Coe, David Allan - Ballad Of A Teenage Queen Lyrics

(Dream on, dream on teenage queen prettiest girl we've ever seen)

There's a story in our town
Of the prettiest girl around
Golden hair and eyes of blue
How those eyes could flash at you (How those eyes could flash at you)
Boys hung 'round her by the score
But she loved the boy next door who worked at the candy store
(Dream on, dream on teenage queen prettiest girl we've ever seen)

She was tops in all they said
It never once went to her head
She had everything it seems
Not a care, this teenage queen (Not a care, this teenage queen)
Other boys could offer more
But she loved the boy next door who worked at the candy store
(Dream on, dream on teenage queen you should be a movie queen)

He would marry her next spring
Saved his money, bought a ring
Then one day a movie scout
Came to town to take her out (Came to town to take her out)
Hollywood could offer more
So she left the boy next door working at the candy store
(Dream on, dream on teenage queen see you on the movie screen)

Very soon she was a star
Pretty house and shiny car
Swimming pool and a fence around
But she missed her old home town (But she missed her old home town)
All the world was at her door
All except the boy next door who worked at the candy store
(Dream on, dream on teenage queen saddest girl we've ever seen)

Then one day the teenage star
Sold her house and all her cars
Gave up all her wealth and fame
Left it all and caught a train (Left it all and caught a train)
Do I have to tell you more
She came back to the boy next door who worked at the candy store

  1. S.... W....

Beautiful Voice, Very Nice song, Left us too soon.

    S.... W....

Too soon? He lived a great life and a good age considering the amount of drugs and alcohol he took for like 10-15 years, it doesn't matter if he's gone his music lives on basically he lives forever

  2. m.... ....

    Background singers are great here

  3. 6.... ....

What a great music show the Beech-Nut Show was! Incredible variety in music. Wish a TV show like this were possible today. Of course modern music (Country, Rock & Pop) would have to get their act together with artists of genuine talent. And Dick Clark was also one-of-a-kind.

  4. M.... K....

Love johnny cash thanks for all great music 2019 Nov god bless. R.i.p. God bless you Johnny

  5. G.... C....

.. and it's just 26 years old. :o This ist voice. Waao.

  6. C.... H....

The best and most recognizable voice ever !!

  7. J.... J....

I believe I will meet Johnny when I die. Please God

  8. w.... h....

    I love this song

  9. F.... A....

He's lip synching his own song

    F.... A....

    Ya what's up with that

    F.... A....

@PoshJeck It was typical for American Bandstand. The 2 times they had John on, they made him lip Sync. He never went back on....

  10. G.... L....

No one will be what he was . More than a legend.

  11. D.... O....

even though it`s his song, back then it was mostly done with studio recordings. so unfortunately no live version.

  12. K.... H....

    rest in peace Johnny

  13. L.... J....

Cute love song, back then it was possible, that story would never happen this day and age

  14. L.... B....

I love his song n his daughters song, tennessee flat top box

    L.... B....

His daughter’s song Tennessee Flat Top Box is actually a Johnny Cash song. Not Rosanne! Johnny!

  15. J.... D....

Was this before he met June Carter?

    J.... D....

Joe Dollinter Hey Joe, he met June Carter backstage in 1956. But he constantly started touring with her in 1962. So this performance was before her. Greetings CD

    J.... D....

@Cornelia Denninger june, along with her sister and Mother Maybelle joined Cash in December of 1961

  16. R.... W....

Makes me laugh when they call him a singer he talked

    R.... W....

If you don't like it or him... Why are you listening to it? Music is music... Appreciate it all.... Imagine a world with no music

  17. g.... ....

    one and , only ,!

  18. E.... M....

grew up with this great tune.:)

  19. S.... ....

His songs are so haunting...In the way that you start listening and it envelops you and goes deeper than just your ears. You listen and feel the story. And you never want it to end.

