Cole, Natalie - My Grown-Up Christmas List Lyrics

Do you remember me
I sat upon your knee
I wrote to you
With childhood fantasies
Well, I'm all grown up now
Can you still help somehow
I'm not a child
But my heart still can dream
So here's my lifelong wish
My grown-up Christmas list
Not for myself
But for a world in need
No more lives torn apart
That wars would never start
And time would heal all hearts
Every man would have a friend
That right would always win
And love would never end
This is my grown-up
Christmas list
What is this illusion called
The innocence of youth
Maybe only in their blind belief
Can we ever find the truth
There'd be no more lives torn apart
And wars would never start
And time would heal all hearts
Every man would have a friend
And right would always win
And love would never end
This is my grown-up Christmas list
This is my only lifelong wish
This is my grown-up Christmas list
Hoo... hoo...

  42. W.... M....

Beautiful! Isn't this song an embodiment of what Christmas is all about? If people really paid attention to what Christmas really means, we'd probably have a nicer world. This song makes me cry, for the simple beauty it embodies, and reminds me of a special person who recently came into my life that I've become very , very, very, very fond of, but we weren't able to spend the holiday together. I heard of Natalie Cole's untimely passing on this evenings news, truly sad, the musical world lost a great voice. I understand she had drug and health problems, but, who among us doesn't have some kind of burden to bear. She'll be truly missed. In the coming Christmas's, whenever I hear this song, I'll remember Natalie Cole, her gorgeous voice, and the real meaning of Christmas, love, sharing and the message of Jesus Christ, who after all, is the reason for Christmas!

  43. K.... ....

  54. a.... ....

"My Grown-Up Christmas List") is a Christmas song composed by David Foster(music) and Linda Thompson-Jenner (lyrics), and originally recorded by Foster (with singer Natalie Cole on vocals) for his 1990 non-holiday album River of Love. .
The original version by David Foster with Natalie Cole also appeared on Foster's 1993 holiday set, The Christmas Album, and on Natalie Cole's 1999 The Magic of Christmas with the London Symphony Orchestra...

  55. a.... ....

This is the best and the original version from 1990.- David Foster (Music) Linda Thompson (Lyrics) Natalie Cole (Singer)...in 1992 Amy Grant recorded another wonderful version of this song and added lyrics to it.  So, Amy Grant's version is partially an original, but Natalie's is the original...all other's after this are just wonderful renditions.

  56. t.... ....

I love her version better...over and over and over again!

  57. 1.... ....

This might not have been written for Ms. Cole, but she OWNS it. Her version is head and shoulders above all the rest. My absolute favorite rendition.

    1.... ....

actually it was. she sang the original vocals with david foster.

    1.... ....

    She is actually the original.

  58. F.... C....

    ,,,,,,

,,, you knock the hell out of this one!

  59. I.... A....

Can she or her talent get any more beautiful? I don't think so. Love her!!!

  60. j.... t....

i already miss christmas...man i tell ya all the hype is great but just one day does not do it justice in my opinion

  61. G.... ....

This is for me personally -
This is the theme song for Christmas 2012!

  62. r.... ....

You go Natalie. This is the best rendition out there! David Foster's arrangements are always so magical!!!

  63. M.... T....

Beautiful song by a wonderful singer.

  64. E.... ....

Latin singer Luis Miguel sings a true heart wrenching version of this song. Look it up on youtube....... just type Luis Miguel "Mi Humilde Oracion". If you listen to his version and you love someone or lost someone, by the end of his song you may be crying VERY hard.

  65. P.... A....

damm i am nearly 50 and just discover this song

  66. D.... W....

No does it better thans Natalie Cole

  67. l.... ....

She sang it originally on the David Foster Christmas album in 1994 or 1995. It's is an even better version, but it's not on you tube.

  68. C.... W....

  72. o.... ....

@jeffatarch1 If you live in Afghanistan, Iraq,Lebanon or Syria you would understand the meaning of this song. If only war would not tear the lives of children and people around the world. Lives are torn apart by divorce, abandonment etc...
My grown up list is the same..no more lives torn apart, that wars would never start...

