Cole, Nat King - Stardust Lyrics

And now the purple dusk of twilight time
Steals across the meadows of my heart
High up in the sky the little stars climb
Always reminding me that we're apart

You wander down the lane and far away
Leaving me a song that will not die
Love is now the stardust of yesterday
The music of the years gone by

Sometimes I wonder why I spend
The lonely night dreaming of a song
The melody haunts my reverie
And I am once again with you
When our love was new
And each kiss an inspiration
But that was long ago
Now my consolation
Is in the stardust of a song

Beside a garden wall
When stars are bright
You are in my arms
The nightingale tells his fairy tale
A paradise where roses bloom
Though I dream in vain
In my heart it will remain
My stardust melody
The memory of love's refrain

Nay King Cole was a Number 1 Class act ! When he sung a Song he Owned it ! His voice was as strong as Steel but soft as Butter , a velvety quality ! He hit every note Perfectly ! I listened to him as a boy 9 years old ! I never stopped listening I’m 69 !

1959, The Ritz Bar in Singapore...17 year old exposed to real life but this song was repeatedly played and made everything alright......now at 77 years old it makes me all misty-eyed...still the greatest song.

    YALL READY FOR 2020

  16. T.... M....

Love Nat... Love the song.....dislike the arrangement. It is too flowery and at some points it overwhelms the performance. The new remix and remaster drops the strings back and allows Nat's great vocal to be truly appreciated. You can find that mix around here somewhere on youtube.

  44. t.... ....

This may very well be, the loveliest song of all time.
    At least for me anyway;)

  45. J.... G....

It's songs like these and people who sing them so exquisitely that remind us how it is to be human beings.

    just incredible!

  55. M.... S....

It is a difficult song sung to perfection by a great voice that was God's gift to all of us!!! We are blessed to be able to hear Nate King Cole sing!!!

  56. L.... P....

This version really invites to dream! Could have been the B-side of Mona Lisa. His later songs are recommendable. Try Too Young and of course Mona Lisa.
For Stardust try Bing Crosby's 1932 version.

  57. A.... M....

So many beautiful songs sung by the best popular music singer ever, but there's something so magical about this song,it takes me to happier times and a certain love that was'nt to be and puts tears in my eye's.

The first lovesong my sister sang with Harald. He left and she kept remembring until she died at 80. Her last Words: we are but stardust!

  72. E.... R....

Was only 7 when Mr. Cole died. Was as devastated as a child could be when I had found out he died. He had a weekly show that came on and I never missed a show. My grandmother always let me watch it. I was just mesmerized by his voice. I will forever miss him. A real shame he had to get cancer!

  73. D.... C....

Such a beautiful and smooth voice. Too bad the noisy commercials ruin it.

  74. .... ....

  78. s.... k....

Velvety smooth. Nat had one of those unique and beautiful voices. So rare. Instantly recognized. Like Sinatra or Mozart. One of our national treasures. And his Christmas music is a tradition in my house like Bing Crosby.

Think about the time Nat grow up in. Ahh What a Melody

  80. S.... V....

  84. j.... l....

This man had an incredible voice. What gets me is it appears that he sang without effort. Amazing! I have been a fan of Nat King Cole before I heard Elvis or Chuck Berry.

  85. R.... O....

Whenever I hear this "Nat"ural masterpiece I feel that a dysfunctional family maybe collectively tapping their feet, momentarily pretending to be human!

  86. R.... M....

There'll never be another voice like Nat's. Simply amazing.

  87. C.... C....

  95. m.... w....

It is perfection, the arrangement that allows his voice to be the delicate whisper... The mellow tone that keeps you mesmerized... What else is there to say?

  96. D.... B....

    Beautifully done as always.

  97. W.... A....

Whoever wrote the lyrics of this song is a genius...not repetitive meaningless and mindless words over and over, no rhyme for rhyme's sake...very meaningful. Melody is perfect to.

  98. M.... ....

Memories of my uncle singing this song one Christmas in our local...had never heard it before...blown away...Love Nat king Cole singing it...wonderful.