  20. L.... t....

Wish there was a sequel song, like how Buddy Holly had Peggy Sue and then Peggy Sue Got Married

  21. C.... D....

John Cash so young and handsome and with an amazing voice before the drugs took him. /CD

  24. R.... A....

I was a deck boy aboard MV Whangaroa - a refrigerated cargo ship that transported New Zealand lamb and dairy products around the world - when I first heard Johnny Cash. The six deck boys had each kicked in about $10 to purchase a record player and one of the first records we bought was Johnny Cash singing 'Ballad of a Teenage Queen'. I was hooked.

Boy - did he change his image!

  25. K.... C....

This song, Cry Cry Cry, and I Still Miss Someone are my favorite songs from Johnny Cash and his band. His other early songs are the best, too.

  26. B.... I....

    Beautiful

  27. B.... ....

    The backing vocals make this...

    B.... ....

Agreed. Brilliant use of background vocals.

    B.... ....

The backing vocals are done by the Gene Lowery singers. They were on a number of Johnny's recordings during the sun record years.

  28. J.... N....

    I love Johnny

  32. J.... L....

Dick Clark was 28 in this clip

  33. T.... S....

Timeless .... and still a marvellous song!

  34. D.... ....

Hes a good looking guy, just like my great grandfather whom he looks eerily similar to in this performance.

    G.... D....

    It’s just called Hurt.

  41. M.... M....

Those were not the Statler Bros They didn't join him until the 1960s. Johnny was 26 years old in 1958. WOW.

  42. J.... H....

Are those the Statler brothers singing background?  This was before they started their quartet, but the high voice sounds like Lew DeWitt, One of the Statler brothers, but I understand the Jordanaires sang background for him, before the Statler brothers did

    J.... H....

+Jeff Hill No it was not.

    J.... H....

+Rick Street The background singers were the Gene Lowery Singers. They are the backing vocals on all of the sun sides. This song was written by the producer, "Cowboy" Jack Clement. The melody is Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. The Statlers didn't come along until 1964, this is from 1958.

  43. M.... C....

One Of My Favorite Songs From Johnny Cash

  44. M.... W....

Heard this song a few months ago on the Paul Gambaccini on BBC radio 2, didn't know is was a johnny Cash song, a brilliant song.

  45. J.... R....

Yesterday I heard this song the first time in my life -with this video-, and I can't stop singing :)

  46. P.... H....

I sold the same guitar a J200 to 'Stompin Tom Connors' back here in Canada in the late sixties. A beautiful piece of work. I was working as a salesman for Drouin's  Music Store in Timmins, Ontario at the time. Johnny had it on an Album cover with his song  Mr. Lumberjack.

    P.... H....

That album was called "Ride This Train", because it had "Lumberjack" on it, but he didn't have a guitar on the cover. It was a pic of him holding a gun, with a train in the background.

    P.... H....

+CashPresley32  Hi! I know what your saying I have the album, in any case it was a J200. The pic I'm speaking about is Johnny is sitting on a pile of wood in his suit with his bow tie holding a J200 with his name imbedded in the fret board. I think I may have that album also.  I've also got 'Everbody loves a nut' album and 'Songs of our soil'

    P.... H....

@Paul Henry Dallaire Oh I saw that pic. He had the same guitar on the cover of the album "The Fabulous Johnny Cash." Thanks for the info Kenny from Grants Pass, Oregon.

  50. R.... S....

Not many people realize that this was the biggest-selling single that Johnny ever had.

    R.... S....

Johnny's biggest selling single was "I walk The Line" This was his third biggest seller.

    R.... S....

jonny chingas correct , johnny even says in a interview with Larry king that I Walk The Line was his biggest seller he ever had and he hated the way it sounded when it came on the radio and called Sam Phillips and told him to take it off the radio lol Sam said. Well you're gonna have to call Alot of radio stations cuz they're playing it everywhere lol so I think you're confused ,it was not this song he hated at first but rather walk the line

    R.... S....

Jesse Harmon oh yeah? How do you know that

  51. E.... U....

He was so young.  Love his voice!

  52. J.... H....
