Collier, Jacob - In My Room Lyrics

There's a world where I can go to tell my secrets to
In my room, in my room
In my room, in my room

In this world I lock out all my worries and my fears
In my room, in my room
In my room, in my room

Do my dreaming and my scheming, lie awake and pray
Do my crying and my sighing, laugh at yesterday

Now it's dark and I'm alone but I won't be afraid
In my room, in my room
In my room, in my room

Do my dreaming and my scheming, lie awake and pray
I do my crying and I do my sighing, laugh at yesterday

Now it's dark and I'm alone but I won't be afraid
In my room, in my room (yeah)
In my room, in my room

In my room, in my room
In my room, in my room
In my room, in my room
In my room, in my room

Thank you Ehis Ilozobhie for plugging me to this guy's music😂

  2. T.... P....

    ehis put me on #coolkidsclique

  3. m.... w....

sorry dude but this is absolutely shit, Brian Wilson put his heart and soul into making this record and you try to kill it, this is not entertainment, and get rid of that hat it makes you look a proper prick

  4. V.... ....

He didn't understand the original, this is just pornography...

the only guy I've heard doing justice to Brian Wilson is Bill Frisell

  5. A.... M....

Commenting should not cease. „Yeaaah.....“. 💍🙏

  6. P.... S....

I've only heard two covers of Brian's music that are WORTHY. This is one of them (the other by Kat Edmunson). Fifty years out and the world is starting to catch-up with intelligent approaches to the music. WELL DONE, Jacob!

  7. B.... F....

i remember first hearing this version on the radio in Washington like 2 years ago which made me look you up and im not disappointed.

  8. D.... ....

Hey Jacob why do Major 2nds and 9ths feel so fuzzy and warm? I’m currently addicted to them... Looking for some help 😂

    D.... ....

A justly intonated Maj 2nd is 9:8 in terms of frequency from the tonic. Looks dissonant, but is rooted by the even 8, which leads to a more clear fit between the tonic and a third!

  9. D.... L....

This boy is a God. ♡

  10. T.... S....

It is soooo refreshing to finally come across a REAL Artist. This young man has given me hope that true musicianship still exists.

  11. L.... B....

That piano solo made me cry

  12. T.... G....

I converted 7gigs of music to 320mbps mp3 in an attempt to reduce space needed on my phone. I used this to compare and now I want to die.

    T.... G....

Actually I think the music on YouTube is also coded in mp3

  13. I.... m....

God damn.... still not as good as Beach Boys’ comp though... 😂

    Sooooo many voices ....

  16. G.... G....

"Now its dark and I'm alone but I won't be afraid".....that verse captures the pain and courage of lonliness imo..speaking from experience😟😦

    G.... G....

I think the line is more about the fact that in his "music room", although he is alone, he doesen't care because he is in his room. But he has said that he wants people to put there own meaning to his lyrics.☺

    G.... G....

@George Russell Music This song was actually written by Brian Wilson. This version is quite breathtaking though, and it definitely shows a different shade to those lyrics than the Beach Boys version

    G.... G....

The fundamental difference being that Brian Wilson in his room felt protected from his violent father whereas Jacob coming from a loved and secure familiar background could unfold his unbelievable musical talent in his individually composed room. Jacob illustrates this difference in his melancholic cover version.

  17. A.... M....

Jacob is a great mixer but there is some dominant gospel feeling in it.

  18. G.... ....

This song is by Brian Wilson

Good, but doesn't quite bring back the memories. Your voice, many harmony tracks vs 4 voices.

A lot of people saying "no talent, just electronics"... come on, man!! This guy's unbelievable! I wonder how these people define talent. Jacob's amazing sensitivity in using all the elements available in music makes him one of a kind. I hope he continues to push the boundaries of music!!

    M.... O....

    Manu Ojeda
this isn't unique at all , or one of a kind. it's a rehash of early 80s electronics. Yello, Art of Noise, etc.there was a lot of this going on.

    M.... O....

