You have to understand, that bands MUST experiment and change to evolve. Same thing goes with people, like, you expect a fully grown man with a job and a family to feed to act like a 12 year old of this generation? And, you can't expect most bands having the same style as they had when they were just starting with their first album. It would be boring. The same song, but with a different note arrangement and different lyrics.

This song is also included in the single, "Shiver" as a B-side.

Coldplay in 1998-2008 was unique!

You're right, but the direction they took is the wrong one in my opinion, Radiohead could have also gone the pop route if they wanted to, instead they went the opposite experimental direction and didnt care about selling out. Coldplay should have done the same, they could have maybe experimented with trip hop or shoegaze instead of pop. The music they produce now is holding them back as gifted lyricists and instrumentalists. The chord progressions and bass lines and lead guitar parts they used when they first came out blew my mind.

But what if I don't enjoy those new directions?

@Knickerbocker Why the hell does making pop music always mean you have to sell out? Are you forgetting Coldplay have always been hugely popular even when they made alt-rock? And maybe there’s other factors that go into changing the sound like mood and experience?

+unnamed user I'm a huge fan of coldplay and it's easy to say that they are just a pop band if you look at just the 3 singles from the last 3 album's but if you listen to the whole album you will see that's not the case and also as with every band/artist Coldplay's style has changed from purely acoustic to experimenting with different electronic sounds such as in some of X & Y and in much of mylo xyloto and even if you just look at the singles you can see that it is not just cookie cutter pop if you like Coldplay's older music and don't like there evolution as a band that's fine but saying that it's just lame pop is a bit ignorant

they need to do this at Glastonbury 2017 and drop any Ghost Stories stuff

I don't feel like coldplays newer stuff was a complete waste of time. The EP with magic and that other stuff was seeeriously hit and miss but the direction they went with Mylo xyloto for me really worked. Maybe if they did a mix of that with more of their older acoustic stuff then that might be a decent album.
Maybe that's why I liked adventure of a lifetime- reminded me of Charlie brown and Mylo xyloto. Who knows!

I miss this Coldplay

Really upsets me that people think that Coldplay has changed, Coldplay is amazing and that will never change. Their new album is upbeat but artist will try different things, their heart is in the same place listen to the lyrics, Obviously none of their new music will compare to their earlier stuff but nevertheless still amazing. They're my favorite band of all time, I don't think they've changed one bit.

I have always been a Coldplay fan, since the very early days. And their power is that they always move forward, they keep inventing themselfs in new ways. And they are a leading band, and an inspiration to a lot of new bands. But, since they have moved on from the acoustic/clean guitar, sometimes Lennon-like "shy" music with that Britpop-feel, to a more bombastic, synthisizer, echo overdriven uprising feelgood-pop... I must admit I do miss those songs like this.

Don't get me wrong, songs like Fix You, and the likes, and also the more bombastic songs are 100% amazing, and I love them (although I really didn't feel the Mylo Xyloto songs, that album gave me a feeling that they cut the lines with their early fanbase, and choose to go really poppy).
I do hope that they will make a small little album in between their "Coldplay new style albums", an album written and produced like Parashutes or AROBTTH, with a more "clean" sound, and a good collection of less bombastic, small little songs to really "listen" to... that would be very very nice. Their populairity gives them the freedom to do so, to move in any direction they want to, and I think it will serve a huge group of their fanbase.

And you kniw what,.. their musicstyle definitely, old style and new style is really made for a symphonic album. A great orchestra supporting their music, damn that would be nice.

Meanwhile... I can't stop listening to their old stuff... the new stuff is really amazing, but their older stuff is pure, and pure magic!
