Colin James - Five Long Years Lyrics
Well I see ya
Holdin' hands with your lover
And you're makin' plans with each other
It fits real good on you
I didn't come to make things strange
'Cause there's a reason that things change
There's nothin' we can do
And it's been five long years
Since I've seen your lovely eyes
You girls have grown
She sees right through my thin disguise
You know I still love you
You knew I'd never change
Just the same
When you see me
Do you remember the times when we travelled
South of the borderline when love was young
Time was on our side
We danced
In the Rio Grande
And we listened to all the Mexican bands
Singin' songs of love
When our hearts were young, yeah
And it's been five long years
Since I've seen your lovely eyes
The girls have grown
She sees right through my thin disguise
You know I still love you
You knew I'd never change
And it's been five long years and I love you
Just the same
Oh, yeah
Five long years
Five long years
Five long years
Since I've seen your lovely eyes
Things have changed
You see right through my thin disguise
She sees right through me, yeah
You know I still love you
You knew I'd never change
And it's been five long years and I love you
Just the same
And it's been five long years and I love you
Just the same
And it's been five long years and I love you
Just the sa-a-a-a-a-me
Yes baby
Oh yeah
Five long years
Five long years

Five long years ... sing a song ... never change ... i love you just the same ... woiuuuuuu
FROM BC CANADA LOVE THIS SONG...... BEST ERA 80"S
DEMOCRATS PUMP-EACH-OTHER swell
This song is nostalgic for me, which came out in 1988 when I was entering college in Canada.
This man was made to do this, he's a gift to us all.
another hidden Canadian talented man/band so classy and vibrant
Sax makes the song, you don't here this song in the US..only hear it when I'm near the border by the St Lawrence Seaway
Seen him live in Prince George BC couple weeks ago with Barney bentall awesome concert he’s still got it
Just saw him live, he was awesome! From PG!
This song is pretty timeless, at least so far, released in the 80s? couldve been the 90s, couldve been the 00s, couldve been 3 years ago. The sound has hardly any date stamp on it, truly good rock'n'roll tune.
PsyLaxis 1988, it was released
It's been 30 long years and we love you just the same Colin!
I was born in the late 90s and I still prefer this old music it's just better than most of the dribble that they call music dont get me wrong some are catchy but when you can't understand the lyrics I say its dribble
Sure brings back some high school days
This song still rocks
still love this song
I SAW STEVIE RAY JUST BEFORE HE DIED,, IN CONCERT IN VANCOUVER, BC,,, WITH JOE COCKER,,,, GREATS,,, COLIN IS ONE OF THE BEST,, EVEN THOUGH I HAVE NEVER SEEN HIM LIVE,, PEACE OUT,,,, MIKE
He played the PNE in Vancouver in 1991 and the stands were nearly empty, which is really sad considering the concert was included in the PNE admission price. We had a great time with nearly front row seats, rocking it out with a great musician who's even better live than he is on tape. Colin had such great energy even though he was playing to a nearly empty concert bowl.
The most overplayed song of Canadian radio for the past 25 years. It's not horrible, but it's not actually that good, yet I hear it daily!
Tracy .... This is my heart
I was 2 years old when this first came on the radio. I grew up with this song. <3
1988 is the year I was born. I like hearing songs that came out that year!
Still listening 2018!! Wow 30 years already😮
Rest in Peace Jeff Healy
That was in 1988
Omg I met him at maxx"s on Broardway
my god this is absolute shit. How dare this asswad use the title of a blues standard for this shit.
Seen him twice in concert back 'in the day'. A great showman. Super talented guitarist. Under-ratted.
THANK YOU MY FRIEND I LOVE YOUR SONG
RIP Kim B. Oct 14 1964-Nov8 2012. 😿💔💕💖💍

