Collins, Judy - Hello, Hooray Lyrics

Wow, was not expecting this; only recently learned Cooper's version is a cover. Cooper's cover is great, and the better version (imo), but I have to wonder how he listened to this and came up with what he did or that he even heard potential cover material in this song.

This is just too weird.

Alice's version is 5000 times better.

All the comments about alice cooper...this one far superior and the original. Her voice was powerful and soft, great singer! I've loved this song since I first heard it. One of my favorites.

This makes my head hurt and my ears bleed! Give me the Alice Cooper version over this, not even on beat, garbage any day!!!

I've never listened to anything by Alice Cooper, so I can't offer an opinion there. I bought Judy's album on vinyl the week it was released and I still listen to it. Beautiful, like all of her albums.

By Alice this song is an arena rocker. It is cool and creepy. If you can't dig creepy than you won't like Alice's version. Why not give it a try.

Alice Cooper group definitely deserved a writing credit on this one. This version is alright, but they sure changed it a hella lot and made it so much better!

What a load of crap. Makes me realize what a genius Alice cooper is. He took this song and made it into a brilliant anthemic rock epic. This version couldn't punch itself out of s paper bag. It's awful

Totally underrated version of a Rolf Kempf a song. Never even want to hear Alice Cooper's version. Ok. , noww I did after folks here say that its great. ha ah . what a joke. Nowhere as good as JC. Her whole album is a bloody classic.

JC has her moments, but Alice absolutely perfected this song and it will always be known as his.

I was in shock when I heard that Judy Collins performed this before Alice Cooper. I like Judy Collins, but I'm having trouble getting into her version. It does have some good moments. The Alice Cooper version is pure genius.

Her lyrics are deeper and more interesting than AC's, which are pretty adolescent and predictable. This is much more
about the artist's nature (or maybe someone manic) and drive to live at a very high pitch of connection.

I don't know why everybody hates this version so much. Yes, it's not Alice, but this isn't terrible. Honestly, as far as I'm concerned Judy's and Alice's versions of this song are completely different. And also, neither of them wrote it, so it's not like they have any real ownership over it. Both versions are good.

Oh, it really is terrible, in a floaty, cheesecloth, joss stick, muesli and knit your own goat's cheese hippie way. It's completely, absolutely and irredeemably horrible and should be killed with fire then nuked from orbit just to be sure. Drippy hippie AOR at its worst. Like a bad Joan Baez without the talent.

This has no structure. Doesn't even sound like a written song. More like she's making it up as she goes along. Random chord and tempo changes. A sort-of chorus that pops in with no warning in unusual spots. I'm surprised Cooper even considered this good enough to cover. Thank God he did

My favorite cut of Billion Dollar Babies. But I don't think it's fair to compare the two. Totally different context. The lyrics are even different. Might as well be two different songs.

After knowing only the Alice Cooper Group version for about 40 years, I do like this one also and certainly enough to listen to some more JC. Maybe this one is as perfect for her album as the the ACG one was for BDB.

Rolf Kempf is the original songwritter, and there si not worst o better version in Alice Cooper o Mrs. Collins; only diferent and personal inspirations of interpretation!!! Each one is his genre!!!!

With all due respect, I disagree. This is absolutely awful by any reasonable measure. Cooper nails it; this is utter shite and confirms every single thing I thought about Judy Collins.

Judy was on CBC's "Q" with Tom Power this week (December 5, 2019).  At eighty years old, she still has a great voice.

It's surprising to me that she has such a fondness for Canadian singer/songwriters.  Besides Rolf Kempf, she has recorded songs by Canucks Ed McCurdy, Gord Lightfoot, Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen (Any more?)

Don't know how anyone can say this is terrible.  Judy's voice here soars incredibly and yes, she was the first to realize what a great song it is and the first to cover it.

Man this Brawd had only one song that made it to the number 8 slot with the hit Both Sides Now (Written by Joni Mitchell) The rest of her stuff is folk music garbage. If she was so talented she would have had TONS of number one hits that SHE wrote, instead of singing everyone else music.

Sorry, I can't even get all the way through this awful version of Rolf Kemp's song. Alice Cooper Rules when it comes to this tune, most other tunes as well.

Love both versions, but I think it's great when an artist does a cover and makes it completely different, as if it were their own song.

Amazing when I think about how I wasn't even a teenager yet when I listened to this LP over and over and over again. Classic LP and still sounds wonderful. Loved it all these years.

I was 14 when I heard this and it released a storm of life in me. I became a singer too. This song has all the passion of performing in it, all the life force.

@Bill Griffin And some people say Ozzy with Black Sabbath was better than Ozzy the solo artist.  What's your point?  I know the song was done by Alice Cooper (the band) before Alice the solo artist.  It's still a great interpretation and one hell of an opening number.

+Francisco “Disco Snuff” C I love you Alice Cooper fans. I was one around 1970. Judy's version of this song is the only one I've known. I don't think she's just fluffing the song. You might listen to her Marat/Sade medley to get a sense of her vocal interpretations. And the album -- "Who Knows Where the Time Goes" -- is a masterpiece. Recorded live in studio, Stephen Stills on guitar.

This is a great tune. I like both the original and the Alice Cooper Group version. It would have been cliche had they redone it with gory lyrics etc. Instead they changed it in a way that was creative and respectful. I wonder if Judy had any input in the decision to let them remake it and what the final product would be. Probably not, probably upto the record company that owned it

This sounds like a drunken cover version of Alice Cooper's version of the song! This is un-listenable.

On the upload of Rolf's version (see my playlist), he comments that Alice and Bob Ezrin developed their cover from an acoustic demo. This came our several years before Alice's and you can tell that Judy uses her acoustic guitar as the basis for hers.

This song always mesmerized me when I heard it. I had been living in Bavaria (Germany) in the mid 70's and whether driving to Vienna or Munich or south into Austria to sky I'd listen to this album and the song took me to another place. The song I loved the most on this album was "The First Boy I Loved"........

Yeah this whole album really had a magical power.
