clipping. - Club Down Lyrics
Turn the lights off, they done shut the club down
Shut the club down, shut the, shut the club down
Turn the lights off, they done shut the club down
Shut the club down, shut the, shut the club down
The thin man staggers lucid for this time of night
Drying vomit dangles from the beard, step, mumble, shuffle, trip
But the trajectory is clear, he's headed for the covered steps
Tut, tut, it looks like rain, he remembers A. A. Milne
Each time the sky is this kind of grey, that or his favorite film, Gene Kelly
Leaping Technicolor through the fray and feeling glorious
The story is an allegory for his days, but night is coming now
Vials snap, aluminum sounds, fibers slap as drops descend on tall cans
It's all hands on deck to chase the pain away
Dealers rockin' parkas with plenty pockets for product
The symphony is tectonic, it shifts as the Earth is settlin'
Precious metals are mined and a million minds have been meddlin' with time
In the hopes of getting a golden noose for the neck
Golden goose from a fairy tale, shittin' Faberge eggs
Here snitches shit bricks, then quick to talk Pig Latin
That black dart too slick for that kid tappin' a window
While lookin' over his shoulder, stop lookin' over your shoulder
You're never caught from behind as long as you keep movin' forward
They long for the sleep like they mortal, be zombies, but they got this portal
In their minds and the molecules get rewired every trip they takin' through time
And they trippin' nightly, the blacks of the eyes igniting
The pits in the backyard biting, the cats in the trashcan fighting
The feeling of guns peeling like bells in a telltale reeling
Of bodies losing they feeling and falling down and the ceiling
Is black from the smoke that's rising, the scent is just so enticing
The scent is a small price for the right to live out your vices, now
Turn the lights off, they done shut the club down
Shut the club down, shut the, shut the club down
And every night after the club it goes down
Plenty, plenty, mo' rounds, bodies, bodies on the ground
On Broadway or Main Street they all stumble out
To a dozen pairs of hands pullin' bottles from they mouths
Hotties hardly walk now, everybody passed out
In the backseat of the taxi, so they never heard a sound
It's the city and the city and you only see one
And it all looked pretty when it all begun
But the shit is got to balance on the barrel of a gun
All the money in the world ain't gonna stop none of
That gangsta shit, that gangsta shit
The whole world lovin' that gangsta shit
Can't change this shit, it's dangerous
But it really ain't nuttin' to a gangsta
Bitch, what you know about that? Don't act like a newbie
New D boys get jacked, what you need is a New Jack Swing
And a new truly discerning taste for the base, like a foodie
Harmony's cruelly high when it's on his step
Stepped on dope is a safety net
And the dope fiends cry but they don't regret
Everyone get high, go out 'til they
Turn the lights off, they done shut the club down
Shut the club down, shut the, shut the club down
Why you fightin' all the shit that make the world go 'round?
World go 'round, world, world go 'round
Turn the lights off, they done shut the club down
Shut the club down, shut the, shut the club down
Turn the lights off, they done shut the club down
Shut the club down, shut the, shut the club down
It's the city and the city and you only see one
And it all looked pretty when it all begun
But the shit is got to balance on the barrel of a gun
All the money in the world ain't gonna stop none of
That gangsta shit, that gangsta shit
The whole world lovin' that gangsta shit
Can't change this shit, it's dangerous
But it really ain't nuttin' to a gangsta
Got the twenties and the fifities wrapped up under all the ones
Two for twenty, five for fifty, you could move a couple tons
You could put it in the blood or you could put it in the lungs
But, whatever you cough up, remember that it all begun with
That gangsta shit, that gangsta shit
The whole world lovin' that gangsta shit
Can't change this shit, it's dangerous
But it really ain't nuttin' to a gangsta

Never heard music that made me actually scared before.
Who the heck disliked this?! Ima kill them. This song is GREAT
'Why you fighting all the shit that make the world go round?' I feel that
Feels like kendrick Lamaar meets Death Grips sampling Slipknots dying pig from surfacing
femur breaker
scary = kripi
DID HE SAY D-BOIS?
This is one of the best songs I've ever heard
Is that a China Mieville reference?
Yes, yes it is indeed
That person in the background could you stop scream so loud jeez rude
[Intro: Daveed Diggs]
Turn the lights off, they done shut the club down
Shut the club down, shut the, shut the club down

