Cody Johnson - Dear Rodeo Lyrics
Dear Rodeo
I'd be lying if I tried to tell you I don't think about you
After all the miles and the wild nights that we've been through
Lord knows we had a few
I'd like to say that I took the reigns and rode away
No regrets, no left unsaids
Just turned the page
Oh, but you know better, babe
Between the almost-had-'ems and broken bones
The dream of the buckle I'll never put on
I'm jaded, woah, I hate it
But somehow the highs outweigh the lows
I'd still have to let you go
So dear Rodeo
I tried like hell to tell myself
It was all your fault
I held on tight with all my might
I just couldn't hang on
And that's hard to hang your hat on
Between the almost-had-'ems and broken bones
The dream of the buckle I'll never put on
I'm jaded, woah, I hate it
But somehow the highs outweigh the lows
And I'd do it all again even though we both know
I'd still have to let you go
Dear Rodeo
I'd like to think you miss me too
But I know you don't
Oh, but that don't change the past
And that don't change the truth
I'm still in love with you
Dear Rodeo

Back when country music was country music
Can't understand why anyone would not like this song.
One of my favorites on this album.
I started bull riding when I was 9 an my career was ruined from a injury but I would restart if I could I still miss it every day an I was blessed to get the chance to ride this song just bits my heart strings 💯💯

Amazing song
Rest In Peace lane frost 😢😢
People dont understand rodeo is a drug you can't get it out of your blood once it's in you can't get it out and you have to leave it it hurts because that's all you knew that's all you did. Now you have to do something different it hurts because you miss the competition you miss the life style.
I'm a barrel racer and this relates to me so much all the time I will play this song if I'm doubting myself and it helps a lot lol that broken bones that's amazing
Reminds me of the marine corps how I gave it up for a stupid girl.... now I miss the marine corps and cant go back..
One of my favorites of his.
Thank you for this song.. many folks can appreciate this and insert their own loss like I have 💜👍
Dear Rodeo to Fresno girl.......

