hooray! Let the lights grow dim
I'm been ready

Ready as the rain to fall, just to fall again
Ready as a man to be born, only to be born again,
I've been waiting so long for another song
I've been thinking so long I was the only one
We've been hoping so long for another song

So I will sit and I'm so thin
And I will laugh when this thing begins and begins,
And begins
It's then we'll be above the time and the weather
Dancing to a rolling good time on a feather
All it wants is coming here to stay
Each of them an actor, each one a play
I've been waiting so long for my song
I've been thinking so long I was the only one
We've were hoping so long for another song
So we will sit and we'll act so thin
And we will laugh when this thing begins and begins

Collins, Judy Hello, Hooray Comments
  1. P.... P....

Wow, was not expecting this; only recently learned Cooper's version is a cover. Cooper's cover is great, and the better version (imo), but I have to wonder how he listened to this and came up with what he did or that he even heard potential cover material in this song.

  2. D.... H....

    This is just too weird.

  3. C.... D....

Alice's version is 5000 times better.

  4. a.... r....

All the comments about alice cooper...this one far superior and the original. Her voice was powerful and soft, great singer! I've loved this song since I first heard it. One of my favorites.

  5. V.... F....

This makes my head hurt and my ears bleed! Give me the Alice Cooper version over this, not even on beat, garbage any day!!!

  6. C.... T....

I've never listened to anything by Alice Cooper, so I can't offer an opinion there. I bought Judy's album on vinyl the week it was released and I still listen to it. Beautiful, like all of her albums.

    C.... T....

By Alice this song is an arena rocker. It is cool and creepy. If you can't dig creepy than you won't like Alice's version. Why not give it a try.

  7. D.... D....

It could be from Jefferson Airplane

  8. g.... ....

Just wanna say well done to everyone who has been respectful of all renditions.

I listened to all of the covers listed on Wikipedia - here's my worst to best list of the artists renditions:

#5. Pig - I just thought it was truly awful - really didn't fit the genre.
#4. Frankenstein Drag Queens From Planet 13 - sounded good, but sounded too close to the Alice Cooper version.
#3. This version... was a bit hard to listen to at times).
#2. The Rolf Kempf version - really enjoyed the atmosphere.
#1. Alice Cooper's version - just because I'm a massive fan boy and the "I feel so strong" line always makes me emotional.

  9. C.... B....

Alice Cooper group definitely deserved a writing credit on this one. This version is alright, but they sure changed it a hella lot and made it so much better!

  10. L.... L....

What a load of crap. Makes me realize what a genius Alice cooper is. He took this song and made it into a brilliant anthemic rock epic. This version couldn't punch itself out of s paper bag. It's awful

  11. P.... L....

Totally underrated version of a Rolf Kempf a song. Never even want to hear Alice Cooper's version. Ok. , noww I did after folks here say that its great. ha ah . what a joke. Nowhere as good as JC. Her whole album is a bloody classic.

    P.... L....

JC has her moments, but Alice absolutely perfected this song and it will always be known as his.

  12. M.... D....

ehh umm ahh err oh .....no
    just no

thank you everyone for your effort to move us away from this
motion thru our countries history ......god bless.....(shakes head)

  13. S.... X....

I knew years ago this version was around but this is the first time I've heard it. Dear sweet pink baby Jesus, it's fucking horrible.

  14. L.... R....

This sucks. Alice Owns This song

  15. T.... ....

I was in shock when I heard that Judy Collins performed this before Alice Cooper. I like Judy Collins, but I'm having trouble getting into her version. It does have some good moments. The Alice Cooper version is pure genius.

    T.... ....

Has some good moments? Yep, like the end. :)

    T.... ....

@Samuel Xavier No I think there are moments where this version is good.

  16. h.... ....

Her lyrics are deeper and more interesting than AC's, which are pretty adolescent and predictable. This is much more
about the artist's nature (or maybe someone manic) and drive to live at a very high pitch of connection.

    h.... ....

    Well summarized

  17. P.... ....

    ******GARBAGE****** DO NOT LISTEN.

  18. k.... w....

Alice Cooper with Bob Ezrin took this into orbit

    k.... w....

I reckon Alice took it to another universe!

  19. J.... ....

After hearing Alice Cooper's version and then hearing this, I have to laugh at this version. Alice wins hands down.

  20. B.... S....

I'd like to hear her do Alice's way

  21. S.... O....

I don't know why everybody hates this version so much. Yes, it's not Alice, but this isn't terrible. Honestly, as far as I'm concerned Judy's and Alice's versions of this song are completely different. And also, neither of them wrote it, so it's not like they have any real ownership over it. Both versions are good.

    S.... O....

