Collective Soul - Good Place To Start Lyrics
There's a guy with a gun
He swears he's the chosen one
I think his pride is swollen with inflammation
We got weed we can't smoke
But the prescriptions are afloat
So, let's get hi-high, hi-high
Let's love where we've been
And love where we are
Yeah, that's a good place to start
A good place to start
There's tourists in flocks
I think we killed lady luck
Or at least that's what they say
And there's moments I can't solve
But I take all these moments day by day
So, let's get hi-high, hi-high
Let's love where we've been
And love where we are
Yeah, that's a good place to start
A good place to start
Whose rules are we breaking down?
Who rules the world now, now?
Let's get hi-high, hi-high
Let's love where we've been
And love where we are
That's a good place to start
A good place
Let's get hi-high, hi-high
Let's love who we've been
And love who we are
Yeah, that's a good place to start
A good place to start
That's a good place to start
Yeah, a good place to start
That's a good place to start

Let's love who we've been and love who we are .... yeah, that's a good place to start :) Love this song !
Sounds like Collective Soul with Tom Petty and Cat Stevens. I saw them live for the first time in October of 2019 and loved it!
Great song I love this band and what they stand for.
A good place to fart
You knocked it out of the park again CS .. Nice ..
Tune 😎
this song is more pop than rock, the opposite would not be better :/
old good collective soul of greeting from Poland!!!!!!!!!!
sounds like Cat Stevens at times

i love that high flying guitar soles and rocking voice
I really like this band:)
When you guys coming back to Chicago and Naperville ?
I REALLY LIKE THE SONG. YOU STILL KICK ASS . SOUNDS LIKE YOU, THAT'S IT!! GOOD JOB BOYS. GREETINGS FROM CHILE
Fantastic song. Could have been a hit 20 years ago. Probably my favourite off the whole album
Very good song!! A little disappointed the album doesn't have one song that has that 'heavy' sound. Missing that 90's flavor.
Kyle Bardoe The first 3 are all pretty heavy in my opinion
@colemann76 That's what I was thinking also...it's not a death metal band lol
Gel, Precious Declaration and Heavy are some of their best riffs. They haven’t written a song with a cool riff like that in a while.
I love CS...this, however, is awful. 🤦🏻♀️
It's great......
That's like; your opinion, man.
collective soul don't ever do a bad song always great love them
there so cool!!
Glad to see the positive comments because I'm a huge CS fan, but not of this song.
Thank you God for giving us your gift of Collective Soul!
Ed and Boys have solidified a spot in infamy!!!
_fatastic song_
25 years later and this band still rocks.
I am high on this. Nice tune to strike a music ear!
Y yo no os puedo admirar más, por seguir, seguir y siempre volver!!! Tenéis una fan incondicional en España para siempre, como vosotros. Siempre. Abrazos!!❤
Back in the 90's, Collective Soul were able to stand out in what was already a great decade of music, because they were one of the more innovative bands. I think into the 21st century, their sound has mellowed somewhat, as they're no longer flying the flag for the post-grunge era Rock sound they once had, but it's all good, and still a pleasure to hear the band creating, and following their own evolution. Ed sounds like Cat Stevens in sections of this song, and I love that. Good stuff.
I think they've got a very diverse selection here.
Some mellow, some heavier.
I think after 25 years, they could hold to their history like Metallica and feign anger, or see life in black and white, being a bit edgy and a bit grateful.
Awesome, love the song... Good Place To Start — come see me in Las Vegas
The melody kind of reminds me of When the Water Falls. Looking forward to the album.
4 shows and counting, I'll see them whenever they are here...
Is this about all the news about medical marijuana? If it is it's awesome. It is a good place to start. Everyone's eyes are getting more open about things more than just marijuana. Especially the younger generations.
This is a song Ed wrote after Tom Petty died (so yes, I think it is a nod to him, and kind of a statement about how easy it is to get your hands on opioids but marijuana is still outlawed in most states). Also, the lyrics “There’s a guy with a gun, he swears he’s the chosen one” is about mass shootings
Man, how much longer until this album comes out? Can not wait.

Classic Collective Soul. Catchy as hell and more melody-based than anything on the previous record. That chorus reminds me of early 70s Albert Hammond.
Bienvenidos, me encantó, gracias..... Aqui su fan por siempre de México
<^> Thank Youuu!
Muy bueno
More pure genius. Inspiring tune.
I love it! So excited to see you in Denver!!❤️
You have very good thing here.
CS delivers yet again. Good stuff.
Absolutely love !!!! Collective soul never disappoints. Love you all. God bless.
@ Deena, Ill reply to you Deena you are so sweet. I love rock, now that Im reading the word I love t listen to CS. God Bless you and yours.
Sucks with the talking
I think it is fitting for the song
Seeing that it is a tribute of sorts to Tom Petty it makes sense
I love this song
Succes Collective Soul
The opening drumbeat reminds me of When Doves Cry
Let's get Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh!
Love this!!! With these guys since Shine...Always something fresh sounding.
Nice slide work on the guitar lead/fill. Sounds great, Collective Soul!
I don't think this is about drugs, I think he's saying be high on life by being with the ones you love and the ones that love you, and enjoying the experiences of life and then no matter what comes think on that and you will be high on life.
Thank you Sherlock. I'm glad 9 'Watsons' were enlightened by your sage words. State of America at work right here, folks.
Scott Magill no need to be a dick
I love your music and always will it's impossible for you guys to make bad music
Absolute love 💕
Are you going to sell a deluxe version of the new album?
Another great song
_Like seriously, this band would have to really try to make a bad song it’s so not in their nature_
Isaac Robertson How did u do italics like that?
_ before and after text like

See What You Started by Continuing was far from decent,IMO
@Isaac Robertson _Bob Saget_
Not sure if intentional, but as they age i seem to hear more Beatles influence. Can't wait to hear the rest of the album and see them in concert again. They are about the only band i wish to see live anymore. Them and Needtobreathe.
Long time Csoul fan. I'm calling it now, this will be a hit!
Purchased every album, never missed a concert that came through my town, but I do not like this song ‘let’s get high...’? Ugh!
I agree. My favourite band. Puchased every album. But not feeling this song at all. Hoping the rest of the new album is better. Sorry, CS - love you, but not this one.
Not a great song, but certainly not a bad song... And so what if his meaning is Pot? What's wrong with you people?
SMOKE WEED EVERYDAY! POT SMOKERS OF AMERICA UNITE!
@Lost Leopards Disagree with you but still love ya cuz that's a good place to start ;-)
@Lost Leopards never seen a pot head get in a bar fight thats for sure! ; )
Yes , Welcome Back Again!!
Welcome all again! As well!
"Lady Luck" I'm too homo for this
Ed Roland tiene la fórmula para hacer buenas canciones!!!
Blood I think is about family and relationship me think.
It's about friendship mostly.. When they made this album they got all their friends and family together for a BBQ and invited them to play music with them for jam sessions, etc.. And that's how this album was made..
Mega-catchy hook as always. The kings of melodica have done it again...
Phenomenal! Welcome back, fellas!
