Cochran, Eddie - Dark Lonely Street Lyrics

Mmm... this dark lonely street
Here am I, I walk alone, I have no love of my own
Now each shadow I pass is my looking glass
On this dark lonely street

I'm in love with the dream, of a girl I've never seen
Out of reach, out of sight, will I find her tonight
On this dark lonely street
Is my love just pretend, will this dream never end

Maybe this cigarette, will help me to forget
This dark lonely street
Mmm... this dark lonely street

sorry, the was Elvis. Elvis had everything and could sing everything. Eddie was a great songwriter and guitarist but could not sing a ballad to save his life.

Eddie Cochran was the man who inspired the Beatles and the Stones and the whole British Music Invasion of the USA in the 60's and 70's which changed pop music forever! Along with Gene Vincent, Buddy Holly and the Everly Bros, who also toured England, these four acts lead directly to the rock and pop music of subsequent decades and of today! To dismiss him as an 'also ran' is naive!

    eddie was a cutie pie

this is awful and shows why Eddie never made the top grade in the US. Apart from his 3 classics his back catalogue is very weak. His only album released during his lifetime is one of the worst released by a rock n roller. A great musician and had a great voice but there were many who were better.

    are you for real?

I'd like to see you even TRY to accomplish the things he did and the legacy he set up for future musicians in such a short time.

And what more could you expect from a singer/songwriter who died at just 21? He was only starting his voyage. Cruel words harshly spoken. He played guitar, piano, drums and bass. He experimented with over dubbing and distortion when others were still trying to find out how to tune a guitar. He has his place in history and doesn't deserve to be criticized by somebody who's never done anything.

He's not trying to bash on Cochran, but he definitely is right. This song is horrendous and at best is weak album filler. His records improved significantly in 1958-1959, but his work from 1956-1957 is not very distinct. Anyone who argues in favor of this track must be seeing something i'm not. You can't even hear Cochran in this one, he just mumbles. It's trying to be 'Heartbreak Hotel' WAY to hard. Any airplay this got was solely for novelty purposes. His album was mostly filler and rockaballads, not very reflective of the rockabilly style Eddie is now so renowned for doing. Furthermore, the executives at Liberty gave Eddie very little promotion and he and them made some bad calls on what to release as singles. For instance, 'Mean When I'm Mad', a song with zero hope of being a big hit in 1957, was chosen as the follow up to his debut hit, 'Sittin' in the Balcony'. It unsurprisingly flopped. Liberty tried to remedy the situation by releasing the slightly better but still mediocre 'Drive In Show', which did get some action, but it was too little too late. Also, after 'Summertime Blues', Eddie chose the one song that was nearly identical to the preceding record - 'C'mon Everybody' to be released. It's a good song but people aren't going to buy the same product twice. Never quite understood while 'Teenage Heaven' and 'Somethin' Else' didn't do so well, though, I always thought they sounded great and would have had mass pop appeal.

This is the alternate take version, that I love more than any other. His voice is just so dark and depressed. Fucking incredible. One of Kid Cochran's finest.

What a song. I feel that Eddie had two sides to him, like Hank Williams. There's the side that sings Summertime Blues and Twenty Flight Rock, and then there's this side that sings Dark Lonely Street, my Love To Remember and Have I Told You Lately That I Love You, just listen to those songs and you'll see what I mean.