Oh, it really is terrible, in a floaty, cheesecloth, joss stick, muesli and knit your own goat's cheese hippie way. It's completely, absolutely and irredeemably horrible and should be killed with fire then nuked from orbit just to be sure. Drippy hippie AOR at its worst. Like a bad Joan Baez without the talent.

    S.... O....

This has no structure. Doesn't even sound like a written song. More like she's making it up as she goes along. Random chord and tempo changes. A sort-of chorus that pops in with no warning in unusual spots. I'm surprised Cooper even considered this good enough to cover. Thank God he did

  22. E.... S....

i like folks interpretations of songs. i like em all. judy has chops though!

  23. D.... F....

one of my all time favorite albums. it came out when I was learning to play guitar long ago, I played along with it every day.

  24. T.... ....

A very nice surprise - a bit late, so sorry :) I love all versions, Rolf's is great too.

  25. b.... ....

Awful, had to turn it off. Give me Alice Cooper's far superior version any day.

    b.... ....

Lets just say it was best left to 'Alice'

  26. L.... B....

    She covered Alice's song.

    L.... B....

No, the song was written and originally done by Rolf Kempf. Judy's version came out about four years before Alice Cooper's.

    L.... B....

Believe me, I know what I'm saying. It's ALICE!

    L.... B....

Oh, so you're one of those "alternative facts" people...

    L.... B....

    Yes. Who's Judy Collins?

  27. P.... Z....

Judy, I love this version of your song.
I just wish was a live version by you.
I think the Alice Cooper group did a fantastic rendition of it.
Thank you for a beautiful career.

  28. H.... ....

First time hearing this after only knowing the Cooper version all my life. I'm kind of flabbergasted at how different it is.

  29. j.... e....

This version SUCKS! Alice Coopers version is so much better!

    j.... e....

My favorite cut of Billion Dollar Babies. But I don't think it's fair to compare the two. Totally different context. The lyrics are even different. Might as well be two different songs.

  30. D.... C....

After knowing only the Alice Cooper Group version for about 40 years, I do like this one also and certainly enough to listen to some more JC. Maybe this one is as perfect for her album as the the ACG one was for BDB.

  31. C.... D....

Rolf Kempf is the original songwritter, and there si not worst o better version in Alice Cooper o Mrs. Collins; only diferent and personal inspirations of interpretation!!! Each one is his genre!!!!

    C.... D....

With all due respect, I disagree. This is absolutely awful by any reasonable measure. Cooper nails it; this is utter shite and confirms every single thing I thought about Judy Collins.

    C.... D....

Judy was on CBC's "Q" with Tom Power this week (December 5, 2019).  At eighty years old, she still has a great voice.

It's surprising to me that she has such a fondness for Canadian singer/songwriters.  Besides Rolf Kempf, she has recorded songs by Canucks Ed McCurdy, Gord Lightfoot, Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen (Any more?)

  32. l.... O....

Wow, blown away! I always thought this was an Alice Cooper original.

    l.... O....

logical Octopus This song was composed by Rolf Kempf.
    https://youtu.be/2FLEvosGeHA

    l.... O....

    logical Octopus freaked out...😳 ..i thought....fk

    l.... O....

Yes indeedy, Rolf Kempf, old news! Go see my Facebook and see a pic I took of Rolf at Mariposa '69, Toronto. Estelle Ste-Croix, the FB with pic of flowers and me with my long grey hair, as there are 2 FB's circulating under my name, one is not active, one is! The little face you are seeing right now is the non active one... FB and it's little capricious silliness, being what it is!

    l.... O....

It says right on the label who wrote it.

    l.... O....

@NoiseAnnoys I would imagine most people now have only heard the song either on the radio or online and have never even seen the album, let alone read the credits on it.

  33. R.... F....

My favorite Judy Collins song. I played this album to death.

    R.... F....

Richard Fisher...I'm glad your DEAD...This ******Garbage Ass****** song killed me also.

  34. d.... d....

thats horrible..alice cooper killed this..sometimes covers better then originals

    d.... d....

BULLSHIT, Alice Coopers version, is MUCH BETTER

    d.... d....

I think dunky dog meant Alice's version was better. "Killing" it in this case being a good thing.

  35. t.... ....

Rolf's version sounds a lot like David Bowie in his Ziggy Stardust phase.

    t.... ....

    It was recorded in 2002.

  36. F.... T....

Don't know how anyone can say this is terrible.  Judy's voice here soars incredibly and yes, she was the first to realize what a great song it is and the first to cover it.

    F.... T....

    This isn't a cover dude...

  37. R.... H....

Can't even listen to this for than 10 seconds. The Coop owned it!

    R.... H....

    Do Ron...Yep...This shit is ******GARBAGE******

    R.... H....

Wow. No accounting for taste. It is hardly garbage. You just don't like it. It's not like Judy Collins is a lousy musician

    R.... H....