The schoolyard reeks of sewage, broken pipes, broken promise

This is the hardest shit to ever include a Winnie the Pooh reference
I get a Silent Hill vibe if sum of these songs, real industrial horror type shit
Brooding, unsettling.....fucking heavy. This shit kicks ass.
Daveed is a fucking genius
wait a minute i heard that track years ago and could't find it anywhere in good quality... Clipping preformed "club down" in Moscow's Dewar pub.
wtf really? is there any footage?
@Pekrosha only sound, and some photos. Just google "Moscow dewar powerhouse clipping 2014" https://nightparty.ru/fotootchet/dewar_s_livetrue_clipping_usa_2014_06_11_pwrhs/
@Глеб Ворсин still couldn't find any audio :<
@Pekrosha i found only recording on russian social media website "Vkontakte" here the link https://vk.com/audios196054413?q=clipping%20moscow or just type in music section "live @ Moscow Dewar's Powerhouse 110614"
@Pekrosha так Вы русский что-ли?
we all know this blows up, lets just hope its before Halloween so everyones blasting in masks
This song is scary in a different way lmao. Makes me feel uncomfortable.
This whole album makes me uncomfortable.
*danny brown laugh*
"noobie" :)
harsh noise + hip hop =
Go check out their album Midcity if you think this is harsh noise + hip hop lmao
@Deedzalegend when I first listened to 'loud' I felt like chainsaw was sawing my brain in half
@dont say the n word same, still say that is one of best decisions in my life, whenever I listen to clipping. have that one little thought upon my mind: "you can shut that down if you feel really uncomfortable"
"It's the city and the city and you only see one"
Love this song
made me think of "the city and the city" by china mieville. from their last concept album it seems like they're into SF so i think it could be a reference?
@hawkthewalk That is ABSOLUTELY a Mieville reference. And Diggs strikes me as exactly the kind of guy to be a fan. China Mieville is a hardcore lefty in addition to a master of weird fiction.
Holy crap these spikes look like they’re moving
I'm getting major Beware by Death Grips on these verses. Just that brutally eloquent verse describing the drug addicts and pushers and snitches, the daily circle of hood life; but lacking all that usual rap swagger. Just portraying the real, dark, terrifying reality instead of some watered down gangsta rap. And that instrumental, jesus christ y'all, the tail end of that beat with the screaming and the metal grinding, and Daveed's sardonic delivery of "The whole world loving that gangsta shit."
pulse pounding yet chilling at the same time.
lmao shut up
@Gabriel Pires you don't gotta be an asshole dude
@Gabriel Pires lol hey guys im cool, i make people feel bad online. am i cool yet?
I see your point but I see way more Danny brown's atrocity exhibition on this. It's too rap to be dg imo
Man, fuck Grips. Real rappers shouldn't get compared to those clowns.
filthiest instrumental since midcity
Fun fact: they wrote this song back around the time after self titled dropped - they didn't put it on Splendor and Misery because they wanted to base an entire album around the theme of this song
@givemewhatsleft thanks god, they did it, and they managed, still this bangs the most out of this album
Verse 1 of this song is one of the best verses Daveed has ever written.
this is the best thing i've ever heard in my entire life
clipping. meets
Dälek
That's the only comparison I could have made. Saw Dalek live years ago. It was so heavy it was hard to breath and moving was almost like trying to walk across the ocean floor in lead shoes as the current hindered, then aided in a very slow progression through a rather dungeon-like basement venue.
The first listen of this song hits unlike anything I've ever felt before
(well, except for Daughters - The Flammable Man, let's be real....)
yes. this song shaved 8 days off of my life the first time i heard it.
YESSSS Or the Last Minute of City Song
Levi Turner bruh Long Road, No Turns hit me like a hammer
@The Fucking Worst GOOOOOOOD, me too. I can't even tell you how many times last year I felt like that. That album (and that song) came at exactly the right time for me.
Tried Death Grips yet?
Holy shit
Best track on my favorite record of the year. Apologies to Aes Rock and Tobacco, this shit is too raw.
this is like if daughters did hip hop
nice pfp bro
@Marcus That's if a mentally disabled homeless man listened to nothing but noise music and read nothing but experimental poetry and decided to make rap.
@LameStudiosInc dont disrespect the boys like that
@dont say the n word Did I say that was a bad thing?
@LameStudiosInc not literally but that's what I got from the comment, Stefan is one of the best lyricists I have found out about, and Zach Hill's drumming skills blow me away.
Favourite track on the album
Same. Jaw on floor shit.
It's a tie for me between Nothing is safe and this banger.
holy shit.
Song of the year right here, some godly shit
Holy shit
heya, I dropped my in-depth album review for this album a bit ago if anyone's interested in checking it out and discussing it. :) cheers, hope you all have a great day/night!
bitch clppng IT'SSSSSSS