Quality of a musician isn't entirely about his or her ability to create something 100% unique. It's about a musician's ability to create sound that effectively expresses what it is that he or she means to express. Jacob's technical skills and knowledge of theory are incredible, as you can quickly see by listening to his music, but the thing that makes him such a truly incredible musician is the way in which he uses these talents so purposefully to produce not only the musical component but also the emotional component of his songs. He very clearly puts a lot of work into the details of his music to produce a certain feeling. Small decisions that he makes are very intentional for the feeling he wants to achieve in his songs, as he has said in his interviews many times. Similar styles have been seen before, sure, but I have yet to see those artists produce the range of music that Jacob has, especially with the intent to use the variety to express different things in the way that he does.

    M.... O....

they don't understand that these are separately recorded vocal tracks which were then mixed with the instrumental parts. I think they are confused because this isa recording where more is possible than live - live he uses loopers and possibly a vocoder for chorusing

  28. T.... U....

Doesn't take any talent. too much electronics enhancing and harmonizing.

    T.... U....

Atomic. Devil. Dan T there are five things i hear in this composition. Voice, shaker, hand clap, piano

    T.... U....

He is singing all those lines. They were mixed after he sang them. He won 2 Grammies for songs on this album. Not this song but still BEST ARRANGEMENT, INSTRUMENTAL OR A CAPPELLA ; BEST ARRANGEMENT, INSTRUMENTS AND VOCALS.

    T.... U....

It's NOT electronic. It's stacked pretracked vocals and instruments. You can see him doing it elsewhere on his channel.

    T.... U....

The OP needs to check out the rest of Jacob Collier’s music on YouTube. He is a multi instrumentalist that has his foot in a cappella, Jazz, funk, experimental, neo soul, and beyond all at once. He composes, arranges, and produces his own music. He is in the middle of releasing a 4 volume, 40 song album over the course of the next year, which he only started writing last January. His understanding of music and harmony is unparalleled. And he is only 24 years old. I’m convinced that his brain must process information differently than the rest of us. Maybe this style of music is not your cup of tea, which is ok, but c’mon, give credit where credit is due. His talent and creativity is staggering

    T.... U....

  29. X.... M....

    great interpretation! Thank you!

  30. T.... ....

Robot jazz. Oh people, have you lost the feeling??? What, may I ask, is music evolving into? Let your human soul guide you, PLEASE. STOP THE COMPUTER!!! Any deniers, go listen to Trans, Neil Young. God, I hope Neil Young will not change his ways. Do you compute?

    T.... ....

TangeOrheen what exactly is electronic about this? He’s just doing multiple recordings and putting them together into one.

    T.... ....

Are you dumb he just multi tracked and there is nothing wrong with computer generated noise as long as it's used correctly and apropriately, of which jacob is the prime example of.

    T.... ....

Neil Young will never do anything BUT change, it’s what he has always done, Trans being a great example....

    T.... ....

Why do you not feel anything when you hear this? I feel, warm, cozy, accepted. Maybe you're your own problem.

    T.... ....

Imagine you master many instruments, have superb musical talent, perfect pitch, a soulful voice and a rich array of harmonic fantasy. It is then an absolutely legal and convincing way to use computer technology to create unique musical compositions.

  31. S.... A....

Love the work Jacob does but this just doesn't fit the song. He's fantastically talented but this is just a terrible interpretation

    S.... A....

Shane Arnold The meaning of „my room“ is existentially different for Jacob compared to Brian. Brian was a refugee in his room whereas for Jacob it was a womb from where he was born to delight the musical world.

not a big fan. it's unique but it's more creative when people make their own lyrics.

    b.... m....

His album contains plenty of his own lyrics.

    1 out of 1 million

    b.... m....

brian me Are... are you brian wilson?

    b.... m....

I do not thinks it's more creative when people make their own lyrics. Actually I know it's not. It take another world if creativity to create what we have here as opposed to just finding other words that have the same amount of syllables. I'm sure that the only reason you think that is because you don't truly know what Jacob has done. This is WAY more impressive than just changing the lyrics.

  40. R.... ....

  41. A.... A....

    DODIE OMG THANK YOU!!!

  42. a.... ....

    this shits gold

  43. G.... W....

love the harmonies in Collier's music

  44. I.... M....

Great craftsmanship and harmonic knowledge but is it me or does it sound like an old vinyl close harmony group from the 60s played at the wrong speed? Just sounds wrong...

    I.... M....

