Cole, Nat King - I Keep Going Back To Joe's Lyrics

I keep goin' back to Joe's
To that table in the corner,
Sippin' wine and staring at the door.
Our old waiter knows we're through,
Still he sets a place for you
Everything the way it was before.

I keep goin' back to Joe's,
But the man who plays piano
Never plays your favorite melody.
Joe keeps busy at the bar,
Never asks me where you are.
He was there when you walked out on me.

Now I pray you'll walk back in,
And you'll say what fools we've been,
And we'll celebrate a happy new beginning.
Chances are you'll never show,
But you'll know just where to find me
Every night until it's time to close.

Just in case you miss me, too,
I'll be there to welcome you.
That's why I keep going back...
That's why I keep goin' back...
To Joe's.

I am 62 and remember my father playing this when I was about 6/7. And as I got older I would tell folks about this song and they would tell me I didn't know what I was talking about,!! But tonight, I don't know why I was thinking about this and looked it up!! This has been over fifty years since I heard this song Praise God it is just as beautiful as it was when I was a child

    Good one. Thanks.

  3. Rob Jones

    An overlooked gem.

It should be classed in the same league as Sinatra's version of "One For My Baby" but this song has been rarely heard, hence the low viewing figures.
The same goes for "Where Did Everyone Go ?" which was Nat's last masterpiece.
Hopefully it might get reissued again at a humane price, because it is utterly fantastic.
Don Draper would have loved it.....
