Cold Chisel - Boundary Street Lyrics

Mullet faces in the station
Ballerinas on a chain
Dancing bears with long eyelashes
Pretty bows and black moustaches

Jealous baby lost the party
Got a loaded forty-five
Put your lonely hand in mine
And we'll go where they're crossing live

Take me down to Boundary Street
Take me down to Boundary Street
I got friends who'd die to meet you
Maître d's who'll kill to seat you

Take me down to Boundary Street
Take me down to Boundary Street
I don't care what's goin' on
Down that street is where I'm gone

Little show all, got a catcall
Feathers on the football star
Leopards in designer labels
Laid across the roulette tables

Weekend users sliding outta
Limousines where we can hide
I'll be yours, and you'll be mine
And I'll strap you in for the ride

Come away with me, I'll show you
Hidden doors and where they go
Baby can't go on pretending
There'll ever be a happy ending

Take me down to Boundary Street
Take me down to Boundary Street
I don't care what's goin' on
Boundary Street is where I'm gone

Maybe I'm just a Chisel tragic. But they rarely do anything that's not exceptional. This is great, not the best song on the album but great all the same. It's got a "Minnie The Moocher" feel.

    Great music !!!!!!!!!!!!

From listening to the album in full last night this is the standout song. A strong melody and interesting musical arrangement. The rest of the album has a very similar feel to the songs on the last two albums - nothing striking, very workmanlike. Nothing of the calibre of Bal-a- Versallies or Yakuza Girls. Still, it is always great to have another Cold Chisel album. If they are going to do another one, they should try a new producer as nearly every song on the last few albums has the same production and it all gets a little bit dull - I keep hoping in vain for a "I got the keys to the city" moment that takes the song to another level, both sonically and lyrically. Think of the amazing switch in Build This Love where Moss interrupts the emphatic gospel Barnestorming id and expresses fears and doubts in a minor key:
    "I get my days
When a voice seems to whisper in my ear
'Baby you don't need this company'
    Such cheap emotion
Is gonna break nobody's heart but mine" - and then BOOM, back to the unassailable hollering and the screaming:
"Layin' on hands till you feel the heat
We can take control of the situation
What's it gonna be, not another defeat
We can build this fire on a new foundation."
    Magic.

Certainly Jimmy's best performance on a Cold Chisel record since the "Last Wave of Summer" album; its a shame that the vocal interplay of Jim and Ian that made their earlier albums so great has largely gone missing as, not expectantly, has the influence Steve brought to the band. Any Cold Chisel album is another treasure to enjoy but the albums Don has made with Tex & Charlie, and those made with the Suave Fucks have been so much better than the Chisel albums made this century.
