Cockney Rebel - Death Trip Lyrics

So now we're on a death trip, listen to the blood drip
Oozing from a curled lip, ever thought of dying slowly
Ever thought of dying totally unholy

Someone's trying to fool us, maybe it's your daughters
Can you hear the walrus offering a sad solution?
He's calling out for teenage revolution
And can you think of one good reason to remain? To remain? To remain? To remain?

To you aficionados, fooling with bravado
Keep me on my guard-o cause a consciousness explosion
It's getting difficult to keep my mind in motion

Images of sunshine, please to make the words rhyme
Let me die in eight-time, let me write a tale to no one
Let me write a tale to make you think you're someone
Can you think of one good reason to remain? To remain? To remain? To remain?

We'll grow sweet Ipomoea to make us feel much freer
Then take a pinch of Schemeland and turn it into Dreamland
'Softly Lautrec' - she whispered in awe
'Build me a picture of children at war'

We'll grow sweet Ipomoea to make us feel much freer
Then take a pinch of Schemeland and turn it into Dreamland
'Softly Lautrec' - she whispered in awe
'Build me a picture of children at war'

We'll grow sweet Ipomoea to make us feel much freer
Then take a pinch of Schemeland and turn it into Dreamland
'Softly Lautrec' - she whispered in awe
'Build me a picture of children at war'
'Softly Lautrec' - she whispered in awe
'Build me a picture of children at war'
'Softly Lautrec' - she whispered in awe
'Build me a picture of children at war'

So now we're on a death trip, listen to the blood drip
Oozing from a curled lip, ever thought of dying slowly
Ever thought of dying totally unholy
And can you think of one good reason to remain? To remain? To remain? To remain?

  46. b.... ....

Genius ... a mixture of pop, opera, rock & classical.

    Steve Harley, the master !!!

    b.... ....

Don't give him all the credit, the band are just as important. which is why they got worse after they became 'Steve Harley & Cockley Rebel', he stopped valuing their input. Pulled an Axl Rose on 'em. at least the drummer found a decent job afterwards, haha

    b.... ....

as fresh today as the day it was released
    .... genius

  47. M.... S....

Epic is a word used too loosely these days but it is entirely appropriate when describing this track. Epic from the opening chords right up to the final blast of trumpets.

    M.... S....

I'm so fuckin tired of people using "Epic"to mean "Great",epic means long dickheads.

  48. F.... T....

terrific album, fascinating lyrics. This my favourite track, although Sebastian comes a close second.

  49. .... ....

    hymne ... !

  50. R.... B....

In these days i listen to hard rock and metal. Untill this song. Amazing!!! So f... beautiful

  51. s.... s....

Steve Harley was and still is an underrated artist .But one things for sure he left a legacy of songs and music that will one day long after we've all past on make him one of the masters. A Rubins or Van Gough of music.

    s.... s....

Cockney Rebel were an underrated band. not sure about Steve

    s.... s....

    Idiot...the whole concept was his

    s.... s....

    No. Idiot.
The whole concept? Did he write the drums? The violins? No.
Idiot... I said the band was underrated - people knew about Steve after his ego decided that the band name needed his name in front of it, so maybe (like I said) the band was more underrated than he. Just maybe?

Jean-Paul Crocker left because of Harley's ego after what...1 album? Stuart Elliott went on to work with Kate Bush, and he didn't stamp his name across the entire project after her 2 albums, did he?

Goddamn your brain is as fried as the unlucky Kitten in your name. "whole concept"? christ.
Thanks for ruining the opening of the song for me - I was deafened by your stupidity while writing this response. Fortunately THE ENTIRE BAND wrote a song that is immediately replay-able. Fuuuuuuckin'ell

    s.... s....

and now we relax a little bit, and acknowledge the fact, that, especially death trip, was a song, which harley was busking on the street, before the first cockney rebel was formed. of course, the music, each instrument developed this and others songs, but first you need an idea, a feeling, and of course a presenter. and then came producers with ideas for a classical interpretation, which you can hear in the backround. its all beautiful. and as i understood, a few bandmember left the band, because they wanted their own songs, but harley already wrote the whole concept of the comming album and even signed it that way. but what do i know

  53. m.... ....

Ok, I was digging through my record albums today, looking for favorites that I haven't heard in a long time, and the Album, "The Human Menagerie" was one of those albums. Actually, a friend of mine turned me on to this group when I lived in New York City back in the 70's, and after hearing the album only one time, I was hooked on the group! I have 3 of their albums, plus a Solo Album that Steve Harley released, as well. I think all of Cockney Rebel's music is Brilliant!!

  54. s.... l....

    Absolutely beautiful

  55. P.... S....

An epic way to end an awesome album

  56. S.... K....

Ah we were the lucky ones who knew about this genius in the 70's and have all this time to listen to this brilliant music. Steve Harley and his music are rare and do not come around often. Glad my ears have heard this brilliant stuff.

    S.... K....

Good for you! I was born later, early 70s. Just discovered the group several weeks ago and I am already fan. That period was prolific for music. And the lyrics are brilliant and I mean other songs.

  57. J.... A....

    beautiful arangement

  58. B.... R....

I remember the first time I heard this. It blew me away and I bought the album. It is clearly the creation of a musical genius.

  59. k.... ....

Why are you taking money for adverts just for sharing this?

  60. B.... C....

    The Guv,nor

  61. p.... c....

    Either way, fantastic stuff.

    M.... ....

    Classic

  63. h.... ....

    Beautiful...

  64. A.... F....

This is real life story from Steve's teenage years. To write about a friend dying in a tragic way is masterful.  Dylan quite rightly gets great credit for the poetry in his lyrics.  Steve Harley is equally as good and does not get recognised for his outstanding contribution to the music industry.

    A.... F....

Very hard to say that anyone compares to dylan....but steve harley is incredible too... I love My Only Vice

  65. 3.... ....

thanx for posting... is it remastered?  the mix is very good.

  66. R.... P....

Cockney Rebel was introduced to me by best friend's 1988 across the street neighbour, who came from the  Cockney part of England.  He rebuilt engines for a living.  We quite liked him, and he lent us the vinyl version.  This is, by far, their masterwork.

    R.... P....

rick pambrun........yeah go on..so what happened to the mechanic?

    R.... P....

Hahaa! He got lorst, in that mystical Cockney area.

  67. B.... ....

i've only heard this 2, 3 hundred times. spread it around the world best i can; still getting serious chills. nothing like it in the world. could teach an entire college course on this song…..

    B.... ....

    @John Guthkelch sebastian...

  68. j.... d....

    Thanks, Mark. Love it! :0]

  69. m.... T....

Chords & vocal section at 8:45 and on are just for the heart, no words.

  70. J.... W....

    Getting serious chills from this

  71. j.... s....

Please explain that "walrus"reference in the song. What is this all about? l mean, l've heard the Beatles song "l'm the eggman, l'm the walrus..."
and l wonder if there is a mystic innuendo about that walrus thing. Is this a part of the saxon mysticism? Does it mean sth else?

    j.... s....

I can imagine this is because of the beatles, because I once read, that he or they had a beatles poster in the hospital room. Maybe this was a sign of hope? ...Or a sad solution. But a teenage revolution for sure!

  72. j.... ....

must be 40 years since i heard this!!still ahead of it time!x

  73. A.... B....

    Love, love,love it

  74. O.... A....

    O.... A....

Love BR but this is different class

  75. K.... S....

Sairaan Hyvä - can`t describe it - all the versions are above all criticism..I´ve enjoyed Cockney Rebel over 40 years - and the kicks are still there !!!!

  76. F.... S....
