I think he was so underrated as an artist , the man Was a legend and the way he could take any song and make it his own is a skill that most artists don't possess , when he sang I'll get by with a little help from my friend's he nailed it , no one covers Beatles songs because they can't be bettered , Joe Cocker did and nailed it . I just love the organ solo in the middle.

I'm fairly certain that it was Steve Winwood, who played organ on this track + several others from Joe Cocker's first release, "With a Little Help From My Friends". Sure sounds like his work.

R.I.P. Joe Cocker.
This is my all-time favorite cut of his, perhaps because  the loose, funky jazziness of it.
I remembered (of course!) that this had been a single for the Animals 3 or 4 years earlier: 
I had no idea that the tune was originally written for, and recorded by, Nina Simone.

R.I.P. Joe. -  Woodstock no more.

@Lucky Strike Nina Simone's was the original, it was the Animals that did the cover version. Another great cover version is the Flamenco / Disco 70's version by Santa Esmeralda.

Meglio questa di quella del '96, sicuramente. Ma l'originale è di Nina Simone! Uscita nel '64, anche se non è lei che l'ha scritta. Poi celbere la versione più rock degli Animals ('65) e più disco di Santa Esmeralda ('77).

L´originale era degli The Animals, se non sbaglio. Joe fece questa cover nel 1969. Grande canzone, con tastiere molto anni 60. Poi, Joe rifece queste canzone nel 1996, nel disco Organic. La nuova versione dura quasi un minuto meno, ha un ritmo quasi reggae, non é male, peró non regge il confronto con questa, che ha un´aria direi mistica...

Absolutamente certo, Rubens Silva. A canção foi composta para que fosse cantada por ela, Nina. Mas essa versão é muito boa