Never rode bulls. But this song is more than that. We appreciate this song
My bull riding career is on pause right now and this song really hits my heart hard. I can’t wait to be good on my feet again so I can tie my self to another rank bull
Breaks my heart EVERY time
He can't sing worth cow shit
Became my favorite song in 10 seconds
This really inspired me to do anything I want
Absolutely amazing sir. Hits on many levels. I rode for a brief hsndful of years, and this song strikes every chord.
I am 47 an still ride bulls and I know one day it going to be a time where I am going to have to stop an I am going to miss it this song says it all going to miss what I love doing!!!
my favorite song
man this song makes me tear up. I just recently quit steer wrestling and ive been doing it for 6 years now.... this song is accurate on everything.... i miss the hell out of it and would do it all again but ik in the end i couldnt....
Colten Hoban same here 🤷♀️ I’m from a small farm town and hockey is a big thing here. I played for 14 years before I broke my hand and had to stop, and I’m only 17. I’ll never play again and the pain of missing it is something I feel in my bones. That’s such a cliche but it’s so true.
Reminds me of my motocross racing days. Still miss it.
i love big cock in my ass #gay
Your the best country singer ever
Hi Cody Johnson I went to the concert yesterday in mission tx thank you for the kossie ❤
Here before this song blows up
I’m no small town boy, but for me being a city boy, I love the life of the country and one day I wanna join the rodeo lifestyle and ride my Texan heart on a wild bronco till the day I die.
my dad rode bulls all through highschool & got a college scholarship for it. he was state highschool champ. tomorrow it has been two months since he passed away in a car accident. i miss him so much, these past two months have been hell, he talked about his rodeo days like they were the best time of his life so songs like these remind me of him so much. Cody Johnson is a true cowboy.
I'm starting my rodeo career soon and im only 12 i wont to team rope and ride saddle broncs and i wont this to play at the rodeo when i ride
Keep going I'm a barrel racer and I'm 13 it really helps when you have people who understand what you do
My dad showed me this song a while back and he's in Oklahoma working I miss him so much..
Damn great song about a lost love insert the woman or man that got away for rodeo and wow... just wow great song about lost love
I luv this song, I've been ridin bulls for 4 years now n' I miss soo damn much everytime I don't get on because of money problems or College. But every chance I do get on I use every second to the best of my ability n' enjoy every second of it because it's what I luv to do n' it's my way of life as of every Rodeo man or woman's is too.
I competed for 36 years in the PRCA. You never forget rodeo, but rodeo forgets you.
“but somehow the highs outweigh the lows and i’ll do it all again even tho we both know i’d still have to let you go” 😞❤️
I couldn't say it any better thank you good song
all of the people that hate this get the hell out of here
FUCKIN HELL DIS SONG HARD TO LISTEN TO I’m a bull rider
I’m cowboy at hart and when my parents divorced it was hard but I became the cowboy of the House and now this song just a smile on my face
My dad rode bulls broncs and steer wresting. He stoped when my brother was born. His last ride was on a bronc. He won the rodeo and took home a big ol buckle.
Im ridng in Palmyra tomorrow night. You can bet i play this song right before every bull ride i go to
Now why can't country music return to singing what you lived? I hear a quite a bit of Chris Ledoux in these lyrics. Songs that told the story and came from the heart. This song had me hooked the first 30 seconds I listened to it.
@countrygirl countrymusiclover it was a compliment to him
I was talking about mainstream charts. Luke Bryan, FGL, and all those fake country artists rule the "country" charts now day. We need to bring more of these kind of artists into those charts.
@countrygirl countrymusiclover and it's not a competition on who got hooked the fastest.
@countrygirl countrymusiclover learn how to spell for one, and I'm under the impression you're tone deaf. And two, I don't recall asking anyone's opinion, much less yours. There's a difference between real country and upright bullshit. Cody is real country, the others are just watered down bullshit in skinny bedazzled jeans. Is that too much for your three year old brain to comprehend?
Thank you for keeping it country in these tough times of country rap
@countrygirl countrymusiclover thats my opinion. Never asked for yours. I hope you have an amazing weekend.
My dad riding bulls and a champion
My dad rode bull s so do i
I just miss my best friend and really hope he’s happy out there! 💕 I haven’t missed you like this since the night we said “goodbye”
Absolutely love this song!
Love your songs.big fan. Your best is cowboy like me
Great song Mr. Johnson. Reminded me of Chris Ledoux.
https://youtu.be/UGrs9cFo6Ik
Some amazing steel guitar. You're authentic cody
This song is a perfect Military Tribute Song! Cody can you make a military video to this song?
William Griffin don’t see how
Love this song
Rest easy mason Lowe.
Antuan Mack Cody use to ride bulls with my bestfriends brother who was killed in a bullriding accident back in 2004. CoJo has a song called Bullman that he wrote about him. His name was also Cody. I uploadrd the song on youtube not long ago. You should check it out.
My family is originally from Pierce City Mo. ,and my cousin's still farm part of the family land. One of my cousins' boyfriend is Mason's cousin. He was just one of the regular farm boys and you'd never know that he was one of the top bull riders in the world. So humble, and a great guy.
Rest easy brother.
Don’t get any better than this right here this is pure country music
@countrygirl countrymusiclover you just like going around trying to start shit don't you? No one asked your opinion
406 Bullrider lmao stay angry dumbass
I love this song 🧡
I love this song. It brings back so many memories of when I was riding rough stick years ago. I was never good enough to go pro, but loved rodeoing so damn much. Always chasing that buckle I never got to put on, but wouldn’t change it for nothing. Cody Johnson is the real deal.
I was at your concert in San Angelo you were great
Never stop how you deliver country music Brother!!!!
My husband fought bulls for 18yrs.... July 9th 2017. He broke his neck working a hang up. He had to let it go. He had the honor to fight bulls with some of the greats in the sport today. He misses it everyday. I can see it in his eyes every time he watches it.
I RODE bulls with Lane back in the day started a couple of years before he did..I miss him so much.. MY youngest grandson Carrie's his name on...I'm 55 these days and get around like I'm 155... MY WIFE says to me all the time you miss the Rides and look at the shape your in...I Just laugh and say the Rides didn't hurt as BAD as the dismounts... but SOON as that Grandson and a couple Granddaughters want to go mutton busted WE GONE.. some of my best memories
My wife sees the same thing with me and racing dirtbikes. She hates the fact ill always have a passion for it.
Dear Rodeo
I'd be lying if I try to tell you I don't think about you
After all the miles and the wild nights we've been through

