Collins, Judy - Dreamers Lyrics

My name, it is Maria
My daughter is a dreamer
She says that she is worried
That she will have to leave
When I was only twenty
I crossed the burning border
I came to find a good life
And brought my daughter here

When I came to America
I hoped life would be better
For me and for my daughter
And here I worked for you
I harvested the peaches
In Northern California
And then in Colorado
My family and me

This land was made by dreamers
And children of those dreamers
We came here for democracy and hope
Now all we have is hope

My husband is a good man
He is no raping criminal
His hands are rough and scarred now
From digging in the earth
My daughter loves her father
And he was always gentle
He too came from Jalisco
To find what freedom's worth

But will you send her back now
To live in fear and terror
She is our only daughter
Whose dreams have been our vow
We worked to pay our way here
We gave our youth and promise
And in return you force us
To go back to the wall

This land was made by dreamers
And children of those dreamers
We came here for democracy and hope
Now all we have is hope

My name, it is Maria
My daughter is a dreamer
She says that she is worried
That she will have to leave

Miss Collins would think differently if her son was killed by an illegal immigrant like mine was in 2013. There is nothing that will ever bring him back.

  3. a.... L....

Some come to kill us infidels unfortunately, like the fallen on the Naval Station in Tallahassee Fl. Not everyone who comes here seeks democracy. We must be careful and vigilant

  4. M.... ....

THANK YOU JUDY COLLINS, for stepping up to write this powerful, important song!!! History will prove you correct GOD BLESS YOU JUDY!!!

  5. D.... L....

Such a haunting, beautiful song. Many people probably agree (sadly): they are good enough to work here at the jobs others do not want, but not good enough to be citizens; how sad.

  6. l.... ....

She is now 80, & she can DEFINITELY still sing!!!!!! Honestly, I am still VERY surprised that President Toddler has not banned this song from YouTube yet!!!!!!

    l.... ....

President Toddler -that really nailed it! - Toddler -1. Tantrums, 2. Diapers, 3. Very Limited Vocabulary. On a happier note, I got to meet and briefly chat with Collins  a number of years ago after her concert her in San Francisco. She was unbelievably gracious, kind FUNNY with me!! I told her she was singing at the top of her game and she was very moved by what I said. The personification of class and grace.

Mesmerising and haunting at the same time. The voice of an angel.

As I said below, Judy Collins' voice is incredibly beautiful. And it is wonderful that, after all these years, she hasn't lost her social conscience. It happens to people with age and with wealth. They lose their compassion and don't fight for those who are being treated unjustly, especially by the government. Judy Collins didn't do that; she knows that the law has always been that anyone born in a country is automatically a citizen of that country.
Back in the 1850's, my own grandfather, who spoke with an English accent and lived in England until he came to the United States, was born in Ireland, and thus had dual citizenship. His father was working at an Irish factory, overseeing the installation of a machine part that he has invented, and his family accompanied him to Ireland. I am not sure if he was premature or what but I do know he was born in Ireland and, thus, was an Irish citizen. It used to make me laugh when he'd say he was truly Irish in his English accent.
Too bad that one president is trying to change what has always been. Interestingly, that same Grandfather came over to the US on a ship with his wife and two of his children. He and my grandmother then went on to have my father and another child. And yet, I thought of them all as being Americans!

Judy Collins' voice is beautiful. It would be beautiful is she was forty-five, as she was the last time we saw her live, or twenty, as she was when we first saw her in person. Her voice is as flawless and perfect and if there has been any change in it in the last sixty years, it's that it's even more perfect. She sang that song a cappella - no instruments - and she sounded as ethereal as she always has. God bless her for continuing to share her beautiful instrument with another generation!

Its great Singer songwriters like Judy Collins who give us Hope

  11. J.... M....

Illegal is Illegal no matter how you sing it. Bleeding hearts for all that is wrong. America has immigration laws for a reason; as do other countries.

    J.... M....

Compassion & reason are not illegal and definitely not wrong. There is no greater evil than the darkness in one's heart....

    J.... M....

@MrDLOC11 Bless you. That's what Jesus was trying to tell the Pharisees...(and us) . They wanted everyone to follow a long list of rules, and He tried to tell them it's about where your heart is.
Even His followers today have trouble understanding that.

Thank God! Judy sang this beautiful moment in our history last Sunday in Texas. Thank you, Judy, for keeping up the fight for Justice and the defense of underdogs and peaceful people around the world. It is a point of view that the privileged lose sight of in their prosperous lives. Please, keep reminding us. Woody is dead, but you live on. Mr. Stills was a perfect compadre.

  14. J.... L....

I pray that God will break our hearts for one another and for the dreamers. I pray that God will be merciful and count the number of those within His church who confess the sin of silence and collusion with an evil regime.I pray that God will give this nation another chance on Tuesday to seek justice and righteousness and to turn away from hate.

  16. S.... D....

"Here, I worked for you..." Such a heartfelt song for today's pioneers of dreams. Thank you, Ms.Collins, for the courage of your art to witness hope in the dreams of laborers. Gracias. Victor Jara is alive in the spirit by this song.

    Quelle voie .enorme

  18. K.... W....

She got a standing ovation for this song at the Kent Stage in Kent, Ohio. We are all descendants of people who came here because of a dream.

  19. P.... F....

Oh what a voice, soaring, fragile, etherial and clear. I had the privilege of hearing her sing this last night at the Music Instrument Museum (MIM) in Phoenix. During her singing the audience was enchanted and silent, and afterwards during the standing ovation I saw many wipe tears from their eyes. Oh Judy, you press our hearts with hope.

  20. 1.... ....

Such a beautiful but sadly actual song. Hopefully one day the dreamers will wake up in their choice.

  21. D.... H....

What else is there to say except we love You, Ms. Collins - You are a light of hope and decency.

  22. D.... H....

God Bless You for this Ms. Collins. Incredible.

  23. J.... J....

Voice for the voiceless. Thank you for this, Judy Collins.

  24. C.... S....

Judy Collins sang this in Clearwater, Fl., earlier this year -- the audience was dead silent as she sang it and we gave her a standing ovation at the end. She was incredible and this song is so moving.

    C.... S....

She sang it tonight in Phoenix. Same reaction here. It brought tears to my eyes. Haunting and so honest.

    C.... S....

she is 80 years old... she sang this live? wow... her voice sounds like a 20 year old... amazing..

  25. b.... ....

    beautiful melody...horseshit lyrics...
only fools and Leftist/Globalists conflate legal and illegal immigration (in the culture eradicating millions)....or cheerlead the gangsters, rapists, drug dealers, murderers, burglars, thieves and welfare cheats, the Racist Revanchistas of La Raza...the "Wolves"... who sneak in along with the politically docile, 3rd world "Sheep" (nannies, gardeners, "peach-pickers") that the Left foolishly focuses on to the exclusion of all else (as they've been trained to do)

  26. J.... ....

    Thank you, Ms. Collins.

  27. T.... B....

A deep powerful message from the great and my dearly Judy Collins.
    "Strange days indeed."

  28. J.... J....

After all these years, Judy Collins still impress's me with her stunning voice, and meaningful and haunting songs. At 79, she still sounds incredible! Love her music forever.