@Viejotrueno Same goes to you ;) I know who I'd rather trust Quincy Jones his opinion over a random stranger online that has something against Jacob Collier apparently.

    I.... M....

@THE UNITS DEE XA ster So a closing door is more innovative than closing scissors? Plz explain.

    I.... M....

@Viejotrueno And where was the fallacy?

    I.... M....

@RinZ It's called argument from authority. Trying to be right about something based on what somebody said is a fallacy, no matter how expert or famous is that 'somebody'. To prove something you have to show solid arguments, not quoting Quincy Jones. You could quote Beethoven and that wouldn't mean anything

    I.... M....

@Viejotrueno Then maybe say that is what you mean in your first argument. Cuz what you said in your first argument sounds even more like an argument from authority. And don't try to explain a fallacy to me, entitled prick.

  45. k.... w....

Just heard this on the radio, had to google different versions to finally find it!!!

  46. N.... T....

I think that this is my favorite piece of music on the album, it needs a music video!

    N.... T....

Nakul Tiruviluamala it’s actually a cover of a beach boys song

  47. J.... T....

Thumbs:DOWN on this song! Entire 1st minute + sounds like song is on tape machine running slo- motion! Rest of song sounds similar!!!

    J.... T....

I think that’s what he was going for. Not so much the idea of “how funky can I make this”, or “how jazzy can I make this”. This and In the Real Early Morning habe that really nice, simplistic style. That’s what makes it shine, because he has all these songs that do so much. This goes to show that he doesn’t have to be so flashy to make an amazing song. And a lot of people really are nostalgic about that old tape machine sound

    J.... T....

To add to that, it’s a cover of a song that was recording on a tape machine

  48. D.... C....

It's the chill songs on this album that really shine!

  49. M.... S....

The auto tune vocals are weird and meh. Gets really good about half way through when the piano part comes in.

    M.... S....

No need for autotune, this boy is simply amazing. Check out the interviews or the masterclasses he performs. Hard to believe... But true!
    Enjoy

    M.... S....

Atomic Dan - I have over 2 decades of audio production experience predating digital apps and such AND I was in the army. Military design & engineering are not the same thing as audio engineering and being able to build an electronic device does not make you an audio expert. The army doesn't need vocoders - how stupid do you think people are? The vocoder was invented in the late 20's and can synthesize speech. It predates the digital era and was commonly used for chorusing and other multivoice effects in the 1970's before the invention of autotune. A vocorder is a machine. Autotune is software. No one uses or used a vocorder to pitch correct which is the main intended function of auto tune (although a lot of crappy producers added it to everything for the robotic effect it creates) - however it only works on a single line at a time. And it's software for use on digital audio editing suites not a separate machine like a looper or a vocorder. Anyone who cannot distinguish between chorused vocal lines and a pitch-shifted single vocal line has got to have a tin ear. Just because you claim to design things for the military and government and insult people doesn't make you an audio production expert. If they have you building musical equipment then I'm the Pope. Besides which this was tracked as several vocal lines on an SM 58 pus the various musical parts - all by the same guy. He plays bass, piano, drums and he has amazing vocal tone which if you bothered to listen to him live you would hear. But Collie not a pop artist like the Beach Boys and he doesn't write his own stuff - but he *is* a genius arranger, just as Brian Wilson is. And he was something like 20 when he did this album for which he won 2 Grammies. The Academy doesn;'[t give out awards to untalented hacks.

    M.... S....

I hope everyone is aware that he only uses the vocoder live and not on this album. There’s no autotune. He just doubles certain notes, but they are all his natural voice.

    M.... S....

@Mason Hunn This is what I was gonna say. There are no pitch effects here that I hear. Just a lot of layered pristine vocal tracks and rich harmonies. Don't dilute his harmonization skills with saying he's using autotune or vocoders.

    M.... S....

Neither Autotune nor Vocoder in this recording. Absolutely ridiculous.

  50. D.... S....

    wtf is this shit?

    D.... S....

you made my day with this answer

Words only graze the way he bends time and melody, weaves harmonies. It feels unearthly, like he's figured a way to defy gravity and transcend human limitation. I'm not religious, but this feels like a musical laying on of hands, having your soul remade. I've played it over and over and keep playing it because this more than music, it's a healing.
