Cole, Nat King - It's All In The Game Lyrics

Many a tear has to fall
But its all in the game
All in the wonderful game
That we know as love
You have words with him
And your futures looking dim
But these things your heart can rise above
Once in a while he wont call
But its all in the game
Soon hell be there at your side
With a sweet bouquet
And hell kiss your lips
And caress your waiting fingertips
And your heart will fly away
[Repeat]

  6. G.... M....

Love Nat's voice though this song belongs to Tommy Edwards

  7. r.... s....

Cass Elliot’s rendition of this song is great!

  8. P.... C....

I like both this version and the Tommy Edwards version of this song, but Tommy Edward's version is superior in the backing vocals and rhythm, even though there are some nice orchestrations on this, the Nat King Cole version, with Nat King Cole's superb voice.

    Ohhhh.....🥰

  10. t.... ....

Nat King Cole is one of the greatest singers to have ever drawn a breath. No bells and whistles just raw emotion and grace and talent!

  11. B.... G....

No it's not the best version. The strings over NKC's voice are too flowery.

The melody was composed by Charles Dawes. He was a lawyer. He was the general who coordinated logistics for the allied forces in World War I on Gen. Pershing’s staff. He served as Vice President of the United States under Calvin Coolidge. He developed the Dawes Plan to stabilize the German economy after WWI for which he received the Nobel Peace Prize. His home in Evanston is open for tours. “It’s All in the Game” reached No. 1 in the US and UK. His original “Melody in A” was a Fritz Kreisler violin encore. -Michael D. Poulos, Esq., ASCAP.

Nat King Cole was pure talent but Tommy Edwards' version is still better. But they're both true legends. RIP to both.

Charles Dawes, descended from Revolutionary War figure William Dawes (who, along with Paul Revere, made a midnight ride on April 18, 1775, warning that British Regulars were coming), served as vice president under Calvin Coolidge from 1925 to 1929. In 1911, Dawes, then a Chicago banker and self-taught amateur musician, penned a tune he called “Melody in A Major.” The instrumental was picked up by a publisher and had success. It was in 1951, when Carl Sigman added lyrics to Dawes’ tune, and was renamed “It’s All in the Game” that the song really took off as an American classic.

I knew that he was v.p. but his ancestry I hadn't known. I have found a player piano version of Melody in A here on youtube. Lots of songs have history behind them. Either the composers or lyricists or famous singers who have sung the songs. I always like to know something of the composer and/or lyricists behind any song I play or listen to.
