Colin James - Tin Pan Alley Lyrics

They tell me tin pan alley
It's the roughest place 'n town
It's got cuttin' and shootin'
As soon as the sun goes down

Ohh...tell me
What kind of place can the alley be
Oh, every woman I guess
Lord, the alley takes away from me

When I need my baby
Well she can't be found
Well she got up early in the morning
She was ten pound alley bound

Ohh...tell me
What kind of place can the alley be
Oh, every woman I guess
Lord, the alley takes away from me

I heard a pistol shoot
Somebody groan
Some woman shot my baby
Left on that jokers arms

Ohh...tell me
What kind of place can the alley be
Oh, every woman I guess
Lord, the alley takes away from me

Ohh I'll really miss my baby
Because I really need my baby

Ohh I'll really miss my baby cause I really need my baby

First the guitar solos rip your face off

  12. S.... ....

Saw him in Edmonton circa 1987 when he seemed so young to look at but betrayed his years with soul of a blues man 3 times his age. I was working security before the concert and this dude tried to sneak in the back door. No pass or nothing. Did not recognize him (pre Internet ) told me he was with the band and that is when the pieces fell into place and I realized it was Colin James. I was super embarrassed. Good dude did not get mad. Great show and had his family (?) backstage afterwords.

    THAT TONE!

  55. 3.... ....

Great Canadian talent indeed.First saw Colin James at a bar in Kenora,Ontario,Canada called 'Shooters'.It was 1988 and just before the release of his first album.Prior to his performance in Kenora I had no idea who he was.I remember my jaw dropping when he opened up with a couple Stevie Ray Vaughn songs and absolutely nailed them.I was sold on his talent immediately.

Being a guitarist myself I just had to approach the table he was sitting at after the second set at which time we sparked up a conversation about guitars and amps.He was very approachable and landed up writing on the back of his empty 'Players' cigarette pack his guitar equipment setup & configuration,...which I still possess today in my Rock n'Roll scrap book.

During our conversation he also praised Stevie Ray Vaughn for taking him under his wing after SRV caught one of Colin's shows in western Canada. He said SRV took him down to Austin,Texas and introduced him to the right people which resulted in a record deal.

Just yesterday,Thursday,Oct.15,2015 I saw him perform for the 8th time at the London,Ontario,Canada at the first annual Octoberfest where Kim Mitchell opened up for him.It was good to see him perform again at the top of his game.I took 40 minutes of video that will be posted on YouTube shortly.

I believe this particular video footage was taken at the 'Walker Theatre' in Winnipeg,Manitoba,Canada which is where I saw one of his shows back in 1995 for his 'Bad Habits' tour. One of the best venues for live music that I have been in.

    Rock on Colin,...rock on!

Here's the link to the Oct.15,2015 London,Ontario,Canada show I uploaded:

    Texas flood isn't by srv

    S.... B....

    NOTby srv

  65. r.... ....

Great blues. Didn't know about him until today, somebody mentioned him on an SRV vid.

  66. B.... R....

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  67. i.... r....

    killer voice, killer blues

  68. G.... P....

    Wow! excellent blues

  69. P.... H....

I am one of the biggest SRV fan there is. My son Steven was born in March the year after SRV was taken from us and believe me, it's no coincidence that his name isSteven. That being said, I'm also a HUGE Colin James fan and I have to agree that they are equally talented. I do, however, prefer SR's gruffer, tar paperish voice.

  70. j.... r....

Def have to agree.Man has mad skills and frankly to compare is akin to judging blue and bluer. This cat has the soul to make ya feel it.Nuf said as far as i am concerned

  71. J.... M....

You must be Canadian? duh! I'm from California and I've been listening to Colin James since 95 with the Little Big Band Great FNG album but be didn't he also use the Room Full of Blues horns on that? He's great but as good as SRV maybe but to say that is classless since SRV has been gone for 24 years dip shit!!! SRV was the best ever but even he probably wouldn't be here with out Freddie King and Jimi Hendrisx so hopefully you get my point you classless fukl!!!

  72. d.... b....

colin james is playing the PNE outdoors ampitheatre August 22,

    don't be late after 8

  73. B.... H....

James was born in Regina, Saskatchewan. He and his band The Hoodoo Men opened for Stevie Ray Vaughan for several tour dates in the United States. According to legend, Vaughan himself suggested the stage name "Colin James", because when announced over arena P.A. systems, "Munn" sounded like "Mud". James also played guitar on Richard Marx's song "Thunder and Lightning".

  74. W.... W....

excellent guitariste, version sublime... son dernier live est tout simplement génial...
j'espère le voir un jour en Europe genre Montreux ;)....

  75. J.... S....

CJ is a unique stand alone talent ~ Great R&B with a heart for jazz as strong as Harry Connick Jr.'s. Vocal phrasing is the hook and the guitar work is the reel.

  76. P.... M....

I saw a video with SRV and he said that he was very impressed with CJ when he first met him, because he knew so much about the music styles of past legends.

  77. B.... B....

Colin toured with SRV. Stevie considered Colin his protege, which Colin considered an honor, but didn't think he was worthy of. I think they are both greats, but with different strengths.

  78. t.... ....

Some ppl have their head up their asses. James is my FAVE Kanuck, and SRV is my FAVE Texan (who taught me back in the day what Blues really was?) RAVEON COLIN!!!!!

  79. J.... S....

Great playin' smooth, beautiful feel and touches...and a voice to match. Enjoyed listening to this vid very much! :)

  80. L.... B....

Smooth by Colin and the Orchestra, Blues Deluxe, Stevie Ray Vaughn would Love it!

  81. F.... ....

asciutto, elegante, essenziale e gran tecnica. cuore. bravo.

  82. w.... ....

indeed..i am lucky enough to have seen SRV twice, and CJ countless times live...i am truly blessed.

  83. K.... ....

Way too cool. He can't be from this planet.

  84. h.... b....

nice !! so much feeling and he can really sing !!!!

  85. a.... ....

    i love this man!!!

  86. B.... H....

anyone know where this was filmed?

  87. M.... ....

....the reason I play guitar.....enough said....

  88. k.... ....

I don't play guitar, but i know what I enjoy listening to, and that is " great " music!!!!

  89. S.... B....

I made a comparison of Colin James with Stevie Ray Vaughn's brilliance and passion in his art and can you believe someone objected? Colin James is every bit and as brilliant a performer as SRV and I am a big SRV fan.

  90. S.... B....

Colin James the Canadian re-incarnation of Stevie Ray Vaughn. Such a voice built for blues and superb guitar work.

  91. g.... ....

Colin's music always sounds great, but when he plays the blues he takes it to another level!!!
    Smokin guitar!

  92. B.... ....

    Really Nice !! Killer !!!!!