Harmoniabalanza...LMFAO, You kidding me. It is TOTALLY GARBAGE. Man this Brawd had only one song that made it to the number 8 slot with the hit Both Sides Now (Written by Joni Mitchell) The rest of her stuff is folk music garbage. If she was so talented she would have had TONS of number one hits that SHE wrote, instead of singing everyone else music.

    R.... H....

I dunno, that Alice brawd sounds like a guy.

  38. C.... S....

Sorry, I can't even get all the way through this awful version of Rolf Kemp's song. Alice Cooper Rules when it comes to this tune, most other tunes as well.

  39. D.... ....

Love both versions, but I think it's great when an artist does a cover and makes it completely different, as if it were their own song.

    D.... ....

    @DefLeppardRulesRock I agree

  40. C.... G....

I can't even listen to a minute of this...I'm going back to Alice's version!

    C.... G....

    Arrested development guy

  41. p.... ....

Amazing when I think about how I wasn't even a teenager yet when I listened to this LP over and over and over again. Classic LP and still sounds wonderful. Loved it all these years.

    p.... ....

I was 14 when I heard this and it released a storm of life in me. I became a singer too. This song has all the passion of performing in it, all the life force.

  42. m.... p....

This is a copy of Alice coopers

    m.... p....

Other way around.  Judy's was released in 1968 and Alice was 1973, but both were covers.

Rolf Kempf did the original version.

  43. r.... ....

Alice Cooper turned this song into a rock anthem and he did a damn good job of it.

    r.... ....

No, Alice turned this song into a good song.  He's much easier to listen to than this version.

    r.... ....

@rodentcafeteria Both of you, at the time Alice Cooper did this song, Alice Cooper was a band and a better band than Alice Cooper the solo act ever has been.

    r.... ....

@Bill Griffin And some people say Ozzy with Black Sabbath was better than Ozzy the solo artist.  What's your point?  I know the song was done by Alice Cooper (the band) before Alice the solo artist.  It's still a great interpretation and one hell of an opening number.

    r.... ....

    @rodentcafeteria I agree with that 120%

  44. T.... ....

By far the best version. Sorry, Alice is just early talent-free shock-rock. Oh yeah, I saw him live 40+ years ago. Just not impressed.

    T.... ....

@Do Ron Agree with TurtleWeasle.  Judy's version is incredible.

    T.... ....

@TurtleWeasle I know this is an old comment, but it's ironic that someone would claim that Alice is "early Talent-Free" while praising Judy Collins whose career is built around copying other people's songs. But, that's none of my business haha.

    T.... ....

+Francisco “Disco Snuff” C I love you Alice Cooper fans. I was one around 1970. Judy's version of this song is the only one I've known. I don't think she's just fluffing the song. You might listen to her Marat/Sade medley to get a sense of her vocal interpretations. And the album -- "Who Knows Where the Time Goes" -- is a masterpiece. Recorded live in studio, Stephen Stills on guitar.

    T.... ....

+TurtleWeasel..Alice talent free..?,,Bob Ezrin Producer saw them in Kansas City & signed them on the spot.

  45. A.... G....

i like that artists use the original as inspiration, rather than copying it wholesale. otherwise why bother?

  46. D.... R....

    Sorry about your ear infection.

  47. T.... ....

Actually, hers was a remake also? I know that Rolf Kempf composed it

  48. T.... ....

This is a great tune. I like both the original and the Alice Cooper Group version. It would have been cliche had they redone it with gory lyrics etc. Instead they changed it in a way that was creative and respectful. I wonder if Judy had any input in the decision to let them remake it and what the final product would be. Probably not, probably upto the record company that owned it

  49. D.... R....

This sounds like a drunken cover version of Alice Cooper's version of the song! This is un-listenable.

    D.... R....

I've listened to 'Hello, Hooray' from both sides now, and this one SUCKS!!

    D.... R....

    @Bigga Hilarious comment!!!

  50. u.... ....

sweet judy blue eyes got nothing on sweet alice black eyes

  51. t.... ....

On the upload of Rolf's version (see my playlist), he comments that Alice and Bob Ezrin developed their cover from an acoustic demo. This came our several years before Alice's and you can tell that Judy uses her acoustic guitar as the basis for hers.

  52. G.... K....

This song always mesmerized me when I heard it. I had been living in Bavaria (Germany) in the mid 70's and whether driving to Vienna or Munich or south into Austria to sky I'd listen to this album and the song took me to another place. The song I loved the most on this album was "The First Boy I Loved"........

    G.... K....

Yeah this whole album really had a magical power.

  53. T.... A....

Thanks Judy but Alice made it better :)

  54. L.... ....

    Nicely said.

  55. R.... W....

all the stuff about taylor swift and sure shes good...new generation but man the 60's chicks were the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