  79. M.... ....

@KIMM777 Whenever I hear this song that is exactly who I think of, it seems so perfect almost as if it where written for him.

  80. s.... ....

We're singing this song in chorus at my school!:)

  81. C.... ....

    *Natalie Cole

    C.... ....

    EllehcimDimmaLos fxjzj

  82. C.... ....

@dreamera1 David Foster wrote the song for him and Natialie Cole.. to sing. Amy Grant covered it after... and also added (a never again sung verse) to the song itself. David's wife did the lyrics and he did the music:-)

  83. E.... ....

@TarmakWorm Thank you for the correction, but we could always add some extra wishes to the list ...no more lies toward the heart ...that would make it interesting too. Not a bad wish :)

  84. E.... ....

My grown up Christmas wish...no more lives torn apart...wars would never start...time would heal all wounds...every man would have a friend...right would always win ..,and love would never end...

  85. E.... G....

My daughter asked me tonight what I wanted for Christmas and i had no words. But after hearing this again..I know now...Catie, this is what I want honey :)

  86. W.... ....

    @dreamera1
David Foster composed the music, Linda Thompson-Jenner wrote the lyrics. Cheers, mate :)

  87. l.... ....

I have heard many versions that were good, such as the one by Amy Grant. But I love this version somehow so much. This song has a powerful message. Natalie Cole is so elegant, classy, sophisticatged, talented and beautiful and can sing any genre of music. Bless her and David Foster.

  88. d.... ....

Amy Grant's is better.. she was the one who wrote it xD

  89. m.... ....

@christophercsilva: No one is telling you what to say. As I mentioned, Charice is a good singer, but , she is nowhere near Whitney, Barbra, Aretha, Chaka, Mariah, these women have 25 to 30 years of hit songs, awards, accolades, fans, etc. You can be a loyal fan, but don't be delusional. It is not possible for Charice to be on their level. Does she even have one hit record? Has she released any "original music". Like your devotion - but really - no comparison.

  90. a.... ....

@markosundin And who are you to comment on MY OPINION? I did not say it is the gospel truth. It is my opinion and I am entitled to it? Can you please try to read my mesage first before commenting. It makes you look bad yourself.

My first post was posted in a positive note. I am not trying to stir emotions here. So please back off!!!

  91. a.... ....

@mariewilder Who R U to tell me what to say? If I say she's there with Mariah, Celine, Whitney, etc, you can't contest that. As a loyal fan, that's what I believe, maybe you should start believing, too. The company's good here.

  92. m.... ....

@christophercsilva: Uh...no she's not. Charice is only 18 and does not belong in the same category as Whitney Houston, Barbra Streisand, Natalie Cole, Chaka Khan, Aretha Franklin. These legendary divas are in a league all their own. Charice is really good, but, she does not belong in the same as these remarkable unique singers.

  93. n.... ....

All versions are for me the same,I can't decide. But I have to say that this song is sad and somber,as are many Christmas songs if one were to pay attention.I want the message being conveyed in this song,to come true. Our world truly needs it.

    Merry Christmas 2010!

  94. b.... ....

listen to the lyrics, just as good as every singer who sings it... don't compare

  95. a.... ....

    @burriesricky

You said ONE of the greatest, not THE greatest. Can't you make it in your heart to allow Charice to share that title? You're listening to this song with a very meaningful lyrics yet you can't accept that Charice is IN THEIR LEAGUE... a league composed of Whitney, Mariah, Celine, Barbra, Natalie, Chaka, Aretha, to name a few? She may be 18 y.o. But she's DEFINITELY there.

    Merry Xmas to you, dear.

  96. s.... ....

The person who dislike this song didn't have a good Christmas obviously -.-

  97. J.... ....

I like the Christian version better... A Prayer For Every Year

  98. K.... ....

@reignman2112 ugh, they never stop shoving jingle bells down your throat in stores from Halloween on.
