Cole, Nat King - Hajji Baba (Persian Lament) Lyrics

(Hajji, Hajji, Hajji, Hajji,
Hajji, Hajji, Hajji, Hajji)
Hajji, Hajji, Hajji, Hajji, Hajji Baba, Hajji Baba,
Hajji Baba, Hajji Baba, Hajji Baba,
He was always in love, in love, in love.

Come to my tent, oh, my beloved,
Bring me your lips, warm as the sun.
Hear my lament, oh, my beloved,
Come to my arms, oh, wonderful one.

Enter my heart and stay there forever,
Lost in the spell of stars up above,
And we'll be like the man Hajji Baba,
Always in love, always in love.

(Hajji, Hajji, Hajji, Hajji,
Hajji, Hajji, Hajji, Hajji)
Hajji, Hajji, Hajji, Hajji, Hajji Baba, Hajji Baba,
Hajji Baba, Hajji Baba, Hajji Baba,
He was always in love, in love.

Deep in each soul, carefully hidden,
There's a desire to be indiscreet,
Hajji has said, "When love is forbidden,
Love is so sweet, love is so sweet."

Hajji, Hajji, Hajji, Hajji, Hajji Baba, Hajji Baba,
Hajji Baba, Hajji Baba, Hajji Baba,
He was always in love, in love, in love.

Come to my arms, oh, my beloved.
(Hajji, Hajji, Hajji, Hajji,
Hajji, Hajji, Hajji, Hajji)

I was aging 5, or 6.when I saw it at the Impero (Empire) cinema in Taranto, Italy. I remember some chill about the tribe of warriors women. The song was very cool.

I'm not sure how old I was when I saw the movie, but I remember the song and it's haunting sound and although it wasn't a big hit, it was always one of my favorite Nat King Cole songs. Thanks for your comments candullino.

  2. Philip Chretien Karlsson

The song is very much enjoyed....a slow bolero, with nat's beautiful voice...

    Dan Casey

It was not a real big hit, but one I enjoyed. I'm glad that you liked it too Philip. Thanks for your comments.

Thanks Don. I find myself singing this song now and then with pleasure - my current "hit". And of course, the movie is delightful, in this oriental Hollywood never, never land!!

Saw this movie as a kid; loved it then and still remember the song.. thanks for the upload..

    Dan Casey

I enjoyed this movie as a teen and the melody stuck in my head for years. I'm glad that it came to me as I began up-loading videos. Thank you for your comments hipsterabster.

This song reminds me...1954, 8 yrs old, me, my best bud, Johnny, and the rest of the dirty gang of urchins crawling in and out of the sewers, and canal, of Logan Heights, San Diego, raising hell in the neighborhood. God, those were the days! Memories.

    Dan Casey

I guess we all have different memories of growing up, but it's great how a song can bring them back so vividly. Thanks for sharing Luci.