Great song!
2017 & this song still rocks !
this song is going to be thirty years old next year
I love this song reminds me of my ex husband Charlie Wayne Davidson
My huckleberry works the door for them in 1988 he said to the other four bouncers yous are babysitting me tonight I am watching this guy he rocks.
Loving the Sax in this song, love Colin James
Can't count the number of times I heard this one on Canadian classic rock radio as a kid.
Regina, Saskatchewan Canada STAND UP!!
Ryan Shordee haha haha
As a matter of fact, Collin James and his band sometimes rent out my brother's recording studio. It's called Soundhouse, it's located just south of Downtown Vancouver.
244K hits... really??? That's messed....
play's blue's now a day's still good
agreat Canadian boy
great tune.use to listen to this back in 86-87 all the time.sets the mood to party and cruise...cheers...ken.....vancouver still rocks
This song reminds me of a three year old, Oilers and Bruins playing, power outage in Boston Garden, seeding time, drought, and tent caterpillars lol. 1988 to a T.
2:44 one of my favourite guitar solos of all time!
classic rock at its best
The best.... great song.
love you,...Merry Christmas, ...!
5 f@^*n long long years. Lest we forget
this song gets me pissed off over the title and meaning. I wouldn't love my ex the same after 5 years. you know she's been washing someone else's dick during that time.
Crimsonhalo lmao Jesus Christ...
Crimsonhalo This got dark.
Crimsonhalo what if it was your fault?
I was in college in 1995/6 in Toronto, Canada, and the student council got him in for an afternoon informal concert. come and go as you wish. we stayed and watched the whole thing. Good times and great musician. Every time I hear these songs it takes me back to those fun days.
+bababooey7576 awesome, im from Toronto also :)
@Sandra Jensen North York, technically, but still part of old Metroplitan Toronto from back in the day. born and raised.
I like this song better than, Sound of Your Heart, by Sean Hook ...
This one, sounds more "upbeat", "positive".... "hopeful"... and neither
does he refer to her as "baby".
Saw Colin James open for Keith Richards at the Fox Theatre in like 1988, good show and Sax Player
One of my favourites. Absolutely love the saxophone in this :)
Jessica Smith Fuckin' play something, sax man!
I'm ashamed I no longer play the saxophone. I played in high school. We used to jam this all the time. My music teacher was dope.
First time that I have seen this video to my favorite Colin James song.
He is Playing a Free concert in Peterborough, Ontario Right now ( july 16 2014)
@try rety He seems to do a lot of those now.
Colin's playin' the Burlington Sound of Music festival on Saturday June 14/14 at 3:30, the best free music festival!!
hes in Peterborough right now at the Little Lake Music Fest
Only 78,000 views? This song was awesome in the 80's and still is. I say anyone that knows this song should share it with a underprivileged person.
+TheLeebannerman do you think they are ready to know.....
Five Long Years after your comment, it has 500,000 views.
An it still is after 30 long years.
Stevie Ray, Thorogood, Colin James, and Jeff Healey were my introduction to the blues as a teenager back in '88-89. I honestly don't know where I'd be without them. They've helped me celebrate good times, make it through times of sadness, and been such a huge part of the soundtrack of my life. I've had the pleasure of meeting Colin after gigs on a couple of occasions, and talked blues with him--he's such a super cool cat!
COMING to Grand Falls NFLD..
FUCK yeah..
oh....... the man the myth the lengend!
the hair, the man - the song!
awesome to hear, going to see him at Sun Peaks on the 30th
Made it just in time to see him live in Vancouver last night. Been waiting almost 15 years to see him play. Colin and his band were PHENOMENAL! More than worth the wait. Still sounds great, band was super-tight and the crowd was right into it. Great show Colin and crew, thank you :)
seeing him live tommorow gonna be intense waited 17 years for this lol
Yes, Colin is still performing. He just released his latest album, "Fifteen" in 2012, and he tours like a mad man.
Best saxaphone hook in any song, ever.
let it be,...
That's odd; as your profile states, you are Canadian. I suggest you keep ypur racial comments to yourself. It's not welcome here.

I love this song...
no celine dion mention?
When I heard this song for the first time, it was literally 5 years after my grandfather passed away. It holds special meaning to me because of that. Although it maybe about a past love, it helped me with coping with his passing.
WHy so many likes?? Canadian eh.. Beiber, Corner Gas, Nickelback, Simple Plan, Avril.... Ok there... Keep being proud
brady doesn't even compare to modern American pop garbage..beiber lol..he lives in the usa
Its wierd at 4:09 Im actually seeing him October 27th 2012 ! Ths was back in 1989 !
i know the sax player well
Why does this song only have 30 thousand views? It makes me sad. :(
Still can't forgive him for not playing this song when I saw him in concert.
I had this whole CD. I just heard him today do a live version of "Jealous Guy" on a radio station called CFMI ("Rock 101").
I want to dedicate this song to my 2 daughters, and my son... even though its been past 5 years... I still miss them alot. Hope someday, you come visit your "REAL" father, you know as Dad! Miss you guys!!! <3 <3!!!
I hope by now you have reunited with your daughters and son. Sending you strength, love, and hope.
LMAO. I met Colin James when I was a wee little thing. I was running round backstage, I don't know how I got there...I was like 3...now I'm 20. XD
me too!! I saw him in my college mezzanine one afternoon here in toronto. the student council got him in!! 1995 or so. great time in my life then!
Absolutely LOVE this song! Makes me want to sing along every time ;)
CANUCKS CAN ROCK AND ROLL WITH THE BEST!
Oddly enough, I heard this song on the radio in 2007. It hooked me instantly but I didn't get a chance to hear the artist name or song title. All I knew was that the chorus had "and I love you just the same" in it. But now I've finally found it, and after 5 long years I love this song just the same! :)
i dont know many people who dont know this song
I ran into him at a bathhouse with the rest of his band, and they were hot fer cock!!! And Colin James had some serious pubes!!!! Almost like the hair on is head, big but not quite a pompadour. Still though what a night! Sigh :(. He could play the saxophone with his butt. Amazing, he played the theme to Night Court!
Excellant tune, just nit in the mood for it.
only 11, 500 views wooaaaaaaa
I'm so proud to be Canadian!