Dear Rodeo
I'd like to say that I took the reigns and rode away

Oh, but you know better, babe
Tween them almost-had-'ems and broken bones
The dream of a buckle I never put on
I'm jaded, woah, I hate it

And I'd do it all again even though we both know

Oh, but that don't change the past
And that don't change the truth
I'm still in love with you
Dear Rodeo
Love this one cody
It’s so sad if you think about it that at some age in your life you will eventually be sitting in the stands instead of on the dirt and one day we will have to give it up😭😭
I know a woman who was going to rodeos running barrels well into her sixties.. when she “retired”, she almost immediately picked up running at little NBHA shows 😂 she eventually gave it up completely due to her husbands health and I believe her own, but I hope life gives me the opportunity to keep doing what I love for that long. ❤️
As a barrel racer I hope I’m doing it till the day I die
I love this song & love cojo!
Song hits me every time from being a cute boy to roping my first in a practice pen to almost going to rope in a arena
This is definitely my new favorite Cody Johnson song
Yeah I'm love him
I’m a barrel racer and my dream is to run at the NFR and win people have told me I will never make it but I’m not gonna stop till I make it❤️
Girl sameeee!
Hope you achive that. Good luck. Yeehaw
I ride bulls iv been douted my whole life Now that my big brother is gone and mason Lowe I wrap my wrist aces name my big brother on the top and masons on the bottom looked down who I was riding for and slid up on my bull and chocked back my tears and nodded my head and just rode
Best of luck to you in your future dreams
I'm starting high school rodeo and this song talks about all the consequences that I'll have for doing it. The broken bones.
Kira Dhaliwal just make sure you take care of your body (and your spirit) throughout it. It’s much more than broken bones. I competed in rodeo for years, never broke a bone but at 24 years old my 86 year old grandpa gets around better than I do most days lol. I have bone on bone grinding in at least one if not both of my knees, can’t get a knee replacement cause I’m too young and they don’t last that long. I know it’s just a downhill slide from here, but lord if I had the time/horse/means to do it you can bet I’d be out at one every weekend. ❤️
A lot of talented, young singers and bands out there right now, 2018
He can “sang”
He really can tho!!
Can't wait to see u tear it up in Nashville
Nashville is for suckers.
Nashville is not for suckers. I love her comment.
@Zach Ward he signed with Warner Nashville when he realesed this song.
This became my favorite song in just the first 30 seconds
This guy is going to blow up country music to a different level.. ✌✌✌✌✌🎶🐎🍻

we did it
I'm still team roping but I had to give it up few months ago for a few reasons
Ull always still have the memories bud...the good and bad
This man is bringing real country back guys!!!! Yayyyyyyyy
Not a day that goes by that I don't think about the "what if's" I gave it my best shot and it didn't work out the way I would've hoped "and that's hard to hang your hat on". I feel like this song tells my story. Thank you for putting this song out!
Thank god for Cody Johnson
I agreed for sure
Amén what would we do without Cody
@Kamryn Jackson I honestly have no idea
Bucking bulls is all I know it seems
Ridin bulls n punchin fools

Been waiting for this since I saw you sing it in San Antonio in February, love you @Cody Johnson
love the song keep up the good work and stay yourself.
My dad rode bulls in the PRCA throughout my childhood. Rode until he was 42, when my little sister was born. He’s 61 now and still misses it, yet knows that the sport goes on and doesn’t miss him back. A true cowboy, as is Cody. Great song.
I rode bulls I hurt everyday but shit those were good times
@jordan Daugherty My son works as a city employee, but he rides Bareback Broncs too. He use to ride bulls, but there just were not enough Bareback bronc riders, so he went to that instead. I am so glad he went to rodeo life like his mom. Lol...I use to ride in rodeos, grand entry, barrels, horse shows, and all in-between. It was the best time of my life until my son was born; and then he became my world, just like I am sure your dad feels the same about you and his family.
