Cole, Nat King - Somewhere Along The Way Lyrics

I used to walk with you
Along the avenue
Our hearts were carefree and gay
How could I know I'd lose you
Somewhere along the way?

The friends we used to know
Would always smile "Hello"
No love like our love they'd say
Then love slipped through our fingers
Somewhere along the way

I should forget
But with the loneliness of night I start remembering ev'rything
You're gone and yet
There's still a feeling deep inside
That you will always be part of me

So now I look for you
Along the avenue
And as I wander I pray
That some day soon I'll find you
Somewhere along the way

I should forget
But with the loneliness of night I start remembering ev'rything
You're gone and yet
There's still a feeling deep inside
That you will always be part of me

So now I look for you
Along the avenue
And as I wander I pray
That some day soon I'll find you
Somewhere along the way
Somewhere along the way

Seven people wouldn't know amazing music if it hit them in their foreheads and they probably think L'il Wayne is good music.

Very good song I had forgotten from not hearing it.  My late Dad used to like this song through I did not remember its title till now. Nat had such a great voice really and not one of the singers today can hold a candle against him.

My Judy slipped thru my fingers for 37 years. Luckily I DID find her and we had 18 wonderful years before she passed away. This song sustained me during those 37 empty years. This song always reminded me of what I had lost.

Pete so sorry for your loss at least you found her again

This song is another spell of Nat who with his unrivaled voice, extraordinarily deep , velvety and caressing
can create a romantic atmosphere so intense that makes us move. Also the lyrics are very romantic and original.

Since I have the original 1952 Capitol 78 (yes, 78), this being in stereo means it's a re-recording, which was a common practice at the time.  Nelson Riddle arranged the original, and this sounds like him again.  It remains my favorite Nat Cole recording.  The songs that hit home are the ones you always remember.

That's the wonderful beauty of a good song, it becomes yours along the road for they become timeless to your life and time! Mr. Cole was before my generation but here I am loving the sorrowful loving message, which it's never ending......
    Mir11Mir thumbs up

The memories revived by this great song are almost indescribable, but while being painful they are also beautiful. We all must lose loved ones but songs such as this bring them back.

You are correct. the year was 1961 and the name of that wonderful album is The Nat King Cole Story. The songs sound far better (to ME) than his earlier recordings particularly this song, Mona Lisa-- and the Christmas Song, which was the 4th re-recording of that song and the one we hear today. His voice had deepened, (unfortunately that was due to his hopeless addiction to cigarettes) and wow he sounds heavenly! A great album...

I heard this song in the movie That old feeling & loved it ever since
